Ghost Plus or HP Ghost in .22?

Trying to make a decision about which version of the Ghost would be suitable. I see that the HP has a slightly longer barrel and offers much more power. Can it be adjusted so as to provide a high shot count per fill and possibly less noise when shooting? My uses for the Ghost would be plinking and pesting. But I also want something that is quiet too. As far as turning a HP down for say FT, is it possible? Otherwise, would there be any advantage in the plus over the HP?

22 is not the best caliber for FT, but it can be used. At under 20 FPE there is a much larger drop in the pellet than the 177 for FT. Not saying it can't be done, but not sure if you can tune the HP down enough.

Not sure distance you want to shoot/pest at, but my 22 Carbine (Same barrel length as the Plus) has taken out ground squirrels out past 100 yards with no problem. It is my go to pesting rig for sure.

The wife shoots the Ghost 177 carbine for HFT and does damn good with it.

My HP Ghost is a pellet fussy beast. I have tried EVERYTHING through it (Any brand slug no, Crosmans no, H&N no, light Jsbs no, Jts no), and it only loves Jsb Mrds. So if that's OK go for it. If you tune it waaay down it will surely like the lighter Jsb stuff and crosmans pellets. With your plan I would go with the Ghost plus 100%, can also slap on a moderator and keep it short that way too. I plan to make mine a slugger so the HP made more sense. Welcome to Ham! Lots of Ghost users here that's for sure, I have no regrets with mine so far.

I have a .22 ghost plus, it is deadly out to 50 yds. I have shot starlings on top of a silo at 100yds but it's not every time.
Have to shot 7moa to get them at 100yds. I do have a moderator, but it is borderline backyard friendly. when i shoot
18.13gn jsb at 10 on power wheel i can get 60 shots. These rifles are built solid and easy to work on. If you don't need it right away watch AoA they have good sales on them 400$ off. put a quality scope on it and your friends will say, gee you have been smiling a lot lately. 👌

I have the .177 HP. The longer barrel is more efficient for a given reg setting. If your goal is to go with pellets on the lighter side, lower reg settings will hamper the adjustability of the wheel. In retrospect, I would have purchased the plus. The advantage being the reg could be closer to the sweet spot, and the rifle would be shorter when a moderator is fitted. If power for hunting, and heavy pellets is the goal the HP would be a good option.

I believe the Carbine and Plus had the same 17” barrel length…? The difference is the size of the bottle…? If I raise the reg pressure will I get more adjustability from PW?…🙏

First, look at the fpe figures for the two guns. As I recall, they are different, which makes me suspect something internally is different. Second, if we think of the regulator like the faucet on a garden hose we can change the flow of water by covering the end of the hose with our thumb. The thumb being the valve in this case. The more open the faucet (regulator) the more change can be affected by the thumb (power wheel). Armed with this thought you should be able to answer your own question.

@Scriv, thanks for that clear explanation…🙏
You are welcome. Regarding the ghost, I try to get the velocity close to what I want with the reg, and then adjust the power wheel (up, one step at a time) until the SD is low. I interpret that as a happy system. I guess that I should have said that I adjust the reg with the wheel on min.

I get a healthy 100fps adjustment on most ammo choices, Luis. I still haven't touched anything on the gun other than H.W. setting. Until I get a compressor that ain't happening! 😆

That's the first time I noticed that!? Everyone has said they are the same minus bottle size, and the shroud on the carbine is shorter (useless)?! The ➕️ is the HP with the shorter but proper twist rate barrel (1:17 not 1:30) The HP .22 is currently only available with the slow twist. The WR version is available to order with either barrel twist.

The devil is in the details. When I looked at them it really didn't make any sense to me to have two guns, same barrel length, different bottle size? That's when I looked at the specs. Ah, there we go. Now it makes sense. Reduce the power level so you can have a smaller bottle/more compact rifle, and not sacrifice shot count.

Try the JTS 21.5gr, semi-dome, at anywhere between 900 to 950 ft/sec. My Ghost really likes this pellet.

I have the Donny FL KOI on the Ghost for 177 & 22, the 0dB on the 22 Revere...the Revere is much louder than the 22 Ghost...I haven't swapped moderators to see if its the Ghost or the Revere vs the moderator...

I take it no clipping putting the .22 on the .22? Are you using Donny's quick release system too?
