Sonoran BRK Sonoran 30

Pyramid Cup is in 2 weeks and today was the last Local 100 yard competition to shoot before getting "Viper" Yeah I finally named the Sonoran :D ready to travel.

Here is Viper all ready to go. It is the virgin trip for Viper.

Now today we pulled off a first place with a 478 and 5 X's. Brendan M had a 477 and 13 X's  This guy can shoot!!!!! Lauren P. got 3rd and the Boss lady got 4th. There were a few behind her, but hey, Viper and I finally beat those two ladies!!!!! I also had the least expensive set up out there for 75 yard and 100 yard shooters....I was the only one shooting off of a Bi Pod and rear adjustable rest at 100.

Here is a picture of the target.

I would get a few flyers here and there and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it since after 142 shots my low was 897 FPSand my High was 901 FPS...Yeah I know a pretty :poop:'y ES.....AEA 45 grain pellets.

Winds were typical Rio winds with hold offs from 4 MOA to 2 MOA...The winds would switch frequently and catch you off guard if you were not ready. Also you had the times where your flags were pointing in opposite directions

So not sure if the winds bit me in the A$$ or if it was a pellet....Things that make you go HUM!!!!!!

Very nice, congratulations.

Card 1 is over a 224. Not bad, but not great….I will need a very good card today to make the finals. This is the first competition I didn’t shoot a 7, so there is that. I had 5 8’s in a row which killed me. Time for a bite to eat and head out to the range.

Tony P.
Good luck today to you and your wife!!

@Pesty3782 - After seeing your shooting, I had to take my Sonoran out for another round today. Here is a 5 shot group at 100 yards. 4 of the 5 are almost in the same hole. I may be the cause of the one that is outside, but it may have been the pellet. These are very accurate guns!

You are welcome Paul, I guess I should have not traded with you and used it at PAC!!

@Pesty3782 - I believe about 900 but I'll chrony it today for you. 45g FX pellets.

Thank You, Brad! This will be a great long range pester where I can get it on my tripod! It is really long with the moderator on it!

Since they are FX, they are closer to JSBs than AEAs! I haven't tried any of the AEAs out of the gun yet. I have a stock pile of the 44.75/45g in both JSB and FX. These are shooting so well now at this tune that I'll probably leave it so I don't screw it up! I have yet to try the 50.15g and the Zan 56g pellets. I have some of the JTS 45g that I can also try.

Ok, I feel stupid lol. I read the “FX” and it didn’t sink in. I m so used to everyone posting that they’re shooting AEA and JSB pellets in the Sonoran. I’m not in the same shooting tier as you and Tony and some of the others shooting the Sonoran, but it seems to do well with just about any pellets. Following Tony’s advice (and a few others like PumaCarl and Solo1), I’m convinced that my Sonoran likes a clean barrel.

@Billm - I seem to "read and forget" now more than I did a few years back! And I'm not in Tony's class of shooting! I just go and shoot a lot, but not in competition. And yes on the clean barrel. I did a few pulls on the Sonoroan before I took it out.

I have not shot any of the slugs that are the same weight and rougly size of the pellets yet. I'm pretty happy with the pellet performance and have other guns that I shoot mostly slugs with. But I will try some and post the results.

I really don’t know who’s who as far as competitors on hear, so I assume everyone is LOL. I’ve just started swaging my own slugs. I just tried 44.7gr. 900-920fps. They’re grouping right around 1” at 100yds. I’ve gone from 44gr to 54g. My Sonoran doesn’t seem to be able to sling the 52gr above 830 fps. My slugs are coming out at .3003 +/- and I don’t think they are getting a perfect seal. I was discussing ordering a .30 round nose boat tail similar to the Altaros, but I think they’d be too heavy for my Sonoran. I’m really thinking I would like something with just a little more power for slugs.

If you really like playing with slugs ( which in my opinion isn’t a great idea) perhaps a blackwolf or a tiapan vet 2 or an agt is in your future. I don’t know but ive tried a lot of slugs and while some don’t shoot bad i can generally get as good with pellets @100 anyway. I don’t really have room to shoot farther. Oh by the way try a couple a couple tho under 30 if you can sometimes it seems to me that is better to a point
