Tracking a pest

So here’s an example of what started me down this path of Airguns. I found this yesterday when I was checking the oil in my truck.





Every vehicle we have has suffered some form of damage in the past due to squirrels. Also the electrical wiring of my home has been damaged previously.

Having worked in the electrical industry and repairing the damage to the electrical systems of residential dwellings caused by rodents, I am keenly aware of the potential destruction that they can cause.

Some of the things I’ve done to try reduce the population on my property and the damage caused by squirrels is cutting down 17 trees that produce acorns that were close to my house.

Making sure there’s no standing water around such as the condensate drain by my air conditioner.

I also have a very large leaf catcher that will pick up acorns that I use regularly.

And I pray for more hawks and owls to take up residence here.

I hear you! Just had this conversation the other evening with some 30 somethings. They said I was over emphasizing the problem because I just wanted to shoot something. I did a full on belly laugh at them and basically told them that they were young enough, and just starting out with their own homes in the country, that they would run into all the problems that they never paid attention to in their youth. And they certainly will. After dinner I showed/shot my Barra and TalonP for one of the husbands, and a rabbit walked out at 50y, 10y closer than what we were shooting at. He didn't want to shoot it, and I told him that he will come to wish that he had, and I truly believe that. Like I told them, the most common problem is chipmunks in the engine compartment eating up wiring, or undermining shrubs and flowers. Rabbits have just become a problem here very recently but I see them as the most openly visible problem going forward. The barracks I was stationed at in Germany had a rabbit infestation on one end of it. What a mess.

I put a whole new main engine harness on one vehicle there was just too much to chase down.

On another, I was able to solder new wires into 5 injectors. They had also chewed the lid and the top of the tank off of the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Last time I checked, Florida has loosened some of the hunting laws regarding the eastern gray squirrel, including allowing you to hunt them year round, so the overall population must be getting up there.

Darn something has eaten the anti collision wiring twice I ended up putting a noise making device under the hood it’s been ok for a while

Squirrels around here dont bother vehicles much .... but they (& chipmunks!) sure will wreck a house roof if they can. I have been growing all kinds of fruit shrubs and trees and this year my biggest sweet cherry tree finally had its first real crop, probably just over 100 cherries on it. It's too big for one of those nets so I'd shoot the birds off it just as they were getting ripe. Well a racoon devoured every single in 2 nights, snapping branches off in the process I waited up 2 nights till midnight but nothing, so I ended up trapping it and shot it with my Ghost. We have red and Grey Squirrels here, with the reds being super loud and in your face. Like the picture below i got from my shop window 2 weeks ago.....its like they know i can't shoot them

I know someone who did that regularly, a heavy rain storm did cause some issues.

I’m saving up for a steel building/garage for a more permanent solution.

This was today just before 10am I was outside with the dog and spotted these three in the front yard @ 100y +\-

So last night, I set up from inside of one of my sheds to use as a blind.

I think it was successful, though I would’ve also like to get an armadillo that is digging some very nice holes around the yard.
