Ghost Ghost tuning

Oh Wow, I figured the 1:17.7 twist would love the light-med grain slugs better! What dia does it prefer so far?
Ok I shot some 36gn, 38gn, 40gn Franco slugs, then shot some Griffen slugs in 38gn, these all shot pretty good, then I shot some 38.6 grain AEA slugs, these shot the best, they actually picked up a little speed over the other 2) 38gn slugs, and the AEA where going 933.5 based on a 53 shot group, 170 Bar and max on the power wheel. and shot nice at one hundred yards, I just need to work on my 100-yard shooting ;)
My phone died and i did not get any pictures, but next will get pics! I shot them out to 162 yards and hit the 5 in plate 5 times out of 12 shots, not great but will get that sorted out.
Franco slugs was a close second and I do Like them as well!

hang some surveyor tape off a zip tie on your barrel. If wind moves it the wind will push you @160 even at 100

Well the ghost slug barrel in 22 cal likes the airmarksman 40 gr ace slugs the best so far and at 873 FPS bc 1.4. The 33 gr air marksman come in second with a bc around .1 and 934 fps. It shot 25 gr h&n well but bc no where near .1 closer to .04. It shoots pellets too but not as well as the 23” pellet barrel. Gun was set at 140 bar green spring power wheel 17. Its not really worth pushing for more speed in my opinion as you have to push very hard for minimal gains.

Does it have a preference on diameter? .217/.218/.219

Giving the Ghost another try. Wasn’t thrilled with the stock .177 barrel. Went the the .22 28” barrel and was really disappointed. On to the .30 cal Sub MOA barrel. Wow. So far I’m impressed. 2 pellet width groups at 50 yards with no tuning. Reg at 125 using black hammer spring at 10 on the power wheel. Still have some tuning to do and then move out to 100 when I get a chance

Any word from the Manufacturer about warranty on that 28" (obviously) defective barrel? I'd be livid, they arent cheap!

AOA took it back and refunded me. Awesome customer service as always
Ok that's good to hear! And that is the detail I'm working out with my Dealer as well currently. I have heard the same amount of bad as good stories with the L.W. slug barrels (and 50% ain't great!) for the Ghost and I fully expect if I get one it had better well shoot slugs🙄 I got 3.5" groups with Mrds @100Y, I would want half that with slugs.
I plan to get the Condor Slug gun at the same time and probably put it head to head against the Ghost. I have from 17.5 to 40gr in different diameters & manufacturers to try. If nothing works, back it goes.

Well, I hope you get a good barrel; I have a .22 LW Slug barrel and it is accurate! and a .30 Sub MOA barrel and it is also very accurate!

After all the goings on recently i thought id post this here. I seems to me that brk and daystate are not finishing the inside of their barrels as well as they did when they brought out the art barrels for the red wolf. If you find your having trouble with groups after a while and cleaning helps but isn’t quite doing it polish the barrel with jb bore bright. Start with it on a bore mop and do 20-30 strokes of the barrel push a pellet through and feel for rough or tight spots if the choke still feels very tight hit that area along with any rough spots again then shoot and see how it goes. Use your best judgement after that and shoot a while to season the barrel again. Good luck and goid shooting

Absolutely....and if your shooting fast (above 900fps), I'd recommend lubing it's ammo. Two polishes and the lube (im just using ballistol, gets a tad thick in winter) and my Ghost is rocking. Its first few shots aren't great but once its warm away we go....I plan to get that figured out sometime.

Just to back up my claims about daystate and brk not putting so much art in their barrels anymore i ran my bores ope down my revere 22 barrel that i have never polished and shoot pellets and 17.5 nsa slugs through. Here’s a pic and the whole barrel looked like this none of my ghost barrels was this polished

Since there seems to be a lot of guys here with or getting ghosts i thought id give a couple of my thoughts on tuning. It seems a lot of guns are coming at 165 bar and in my experience that is just wasting air. I have a hp ghost for field target which when i first got it was way over 20 fpe at muzzle. I could only get below at 80 bar and hammer wheel was basically useless the the only way to adjust velocity was very fine (very!) reg adjustment and that was with then the lightest ( 12 fpe) hammerspring. Then i got the spring kit and the lightest spring was lighter still. Now im at 100 bar and pw 11 the wheel has adjustment too.
Now in 22and 25 im mostly shooting with the stock hammer spring but im shooting heavy projectiles too! To shoot very light projectiles a lighter spring and lower reg might be better. For heavy projectiles im at 135 bar
Need to add the 25 i hit a tune right away that was very accurate after polishing the barrel. The 22 i also hit a tune @ 960 fps with mrds that was very accurate but i got a lot of flyers. 22 saw the least tuning

Now with 30 cal it came to me with high reg (165) shooting 50’s at i think it was 950. I couldn’t get below 900 fps or 80 fpe even with the reg turned down and pw on 1 so out came the black spring and in went the red now at 120 bar pw 16 im at 79 fpe 36 shots
Something else ive noticed is from 17 or 18 to max on the power wheel velocity change is very small irregardless of reg Pressure also sd in that area is generally higher than if you go to 17 or less. My sd went from almost 3 to 1.5 with 13 gr jsb slugs at 134 bar 1030 fps to 1016 fps
Im not necessarily the writer that @Franklink is ( frank link has written a good deal about the ghost- good stuff)but these are things I’ve discovered that will hopefully help some of you guys out when tuning your ghosts! Chuck

If anyone else comes up with something different or unusual please add. This is us trying to help us!
Eddited a few things for clarity
Flyers! I've had the same problem with the BRK Ghost. Big Time. Were all those accuracy tests I read and saw on U-tube bogus? Can we trust these tests? I have decided the majority of the accuracy tests on whatever site are just not to be believed. So, how do I pick an air gun? I can't drive to dealers that are located 400 miles away from me, and the local gun shops know little to nothing about air rifles. Who do you trust? Making decisions without good information is the kiss of death. AD2

Lots to unpack here...

No matter how good a gun is, poor quality pellets, or even a bad batch of high quality pellets, will equate to your flyers.

Then there's shooting a particular projectile at an inappropriate speed for that particular projectile.

Then there's dirty barrels that might need cleaned to get accuracy back.

Then there's conditions ...windy makes flyers, regardless of the gun.

Then there's the requirement of a trustable scope and scope mounts and everything being snugged up on both.

Then there's the person pulling the trigger.

I agree with the above wholeheartedly. To me though the wind and dirty barrels are 1&2. A 2 mph breeze which you can create blowing softly into a wind gauge will move a 22 cal 25 gr pellet almost .5” at 50 yds. It doesn’t take much.

I’m pretty sure I’ve experienced the negative effects of all of these, especially the last one.

I agree with the other responses. It does seem daystate has some barrel quality issues which is completely sad given what they cost. I think this can get into people’s heads and make them immediately think they have a bad barrel. I have two of them, a .25 DW and a .30. I have gone back and forth thinking my .25 especially was a little funky. However one time I found the picatiny scope riser rail (it’s a delta converted to an alpha ) was loose and the scope ring base screws had also loosened. Whew I was relieved. Also conditions are a bigger factor with these guns it seems to me. To get a really good read make sure everything is tight and find a dead calm day and shoot then. Both of mine flat out shoot in nice conditions. As good as anything I own so I know the barrels are good. However, I swear I’m crazy or something but I’m convinced that projectiles out of these daystate barrels are more effected by the wind than say my FX soda straws are. Seems crazy but I am becoming convinced. The fx liners get a lot of flack but man they shoot accurately more consistently often. The daystate will do it just seems not quite as often and this is mainly the .25. I know it’s super weird. At least doing it in that manner can help you determine if it is the barrel by eliminating as many other variables as possible. Not saying that it couldn’t be the barrel. It might very well be. Just read all the threads on the black wolf. People are seemingly having to work pretty hard to get many of them to even shoot pellets well. Pretty mind boggling.
