Sonoran Looking for info on the BRK Sonoran in .22 caliber

I’m thinking that the fact no one seems to do very well with slugs using the Ghost, apparently even with the slug barrels (according to some of the posts) is a driving factor. Slugs seem to be such a mixed bag, everyone seems to have different expectations and thoughts on what good 100yd slug groups actually are.
Thats not necessarily true especially with 22. We are at a point now where 22 slugs in airguns are very comparable to 22 lr in velocity, bc and power. So direct comparison is easy.

I agree (I think), optimally .22 slugs should be sub-MOA, plenty of .22lr are. But, I’m meaning that airgunners don’t seem to be able to agree on what a realistic “great” group is with .22 slugs and the hunt for the perfect slug barrel seems to be never ending. What would you say is the size of the smallest 5 shot group that you’ve gotten from your slug barrels? I’m referring mostly to Dans question of why someone would expect the Sonoran .22 to perform better than a Ghost.22, I’m assuming with a slug barrel. Im guessing the .22 Sonoran is similar to the .30 and the barrel is designed to be a jack of all calibers and master of neither so to speak. Does the Sonoran .22 have the power to push heavy high BC slugs? I don’t know. You’d know more about that.

Yip, thats what i wondering too. The Ghost has big power (even with that 'small' plenum lol). No its nowhere near the top but it easily hits 32fpe in .177, 75 in .22, and 120fpe in .30 with the respective 28" barrels. With the right barrel it will shoot slugs easily enough. Power is not the issue, more so can it compete with said rimfires for accuracy at say 75 to 150Y?
The Sonoran in .30 is a bit of a dog compared to a 28" barreled Ghost and I'd stick with pellets in it for sure. That blue special edition Ghost @AtlasAirguns showed off with his wife came set to 120fpe and they had to tune er down for pellets.

I have the LW slug barrel, and I have been working on the tune more than shooting groups at 100 yards yet. I have had good success with the 40.7 grain Zan ELR coated slugs. Once it warms up and I am back from working out of town will then start shooting for accuracy. Will be working to get the SD number down a little lower and grouping at 100 yards

Haha I had a good laugh indeed😂.
Owning a .22 Ghost myself (just shot that pest rabbit an hour ago with it!) I am genuinely curious what the .22 Sonoran would have that the Ghost wouldn't @ARW? I mean....other than 2 guns are better than one😜
I actually had two .22 cal HP Ghosts, the only two air rifles I own. The reason I had two was if one broke I would have a spare to fall back on and not be without a rifle while repairs are made.
I ordered a .22 cal. SUBMOA barrel from AOA in May of last year for one of my Ghosts and it still hasn't come in so when I saw the .22 cal. Sonoran came with a SUBMOA barrel and AOA had it in stock I traded one of my Ghosts for it.

I like the concept and its why I own two Atomic XRs… Looking forward to your impressions on the Sonoran…

Hey Danman, have you ever tried the Ace slugs in 22 that Utah air is always shooting on their YouTube channel videos? I was wondering if they were any good. Anybody using them should chime in as well.

I have been shooting them and they shoot very well. They do like speeds above 950fps
The 40.7 Zan ELR shot good too and they like fast speeds. This is what I am shooting at with my tune on the Zans now to start working on accuracy 🤪

Well, I’m outspoken and speak my mind. But, I’m also big enough to admit when I’ve been wrong. I’m also impulsive, hence buying airguns that I don’t really need or making hasty posts lol. I was asked for some of my tuning info for slugs with the Sonoran .30. I keep terrible records and had to go back through my past information. I’ve beat the Sonoran up several times in the last few months for both pellet and slug accuracy. Looking back at my data with photographic evidence lol, I have shot sub 1/2” pellet groups and MOA slug groups at 100-103yds with it. Can I do that every time: no, but that’s on me and the wind. Which just reinforces what I posted above about misplaced expectations for slugs. I’ve been expecting too much in my opinion.

@Billm I thought you were getting good results in the past with the Sonoran. Everyone wants to compare the Sonoran with the Ghost. They are two completely different guns and tune differently. And the costs are much different. Keep shooting the Sonoran as mine gets better as I improve my shooting skills

I have heard nothing but good things about them (maybe just not the price?🤔) But I have not tried them, as I dont have a slug barrel yet for my Ghost! Income tax season is just around the corner though😉
I'm hoping for something lighter in the 25-34gr range going 900-1000fps to shoot well out of it for the pests I deal with here. A 40gr solid is outright overkill lol.

Yeah but Dead is Dead 🤪

Zero arguing that but....
Goals: Keep my reg @ 150B, run the 480cc bottle, add extra 10cm of blessed slug barrel and thereby gain more fps. Loose that same Fps as slugs drag more vs pellets and come out about even (by sending a 25gr Jsb KO slug vs 25.39gr Mrd) 900-1000fps using just the wheel to tune.

Hmmm now im wondering what the BC of an Mrd is vs the same weight KO slug?!😂

I don't think that Ace has come out with 25 caliber slugs in their line yet as the 22 caliber was their first one made for competition. I'm going to order some for my Barra 250z 22 that I just installed the plenum on to see what kind of power gains it has now when it warms up as my body can't take the zero and ten degree weather outside. Maybe this year the 25 cal slugs will come out for our other rifles along with 30 cal also!

I’ll, bet they’re coming. I had a long text conversation with Corbin about the dies for the new slugs and it sounded like it.
