Ya this is most likely cost prohibitive. O rings in barrel are most likely cheapest and easiest way to go

The tolerances of everything can be greater with a breech oring but even cheaper airguns like the Gauntlet have used a shallow double oring configuration to go through magazines without snagging. I love my Gen 1 Gauntlet, and how it's orings worked, so when I re-barreled the P-15, that was what I looked to. If they could do this on the first regulated ppp under$300, and on my AAA(only one oring) that cost 10x as much, they can do it on everything.My understanding is that manufacturers use O rings in the barrel as the most practical way to achieve breech sealing. Agreed, I prefer to have an O ring on the bolt probe, but I believe this can cause issues with "dragging" while cycling the bolt through the magazine.
If the magazine has fairly tight tolerances (a good thing), then an O ring on the bolt probe has to pass through it, while still sealing in the barrel - which is, of course, just about the same diameter.
Hopefully @BenjeneerJohn will be able to contribute and provide a professional opinion on what I have just said

Look at the theoben line of rifles....no. reach oring there. And those are older guns. It all comes down to what you want to pay for the rifle. It is do able, but on a mass produced rifle the breech o ring is a simple and easy fix
I have not tried this, I use the 2 dental pick way. it was recommended by a member of the local gun club. secure the ghost in a vertical position barrel down. lube up an 18.13 pellet pass it through the seal, place then in the breach well lubed, with tweezers place a brass or wood rod 8.5mm x 7/16" behind them, now use the probe like a drill press slowly pushing it in, not to far you need to grab the rod to pull back out. Run a couple patches through after you fire the pellet out. sounds like it might work!!!
It certainly looks like a great idea! I'd have to try it before screaming Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! I will remember this though.

Check out McMaster Carr for orings, carbon fiber tubes and tons of other things. They have fast delivery.
Somet you can put a pellet into the barrel and push it just past the oring groove. This can give you a backer to help out the oring in. A cleaning rod works best though.
As for where to put the oring, Stephen covered the debate points. I don't really have a strong preference. My model shop and production parts makers would rather put the oring on the bolt.
Breech orings tend to eject if the trigger is pulled and the bolt not closed.
The oring having to go through the mag didn't bother me. The Semi-auto Mrod breech seal can take thousands of rounds without an issue. So I don't think loading is going to cause to many issues.

Ok the orings showed up, Thanks Thammer! The rings are smaller than the standard ring, and once installed they are working like a charm. The probe goes in smooth, and the few slugs that I put through the rifle and there was no disgusting air burst past the probe.
Will be hitting the range once the winds die down below at least 20 mph! Today they are gusting over 50mph! Riding my motorcycle home was a bit of a wild ride.

Well the wind is down today and planning on hitting the range this weekend........though we are getting soaked in rain! I don't think I will ever catch a break with this garbage weather. Though if I do get a clear spot I may hit the range and see what happens.

It pains me as I really want to get this shooting, before hitting the fields for bunnies and such. And it will give me time to swage some slugs as well. Up here if it isn't rain it is snow....so I should be grateful it isn't that cold

You and me both! It shouldn't be that hard to make (and test!!) a decent slug barrel you'd think. The factory slug barrels so far seem hit or miss....I'm not really into that

Nothing yet. Winds are still high and we are struggling with scattered showers. That and the fact it is my 18th anniversary....my wife might not like it if I left to go shooting. Lol
On call this coming week, but will try and hit the indoor range if I can after work one day. Tomorrow is calling for 80% rain...so may grab rifle and hit range after work

I completely understand that one, we just had our 18th two weeks ago and my wife was like "we haven't done anything for our anniversary the last few years and this is 18 years, let's go to the Grand Canyon" So we rented an RV and took a ~1,900 mile road trip for a week. It was a blast.

We are planning on going somewhere once school is over. Will be a few days but something we need, and it should be fun with the kids.
