Ghost How Consistent/Capable Is Your Ghost?

You need jb bore bright and 1/2 dozen bore mops. Push a pellet through noting tight or rough spots work those first 20-30 strokes do full barrel 20-30 strokes clean and shoot if it starts acting up quickly hit it again after that you should be good. Basically all your doing is removing small imperfections that collect lead like sanding with 1500.

Thanks again @Solo1 Great advice. I've watched videos on how to do it and would prefer to do it myself. It seems like it would be a good idea to do this proactively out of the box.

Along these lines, do you guys think AoA custom tunes, specifically the polishing and machine lapping, is worth it in general and specifically for the Ghost? I realize that I'm speaking mostly to DIYers when ask this. But still, I am interested in your thoughts.

I’m kind of mixed on the power tune from AOA. If you don’t want to work on your rifle and have the extra cash, maybe do it. I did with the Sonoran. Having seen what the power tune required, I
‘d do it myself. It looks like they took a dremel to the transfer port. I’m not sure how much of a trigger job they did. I didn’t like it and I lowered it to 8oz, had several slam fires and raised it up over 10ozs. I don’t remember what the trigger weight was when I received it, but I believe over 1.5lbs.

Yeah, I don't mind paying for the tuning expertise of others and services that add baseline value. It would be a piece of mind proposition for me knowing, or thinking that I know, that I am starting at a good place with a new gun and then adapt from there as needed. But, I don't want to pay for marketing upselling.

I'm grateful for places like this where I can stand on the shoulders of people with passion, experience, and expertise.

I have polished my barrels, and it is easy to do, just takes a little time, I used JB Polish and Flitz for the final pass, it improved the accuracy. I also have a .30 cal. SUB MOA barrel, and I polished that as well. what I am finding is I get about 700 shots then need to just clean the barrel and it back on track. I have the LW slug barrel in .22 cal. and it helped out with accuracy with that too.

You should clean the barrel when you get the gun, shoot it, then do the polishing to track your shoots to see if you have improvement.

I recently retired. Got the urge to start shooting again in my backyard. I bought a Notos from HajiMoto that he modified and tuned. I'm hooked again! Looking to add a new gun led me to the Ghost, but I was concerned about some of the stuff I was seeing in the forums. Talking with you guys has alleviated most of those concerns.

So...looking at the Ghost, Vulcan 3, Slash, and the Sonoran for my next purchase. I tend to over analyze stuff, so this will be a process. Fortunately, or maybe "strangely" is a better word, I really enjoy the process of researching.

Get yourself an inexpensive bore scope if you don’t have one. It will allow you to see severe lead buildup and the physical impact that your polishing is having. Just don’t start looking for defects, it’s a deep, deep rabbit hole. I bought and use this one, there are several to choose from:

I’m a research wonk as well. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of in-depth info available, hence me spending so much time on here. I have no input/experience with the Vulcan or the Slash. I own both the Ghost HP .25 and the Sonoran .30 and will start a different thread with a few personal insights.

Ok so im going to get on my ghost soap box. Ive had a ghost since feb after they came out in November the yr before. Ive had to replace 1 barrel o ring cause it got nicked by a sharp edge on the barrel installing it. The receiver is 1 solid block of aluminum unlike fx which has many parts for change in temp to move at separate rates. The 23” barrels shoot pellets very well once polished even loren parsons was shooting a ghost with brk barrel for bench till she got a sub moa for it and doing well. At this time im fully invested in the ghost are there rifles that shoot as well probably are there rifles as dependable probably but i think the ghost sits in a pretty high spot among its competitors.

Have a vet 2 700. Cant speak for the slash. The vet is a fine rifle dont care for the aluminum cheek rest or the ping in your ear but it has a good trigger shoots 25 cal slugs well but i think my ghost has the edge with pellets.

My main issue with my ghost as issued(I bought mine new) is that the trigger was horrible. It was a constant internal conflict whether to trade it back in, or not. I followed the provided instructions, and got nowhere with it. I was at the breaking point when I found the video from sub 12 Airgunner on how to fix it. I followed verbatim, and sure enough, it was broke. Then we followed further down the path to fixing it. When it was all done, I ended up with a trigger that was heavier than most would like, but it was crisp. I can deal with that. Some additional tuning, and the thing drives tacks. All day, every day. I find most don't use the power wheel effectively, but that's not my problem. I'm fortunate to have a tune that uses low reg pressure, is able to shoot two different weights of pellets all while maintaining an SD of 2, or less. She's the homeliest girl at the ball, but she can dance.

Eye of the beholder thing, but I like the looks. Then again, I don't own one...yet.
