Ghost Ghost HP Regulator Creep

Hi guys!

I've encountered an unusual phenomenon over the past month. About 4 weeks ago I increased my .22 Ghost HP regulator from about 137 BAR (where I have had it over the past 6 months) to 150 BAR. About 2 weeks ago I noticed it had decreased to 145 BAR (and I left it there). And today I realized it is now at 140 BAR. My bottle is at 250 BAR, and all of this has occurred during shooting sessions of 100 to 200 pellets each day with multiple bottle fills back up to 250 BAR. So, it is slowly creeping down. And not while sitting in its case not being shot. I have been shooting it fairly regularly during the past month.

What's going on?

Thanks!

If anything, warmer temperatures could possibly increase the pressure compared to where it was originally set at. Just spit balling and trying to cover any external angle. I thought I read somewhere that the Delta Wolf had a similar issue. They share the same reg. And that’s not much help to you either.

It doesn't sound like reg creep. It also doesn't sound like the other reg issue people have experienced with the Wolf/Ghost platform where the regulator will swing 5-10bar over the course of a 250 down to 150 bar shoot session.

To me this sounds more like the reg settling in. While not the best explanation or solution, I would reset the reg back up to you 150 bar and see if the setting is more stable now.

I would definitely dial it up a touch and bring it back to your preset pressure, and watch it again, as you shoot. It does bother me they don't send any of those white reg disc's and the o-rings with a new ghost. All in all its cheap to fix, just the hassle of it all. 😔 I feel Franklink hopefully could shed some light on the problem?! Ultimately I wouldn't trust them gauges 100%. Chronograph doesn't lie, check speeds now vs before!

Couple thoughts (many already noted in previous comments)...

New guns "settle in" or rather they break in as parts mesh and seals and springs settle. Could be that.

The OEM gauges are functional, but they're not great. Could even be some gauge break-in, wearing into how theyre gonna read for the long term.

For the majority of my Ghosting, the .20 has had a reg pressure of 128-130bar. Notice I'm reporting a range, as I often have in the ongoing review. If you leave your gun near 250 and let it sit for a couple days, it'll read closer to 130, if you leave it stored with pressure not much higher than reg pressure it'll say 127-128 after sitting for a few days.

And yes, ambient temps and temps of the air inside the bottle (fast fill?) can all slightly change where that manometer needle is pointing.

An interesting thing to watch is the needle on the reg jump down in pressure on a shot, and then climb back up to reg pressure. The speed at which it does that and how high withing your window of "normal" is also dependent on where it's set and how much pressure is in the bottle.

The proof in the pudding for whether or not you have a reg problem is in the chronograph. Shoot some over the Chrono and see what youve got.

I've had no reg problems in my Ghost, and have used it to compete in lots of competitions, at as high of a level as EBR. The needle on the reg gauge moves around a bit, just the nature of compressed air and parts used to contain and measure it. Again, Chrono and see what you've got. Might be as simple as various parts breaking in.

...that bit was confusing and would have put me off if I had read it before...the Ghost is waxing a bit FX for me...

...I was getting that slow first shot with the AoA settings...as mentioned a chronograph is revealing...

...I had always muddled along without one before the Garmin XERO C1 Pro...all those years...!!!...

...I have everything set at or towards the middle values now and will just keep shooting this new rifle for a while...

...it started dropping power and I thought something was wrong, but we had apparently run out of air...

I noticed this when i got my 177 hp cause i shot all summer @ 80 bar and after ft season i bumped it up to 130 and it took 3 adjustments for it to stay there. At 80 it stayed all summer sitting sometimes for a week. After it finally settled at 130 it stayed there. I think the reg just needs a day or to to settle in to a new pressure especially if a decent jump higher

All good info, guys (y)

And yes, I've been under a chronograph for the past 4 weeks, and I did notice a 20 fps drop in the maximum velocity I've been testing (997 to 976 fps), as well as all of my velocities falling. I've been testing the MRD for the past month in the 900 to 1000 fps range, but I started to realize I was losing fps. That's what got me looking more closely at that little bitty Huma gauge...lol

I'll take the view that it is just settling in as has been mentioned and see how it goes.

Thanks! :)

Ammo/speed testing for me is very sllooowww as I hand pump but do you have best speed results for the MRDS? Mine shoot remarkable at 975/980fps or there about on P.W 15, reg at 165. Also good as I find it gives me about 50shots on the 480 bottle (if I recall) but I still want to drop reg to 150 and retest.... It maxed out @ 990fps but accuracy went down from gun harmonics I believe, and air consumption was ghastly.

Sounds like you intent to “not like” the Ghost. Same complaining post across two forums? Question “answered” and still griping on the Ghost. That’s “your” issue. Dozens of other users, prodessionals and regular guys are using their Ghosts without fanfare. Trade it in and get an FX Impact…🙏 Apparently out of air?…!

...if I don't like the Ghost what makes you think I would like an FX...?!?... (LoL)

...it would be good if I could shoot more...I am sure it is not "broken in"...

...the rifle was still charged with Arizona air, eh...

...indeed, it took a moment to figger out the problem when it finally ran low...that was supposed to be funny...

...my "intent" is to like the Ghost, but the first cold shot issue is annoying...I guess I had hoped it would be less so...

...the rifle is intriguing enough for me to adapt to this...it's not like it is an FX that will need to be re zeroed constantly...

...the trigger pretty much suks but I am OK with that because it is an easy known fix...the low power 1st shot is less so...

...as noted in post you quoted, I have adjusted the tune to hopefully reduce this phenomenon and will try to get this rifle fired enough to settle...that's challenging here...

...I have bought enough stuff for my Ghost to buy another rifle, so there is that...

...the thing that bothers me the most aboot the Ghost is that it weights exactly what they said it dose... (grin)

i say trade it in for an AAA EVOL. : )
LOL the devil made me do it.

Yeah Hapo bump your reg up and face the fact that the Ghost HP was never built for light ammo....ie 18gr and down. It can be done but again I say...WHY!? Buy a smaller, lighter (cheaper?) gun and shoot the lighter stuff out of that. My Ghost is a long range hammer. Being a bottle gun it does compete well vs the impact in my opinion. 14 sealing o-rings vs how many in an impact....50plus?? Gulp. But i bet a finely tuned FX might wring out a few more shots per fill?

...a 22 shot string started @ 889.9, maxed @ 894.8, and the last shot (#22) was 888.9 fps...

...near as I can see the bottle is at 175 BAR...regulator @ 125 BAR...

...at first, I thought I was seeing that 1st cold shot thing but now I do not know what I am seeing...

...it seems to be settling in around 890 fps...

...but do you have best speed results for the MRDS?

Will definitely post my results when I'm finished. I'm testing the JSB MRD "Shallow" vs. the JTS 25.4 without prejudice to either brand. I'm testing between 900 and 1000 fps. I just formed a new National 50 Benchrest League club with a couple of friends, so consistent accuracy is the only thing that matters to me.

I also just got the Ghost Hammer Spring Kit, so I'm experimenting with the different hammer springs to see if it likes one over another.

Cheers!

Your 22 shot string has an extreme spread of 5.9fps (that is good, much tighter than necessary for just about any type of shooting).

If that includes the first cold shot you most definitely do not have a first/cold shot being slow problem.
