New Offering: The FX Pocket Chronograph Pro

So it uses GA, G1, and RA4 curves. I didn't see how you can select which one to use. I wonder how many years until the price comes down?
Perhaps when they come out with a new 1 I don’t see the price changing with them loosing $500 over the old big 1. There is a choice in there mine is charging now or id look

I see they say if you want to calc center fire velocity you need to put the unit down range. I wonder if I could just put a athlon Chrono down range and get a velocity reading?
I would think that by putting the fx down range it Would tell you bc without you having to calculate given that the garmin would work that way. Don’t know never tried

FX changed the form factor to compete with the Garmin Xero and Athlon Rangecraft. They also lowered their price to around $500 which is more competitive with the Garmin unit. Plus there appear to be features on this unit that the Garmin and Athlon do not posses, like the ability to calculate BC. I’m not sure how this unit accomplishes that, but I think it’s worth exploring if that’s important to you. Here’s a curious thing, it can track velocities up to 4500 fps, but only calculates BC of projectiles traveling up 1280 fps. I wonder why FX limited this unit to only calculating BC of projectiles topping out around 1280 fps.

I was wondering why they’d discontinued the FX True Ballistics Chronograph. Sucks to be the guy who is stuck with a True Ballistics unit if these units perform similarly and FX doesn’t continue support and firmware upgrades.

PRS Mode features look pretty slick.

I received an email with $499.99 as the stated price. Who knows if this will change?

Not gonna lie I am a little upset about this new crono. Well about the fact I just purchased the D1 the day before this was available to buy. If I had known it was coming out I would have waited the extra day and bought the pro instead. I may end up returning the D1 to pyramyd air and buying the pro from Utah airguns since they said they already have them in stock.

The BC is great. I considered buying the True Ballistics or the Labradar just for that.
I saw where you have to take 10 shots for it to give you a bc. And then its a range between two set of numbers. But I dont have one in hand I just watched a few videos on it yesterday or the day before. Anyways it has everything im looking for in a crono. To bad I just bought the d1 the day before this released. I still haven't even gotten the D1. I think I'll return it and get the pro instead.

The Garmin does not calculate BC at all. The downrange setting simply flashes the whole screen several times to let you know that it successfully recorded the velocity on that shot. It saves you walking downrange, only to find out that all of your shots were not captured. If you don’t see it flash, you simply shoot again. If it still doesn’t flash, you know that you need to reposition the downrange Garmin. To calculate a BC with the Garmin you have to shoot a group with the Garmin and then shoot a second group with the Garmin downrange. You then take the average muzzle velocity and the average downrange velocity and what range it was measured at and enter the data into a BC calculator. You can do it with either a single unit or with two.

@JtMunn Have you considered keeping the D1, buying the Pro, comparing the performance of both, and sending back the one you like the least?

I understand that people might be upset when they purchase something and something newer comes out within a few days of their purchase. I’ve been on both ends as a retailer and a customer. In most cases the retailer does not know that a product is about to be replaced either. Manufactures take the chance that it will only affect a few customers. In this case that is probably not true. It’s evident that both dealers and YouTubers were aware of the product launch and that there was a non-disclosure and media embargo until yesterday. Dealers actually had the product in stock on the day of the public announcement and there were YouTube reviews ready to go.
But, there’s really no foul here. The Pocket Chronograph Pro is not replacing the D1, it is a flagship product replacing the current flagship product the True Ballistic Chronograph. It costs $239.99 more ( almost double) what the FX D1 is selling for. Most people looking at buying a $259 chronograph aren’t usually on the fence about a $499 version. It’s a different story for anyone that bought the True Ballistics Chronograph in the last two weeks or so. I’m not posting this to mock anyone that wishes they’d waited for a new product. The D1 is still a current model and so it should be returnable. It’s just a matter of whether or not the extra $240 is worth it for the extra features. I don’t know how the airgun industry works, but in the RC hobby industry it wasn’t unusual for manufacturers to refuse returns on discontinued items.

Well i think this could save some on ammo. Having bc on it will allow less shots down range. Instead of buying 4 tins and shooting up halfto know if its a pellet you want you can buy 4 different tins and have enough to make a good decision.
@Solo1 Can you post some screen shots of the app's display screens?
