For those of you shooting the 25 cal 1:30 twist barrel, are you also shooting slugs with success, and by success I mean at 100 yds?

Is the 1:30, 5-flute barrel considered too slow for slugs?

Ive done quite a bit of experimenting with slugs and the ghost , not that ive tested every combination but quite a few and slugs out of their pellet barrels is kind of a crap shoot especially how long they will stay accurate. Its funny too that the barrel i find to shoot slugs the best is the 177-28” and its choked! Ive shot some very good 100 yd groups in light wind with them that tells me they are living up to their bc. Often after some polishing my barrels i can shoot pellets almost as well at 100 and many times im not finding the slugs to live up to their bc even out of slug barrels. Best i can say as far as im concerned its a crap shoot to get slugs to preform as well as i expect anyway not to say it can’t be done.
And yes 1-30 is considered too slow. My 30 cal submoa is 1-16 and thats their slug barrel

Don't waste your time with slugs and the 1:30 twist in the .22 or .25 - you wont get consistency - Pellets only. The .177 cal L.W. in the Ghost runs the ol 1:17.7 twist and does very well with slugs usually.
My .22 S510 with a choked 1:17.7 will out do the ghost anyday shooting light slugs.

The 22 ghost slug barrels shoots some slugs well also and my daystate revere likes 17 gr nsa just fine but again to me its a craap shoot finding a good combo. 1 thing i have found it that the less lead the barrel picks up the better and longer the slugs will shoot well. Oh and i have yet to try the 25&30 brk slug barrels which are marked with a sticker now as slug barrels and to the best of my knowledge are not 1-30 twist but i have no idea what twist they are. My 28” 177 had no marking my 28” -22 has a sticker saying slug

Apprecite the feedback. My consensus is that I will stick with pellet only and not play with slugs in this setup. I'm not overly interested in the 177 slug setup and jumping to 30 cal is not in my near future.

Ok so ive finally got some straight answers for the ghost and 28” barrels- 22 cal is the only slug specific brk barrel. The 177 does shoot 13 jsb very well @ 100 and the 22 -28” shoots slugs well too the 25 and 30 cal 28” barrels are for pellets!

So here’s my standard answer to the question: “What’s the twist rate of a Daystate barrel?”

Firstly, it’s unlikely that any twist rate you can put in will affect the prediction on the program for fall of shot on an air rifle that only shoots out to 100 Yards.

With firearms shooting up to 1,000 Yards spindrift, even the “Coriolis effect” has to be factored-in.

As far as I know, all ballistics programs are written primarily for firearms and bullets rather than airguns firing pellets. So they usually insist on a twist rate value being entered.

The figure that we advise is 1:18 right hand twist. But with Strelock, if you try 1:18 and then change to 1:30 twist rate, you will notice no difference to the program’s prediction within normal airgun ranges: that is out to 100 Yards.

So – in my opinion – the twist rate for airgun barrels is much less significant an issue than many other aspects of the gun and – even more so – the ability of the shooter
