Well I was finally able to get my grubby little hands on a 28" ( 700mm ) slug barrel from BRK!

For those that haven't seen the other thread...... I have a Ghost HP that started life as a 30 cal, that has now been converted to a 22 caliber. I have a stock barrel, a custom 3 grove TJ barrel, and now the BRK slug barrel. The barrel I just got is a complete system, so the shroud unit as well as a different probe. To me the probes look very similar aside from the flat head bolt in the back of the slug probe. Not sure what that is for, but I will do some looking to see what the purpose of this is for. Being as you attach the probe to the carrier with a side bolt there is no adjustable feature on the probe, so not sure what it is there for.

I already have a bunch of different slugs and things to test through the barrel. A variety of NSA, Javelin V1 and V2, some Zan, as well as the slugs I have been making with the Corbin set up. I am hoping to find a medium weight slug that will shoot around the 930-980 fps range that will be accurate enough for hunting. With the spring kit I have for the rifle I should be able to tune the rifle quite nicely for both power and consistency.

For testing.... I do plan on adjusting the regulator to the max level and shooting tethered to be able to find the regulator setting I need. The external regulator has the ability to move up and down without the need to degas the system. This will waste less air as well as making things go quicker. I can run the cleaning rod through the barrel to verify the twist rate as well.

If there is anything you guys want me to look at or try.... please let me know! More than willing to try things out that are going to help others in their search.

A you shouldn’t go down on reg without degassing!! And you should only need go to 150 bar as that is max for that reg to the best of my knowledge. At 140 bar yellow spring i was pushing 40 gr air marksman to 900fps. They shot well there. Anything above 150 was diminishing returns

This is really a good idea, I don't know why I never did this, I have an external Huma regulator that I just about never use but it is definately time to revisit this.

Yeah you can degas on the external regulator, but you are correct with the internal regulator on the rifle.

I have been doing this with my Hm1000x as well. Makes things SO MUCH SIMPLIER when trying to run through different pressures. Having the external regulator makes things really easy. Just max out the rifles regulator, and then set the external to a lower pressure. Then you are only using the pressure from the external regulator and you are good to go!

I will take a few pictures of all of that as well. More pictures = more better :D

What exactly did you receive? Manufacturer, type of rifling and land/groove count, twist rate, choked.
I should have some time tomorrow to check all of those for you!

I specifically got the BRK 28" Slug barrel in 22 caliber 2B
The kit came with a new probe, barrel, and shroud assembly.

The probe I checked with AOA, and it is the same probe for the Delta wolf. So the screw on the end is not needed for the Ghost, but wont hurt anything to just stay in there. From my understanding the barrel is not choked.

Thanks. .
Im pretty sure the bolt in the probe mates up with a magnet internally in the DW to keep the action open. Of course being electronic, there's no hammer spring tension.

Sweeeeeet! Your breaking ground here man😅

First request....check the twist/choke! I am 99.99% sure it will be the standard 1:17.7 with a slight or no choke, but.....we gotta know these things!😅

Secondly....yeah lol, plz run the gamit of slugs through it!🙏 From .216 to .218. From 17.5gr (NSA) to 40gr heavies.
Your external regulator idea is pretty good, never woulda thought of that on a regulated gun🤪 That plus all the springs and there is a serious amount of things to test....You'll be busy!👌

Dan didn’t i give you enough info on this barrel?

I was hoping you would try the lighter slugs out and share results too, i know you tried the heavies with good results. You are definitely the first i've heard with good results with a (non .177) slug 👻 barrel, but....Im a greedy sponge...I want more info lol.
Hoping to get the spring kit and slug
barrel this spring myself🤞
Anything else i can glean before then is welcomed and can sway me....
Look at it this way.: Soren Drost has made me (us?) drool with his killer.177 👻 slug groups, esp at long range. But that could always be an outlier barrel, then you got one and confirmed it....the .177 slug barrels are excellent!
Im just waiting for confirmation #2 on the .22 .... Zero shots fired.

PICTURES!!!!!!!

25 YARDS, 50 YARDS, and 100 YARDS.

I tried slugs from 22 grain up to 40 grains. The zan 25.4 grain slugs shot well, as did the 30 and 34 grain Corbin slugs. Tried the 35.5 grain ACE slugs and they were good, though need to up the speed. Will install stronger spring and shot them again as they were maxing out around 905-910 fps. The zans got them up around 1040 fps!

So whats your initial impression?

Initial impressions are good, better than the tj for sure. I am able to shoot one slug, change for another slug....then go back to the original and the ammo groups what it did before. So much more consistent in that regards.

I can remove the shroud and install the tensioner and that should help, as well as the heavier spring.

Right now all things look good and I'm happy

Oh wow, that was fast.....sweet range!
Lol, seems the 25gr jsbs didn't do too hot?
We're the Hybrids ok beyond 25Y?
On more question😆...Do you know what spring is in your ghost currently?
Definitely looks promising with some of them groups👌

Didn't shoot any pellets...I could next time I suppose.

The hybrids I honestly didn't shoot pat 25 yards.....not sure why honestly, but I will do that next session.

Spring is the standard 22 caliber version

Know what Dan....just come one down and let's shoot! 😆 🤣

I have the spring kit in the gun currently. Planning on swapping when I get a minute. Depending on my son's sports. I am planning on hitting the range after work next week some time.

OK im heading over😂. I haven't been to the U.S. since passports were required 2 cross the border...so its been a while😆
Yeah I meant the Jsb KO slugs, which are also 25gr. I always hope they work in a slug gun as they are cheap and plentiful.....although they don't expand NEAR as well as .22 Hybrids, Patriots, or Zans. The hybrids are neat bc they are long for the weight vs other 21-23grainers. Sure they may fall apart at 100Y+ but for zapping pests inside 75Y they could be mint. Don't need a crazy powerful tune either to send em.👍

I did try some actually...the version 1 and the mk2. I have chronograph numbers in my book, I just need to get them on here. Was planning on ice fishing today...but it is really windy and well below zero. So not sure. Feels like -30° with 30mph winds and gusts higher than that!
