Ghost Ghost TJ Barrel 3 Groove 28" * Shooting started on pg 4 *

Last edited:
Ok barrel has arrived!!!!

Barrel was packaged REALLY well and there was no way that anything was going to be damaged. Now when talking with Troy he did say that he would rather fit the barrel to the rifle with the rifle in his shop. But being as I was still wanting to shoot the rifle I opted to skip that portion. So that lead to a little fitting needed to be done on my side. Easy enough with the tools that I have and made quick work of getting a nice snug fit into the rifle.

The machine work is very clean and very well done. I tested a few rounds through the barrel, shooting my Corbin .218 34 grain slugs, and they fed butter smooth. The magazine fits great into the mag loading area, and seats on the barrel "nub" very well. There are no burs or anything on the barrel. Shooting seemed very good and will be able to get more testing soon.

I will need to get a longer carbon tube for my tensioner, but other than that things are looking good!\

Does anyone know of a place to get some carbon tube for the tensioner? I have some on order but it will be close to a month before it gets here, and of course I want to get shooting.

Yeah I bought some from Amazon.....but the estimated delivery date is not for a few weeks.

I do have a chunk of carbon that is a little tight for the barrel. So I may take the tube to work and see if I can't just use a drill to open up the ID.

@CTAirgunner just got some carbon for his JTS build so I'm throwing his name in here....he may know. Looks good so far, here's hoping it likes slugs!

You have to be careful buying some of this kind of stuff and check delivery dates before buying. Ive checked 1 vender and said a couple wks and checked another and it was only a couple days. Sometimes with a different price but if you want it fast?

I am hoping as well.

Talking with Troy about the slug weight he was saying around 30 gr at 940 fps. So will try a few weights as well as shapes. Would really like to have the boat tail slugs work in the barrel....that is my ultimate goal
Nice! I'm hoping to shoot 25 to 33gr from my Ghost. Slug barrels next on my list but I have to cool my heels for a bit😆 (compressor and new gauges for the 👻 and tons of ammo for the TX) With a 711mm barrel she should send a 30gr slug 940 no problem.

Some shooting has been done.....

Have a note book of numbers, but I feel they are all moot. Being as I didn't realize there wasn't a barrel oring inside. So the velocity numbers are all going to change as will any accuracy.

Struggling now to get this little bugger into the barrel.

They are a bugger! Got a barrel without the rearmost o ring- threw it in the gun first shot was like getting slapped right in the lip!

Exactly what was happening, but didn't realize what was going on until I got home. Have been struggling for about an hour trying to get this darn thing in. The deeper cut is a pain!
I use 2 dental pics 1 holds it in the groove the other works straight across to get that side in then move 90* and that side usually pops right in then the same for the other side. At least thats how i do it and yea it still takes a bit!!!

You mean no breech o-ring? Or the frame block to barrel o-ring? Can't believe you wouldn't notice a breech o-ring missing?!😵‍💫 I nicked the crap outta my S510 o-ring pulling double patches through and it's down about 40fps....replacing it makes the Ghost o-ring look like a cinch. I pull the 👻 breech o-ring out now before cleaning.
Also....I just stumbled on an AGN thread from a guy with a factory .22 slug barrel.....first one ever documented on a forum (believe me I've looked) Confirmed my fears....shot like junk and the guy tried tons of different slugs 😟 ...Ima gonna wait definitely now before spending $800cdn on a barrel that can't shoot slugs. Hope you get yours shooting well!!

Yeah I didn't even look to be honest. Just figured it would be in the barrel.

Stepped away for a bit and am getting back to the barrel now. I did see some promise with the 30 grain boat tail slugs, even with the missing breech ring.

Went and checked the size of the oring..009...grabbed a new one from my parts box and actually got it in! Then went to test with the probe.....and the probe won't go through!! GAHHH

I CANNOT STAND BREECH ORINGS! They are almost a deal breaker for me, I see them as that kind of stupid. When I re-barreled my P-15 I actually moved the oring to the probe, best thing I did! I am surprised that your barrel came w/o one, or mention that you needed to put one in. It is impressive that you managed to shoot anything at all without one though.

My understanding is that manufacturers use O rings in the barrel as the most practical way to achieve breech sealing. Agreed, I prefer to have an O ring on the bolt probe, but I believe this can cause issues with "dragging" while cycling the bolt through the magazine.

If the magazine has fairly tight tolerances (a good thing), then an O ring on the bolt probe has to pass through it, while still sealing in the barrel - which is, of course, just about the same diameter.

Hopefully @BenjeneerJohn will be able to contribute and provide a professional opinion on what I have just said :D

Thanmer is sending me some rings. The groove is a little different than the stock. So after I got the ring installed.....the probe wouldn't go through. That would also account for why I struggled for 2 hours to get the ring installed.

Thammer is helping and I have no problem doing these small things and such. Will also be sending him one of my spare rapid barrels so he can make barrels for them as well.

I will be interested in @BenjeneerJohn has to say on this.
If I was designinging it my gut extinct would be to land a taper fit on the probe collar to a mated tapper in the barrel with a slight cam over on the probassmbly to hold it
but I am sure I am not thinking everthing thing through as well I have a habit of over engineering thing with out considering the cost of manufacturing I ted to hear thats great but thats going to cost a LOT LOL
