Howdy all...

I am considering a BRK Ghost HP .22 since they are discounted currently in my country.

I was previously considering an FX Leopard Composite .22 700mm sniper but the Ghost has always been on my radar.

A few questions...

-will the Ghost HP with the 28" .22 barrel shoot medium to heavy slugs well [ compared to the Leopard] ?

-does the 28" HP version only come in a slug version or is there a pellet version as well?

-any other considerations like noise levels, reliability etc..?

thanks!

I don’t know the leopard never had 1 but i know my drs tactical in 700 and it will shoot slugs better than my ghost with the 28” 22 barrel.
The ghost has a 23” pellet barrel also.

so I see the Ghost has 2 barrel options in 28” , one for pellets and one for slugs.

the 2b being the slug version ( and the same as offered on the one sold here)

The Ghost is just built better, it has less orings which = less leaks. You will need the 28” 2b to shoot heavy slugs and the FX will need the heavy liner to do the same. The FX liners are cheaper than the Ghost barrels.

The only Ghost i've seen come equipped with the 28inch pellet barrel was the world record edition? You would have to specify that you want that barrel i would imagine to the dealer.
If shooting pellets i see no reason to want the 28" over the 24" minus the lower reg pressure.

Ordered my slug barrel in spring and I still don't have it, Brk is slooowwww to build/stock their barrels. I have high hopes for it with slugs but have heard both good and bad results.

On simplicity to service or tune the Ghost wins, which is why i went Brk...
Accuracy with pellets is a toss from what ive seen, and if chasing slugs i'd give the nod to the FX for sure with more barrel options.

The ghost will more than likely benefit from a trigger tune, takes an hour or 2 & mine is absolutely perfect now. ( @Billm still needs to do his trigger🤭)
Power wise they are both capable, and both can be had with a bottle or cylinder.
What will you use the gun for mostly?

I can shoot slugs sub-MOA with both the pellet liner and the slug liner with the FX. I’ve posted the results on HAM Ad Nauseum. My Sonoran is very accurate with pellets and has very good slug accuracy, but doesn’t have the power to launch all weights. I can’t shoot slugs very well at all with my Ghost HP without spending $600 on a rarely available Sub-MOA barrel. The BRK slug barrel has very mixed reviews. Out of the box the Ghost is a fantastic, well built superbly accurate pellet rifle. I’m not anti BRK or pro FX, I’m just relaying what my actual experience is. Keep in my mind though, none of mine are .22.

Neither the Sonoran nor the Ghost can be safely adjusted down to 1.5-3oz which is what a match grade trigger generally is set at, my Sonoran becomes dangerous below 11ozs due to slam fires. Slam fire is a misnomer: you just have to move the side lever forward and it fires. The Ghost requires a spring to reduce the weight, Both are great field triggers. Neither of the BRKs are really designed as bench guns, that’s where Daystate comes in. The trigger on the FX M4 and Dynamic Block MKII is just a really smooth trigger that can be adjusted down to under an ounce. My Panthera trigger has never had an unintentional discharge when my finger wasn’t on the trigger. I can’t say that about my BRK Sonoran and so it sits at about 13ozs. Build quality, none of them are without issues. The trigger shoe on my Sonoran fell off. When I looked at it, the threads were stripped out. AOA told me that I needed to tighten it with the right Allen wrench or something like that. Problem is, I’ve never adjusted the shoe. I’m not bashful about disclosing my screw ups lol. The FX Dynamic MkII block is super easy to tune. The regulator can be adjusted up or down without degassing, the regulator adjustment, macro and micro hammer tuning with vernier scales are all within a few inched if the easily visible gauges. You can actually tune it from your shooting position, while only using your left hand to make adjustments. I don’t have another airgun where I can even see my gauges and adjustments without moving from my shooting position.
Again, I love my ghost, but the FX does some things better. One is shooting slugs.

What grain can the standard liner shoot, my Maverick didn’t like anything heavier than 25. It still shot MRD better, when it was not leaking!

I see the Leopard comes with a heavy liner so the OP should be good to go.

I’m shooting .30 but @Solo1 has done real well with slugs using the .22 DRS MKII.
This was with the 1:40 pellet liner. I can’t speak for the Leopard. I’m just stating the newest generation FX rifles with over barrel plenums or air sources are doing well and shouldn’t be discount due to the history of previous designs.
