Thats what I thought, lol...Maybe these are a newer design or Aoa salesperson mentioned the wrong twist by accident?

I will check the twist when it gets here for sure... because if it is the same as the barrel I have now it will be sent back.

The guy I was talking to was looking around for the answer and it was actually Lauren that said that it was 1:16.6. But like I mentioned, I will check once I get the barrel.

What was the twist on your custom TJ barrel for the ghost?

Just measured... and the TJ is a 1:17 barrel...... not sure why the darn thing didn't shoot the slugs very well. Wonder if it has something to do with the 3 groove or the design of the mandril?

The black magic of airgun barrels. I have a couple that I can’t explain why they don’t shoot better than they do.

I know there was talks on some threads that I found before I bought the barrel. And it was about 50/50 with the barrel working. Thammer wasn't a bad guy to buy the barrel from, I just don't think the barrel shoots like I want. I did shoot pellets out of it and it does do that VERY well. But I didn't want a pellet barrel, so on to the next barrel.

I have only been testing the .177 slug barrels

If you are talking about Mr Brew, he did not do much and was eventually removed from ART .22 was tested by a few guys from Lebanon

@Danman just seen your tag , unfortunately I have stepped down from the daystate asp team so unsure where they are with all the barrels , I have since been in contact with another manufacturer and have been working with them on a few exciting projects so will keep you all updated , testing wise on the slug barrels last I knew 177 and 25 was ok , 30 was in final testing stages and 22 not seen much if any content

Hey, thanks for the update, you've been quiet....we miss your posts, and your beautiful FT rigs! Yeah the .22/.25 Brk slug barrel coverage is minimal/non existent for sure!
While we are at it @Lee unsworth ....do you by chance know the Ghosts plenum size?

I believe it’s 32cc , I think the ghost would benefit highly from a bigger plenum as to me that seems very small compared to other hp rifles , this would probably help with many aspects including accuracy and air delivery, I think that’s why the 177 shoots well as 32cc for a 177 is probably about the perfect balance, that’s just my thoughts don’t worry I will be posting my new rifles this evening in the relevant section , I will tag you

Wouldn’t hold my breath on the barrels. Seems to me anything for daystate takes an eon to come in from over seas anymore. The delta alpha wolf chrono barrels aren’t even listed as an option to buy at A of A plus all their accessories are so ridiculously priced. I get frustrated. The support with daystate seems time consuming and a struggle. FX has amazing support but I have had a lot of issues with reliability. Seems a can’t win situation. Lol

So here’s my standard answer to the question: “What’s the twist rate of a Daystate barrel?”

Firstly, it’s unlikely that any twist rate you can put in will affect the prediction on the program for fall of shot on an air rifle that only shoots out to 100 Yards.

With firearms shooting up to 1,000 Yards spindrift, even the “Coriolis effect” has to be factored-in.

As far as I know, all ballistics programs are written primarily for firearms and bullets rather than airguns firing pellets. So they usually insist on a twist rate value being entered.

The figure that we advise is 1:18 right hand twist. But with Strelock, if you try 1:18 and then change to 1:30 twist rate, you will notice no difference to the program’s prediction within normal airgun ranges: that is out to 100 Yards.

So – in my opinion – the twist rate for airgun barrels is much less significant an issue than many other aspects of the gun and – even more so – the ability of the shooter

Very true and also you will find g1 and g2 is fairly useless on ballistics and some app and Airgun ballistic programs now use GA that coupled with the correct twist rate can indeed be very accurate for calculations thanks for sharing solo1

Do you really believe what he says is true? Is it just a crap shoot to get slugs to preform? I do know its wierd i have a 30 barrel that zan will sometimes group well at 100 but nsa consistently hit a couple inches right at 100 but on at 50

I believe you are correct when talking about ballistic apps not seeing differences. In real life it for sure is baffling. Using the Ghost 22 I have taken 1:16 and 1:24 twist barrels and shot many pellets at lots of different speeds. Results show me that the 22gr AEA pellet at 1030fps out of the 1:16 twist barrel works the best over the MRD 25gr pellet out of the 1:24 twist barrel 940fps tail wind, 960fps head wind (best settings for the 25gr).

Why is it the lighter pellet has great accuracy with more spin stabilization? I will start another thread with this question.

To be honest I’m reserved on the slug shooting , I think so many shooters expect one hole groups at 100-200 but I really don’t know what the bench mark for accuracy should be on an air gun , I would personally say 1/2 moa groups at 100 would be a fantastic rifle but is it consistently achievable, I am very interested to hear other people’s thoughts on the whole slug concept and what would be the good-bad-amazing benchmarks
