Notos New to HAM and Airsystems but an old gun guy

i love those little 1322's working on one now for a buddy
pulled a barrel from a old crosman rifle i am putting on it. got a little machine work to do nothing major mostly minor
I recently refurbished an old thrown away crossman 1000. It had more than 10 BB rusted in the barrel. After quite a lot of elbow grease, a few rebuilt parts, new front sight and some rattle cans, I brought it back to life.

UPDATE

So after a bunch of interweb searching on the AR folder that many like but is out of stock/in development with Leapers, I found a knock off version that is quite nice. It comes from China, so it will take a few weeks to get it but for the money, its good enough to do the job. Its built nicely, closes and locks as clean as any name brand one at half or less that half the price. Im not getting anything for ackowledging them, just sharing my future upgrade to the 3D grip I will eventually get. Its built for AR platform, so it will have extra stuff not needed for the bolt group. I also ordered a Air Marksman kit for a decent deal at Utah airguns and UTG side folder legs 1st gen for the handguard (Ebay). (see pics). Both places gave me a little off for being a vet. If interested, here is the website link

Heres some pictures.

Going to wait until next month to save up a few pennies to get the 3D printed grip system to make it a folder. I guess I could mess around with the standard stock, but Buck rail seems to make it a little shorter to the optic. especially since the folding adapter adds a couple inches as well. I have an old pistol brace I may slap on it, or shop around for a deal on a adjustable AR stock. Just dropped a buck and a half on foster fittings. (Ouch). 🤑 But at least they are the right fittings for the job.

🤙 Aloha fellow enthusiasts

First post, not new to firearms or forums 🌿😉 got a NOTOS, Mantis 9x32ao recently because the Crosman Shockwave I got came with the worst rear sights ever made.

Trying to be responsible with pest control & not throw lead around the neighborhood 🤕

I have medical problems that cause tremors & my aim is far worse at 45 than 10 years old. 😒

So I’ve missed a few embarrassing shots & found the Ted’s Holdover video & a couple more & realized “aha” can’t be messing around with hobby crap, gotta upgrade! 😎

Luckily there’s an indoor range about 5 minutes drive from me.

So far I have taken some shots, played with the scope, but no real sight in session. Probably will get the bipod.

The magazine’s are crap IMO & looking for an upgrade landed me here. 👋

Current pellet selection is Gamo red fire 14.something, JSB exact 18.5?, & NSA 30gr slugs(just because of the novelty)

Apologies to @RetLE303 if I’m messing up your thread. Y’all seem like welcoming folk.

Welcome to HAM! The .30gr slugs should be interesting.....gonna tell you right now No Bueno with the 2 guns you got shooting those beasts! They'll probably spit them out but not near enough power/speed.

Welcome to HAM.

Glad to hear you’re not going let anything hold you back, but you still want to be responsible slinging lead. 👍👍

I don’t know all the details of your situation, but a longer heavier rifle comes to mind. Would give you some added stability for making a quality shot.

You did not mention your shooting position, but I imagine bench rest?

As far as the pesting goes, what distance do you have available to?

Perhaps a dedicated target and feeder kill zone set up so that you can target practice and pest also. Minimizing as many variables as possible, practicing that one repetitive quality shot.

Best of luck, hope you enjoy your time here. 👍

Welcome brother !!

No apology at all sir. Your always welcome to jump in the talk! I learned tremendous info from everyone here, especially FL22 and McNasty.

As you probably read in most of my thread some tips for the Notos. So far, only used the H&N Baracuda match 21.14 grain. They are heavier, but still very accurate. The lighter the grain, the faster it will travel BUT remember the three studies of ballistics (internal, external and terminal) What happens inside the barrel=internal, what happens outside the barrel=external and what happens to the target=terminal.

Also, just as FL22 remarked, a bench and bi-pod will healp greatly. Remember, the more of YOU that you take out of the rifle while shooting, the more the RIFLE does on its part. :) Everyone has some flinching, shaking and reaction while shooting. Breathing, bone structure (prone/bench/supported) firing positions will greatly help.

I once taught a fellow pistol shooter Conceled Carry who had parkinsons which caused tremendous shaking all the time. But when he drew and focussed, he calmed himself and still able to fire accuratly to qualify (quite good as well). Shooting is very much mental as it is physical. The brain plays a big part in signaling action to nerves and can be controlled. I am 52 and been shooting since 16. Still practicing and perfecting my skills. You can never do enough practice to stay tuned. But enough of my 2 cents on that.

Shooting for pest control. Remember all basic firearm safety. In particular, know what is beyond your target. The air guns are quiet enough not to wake the neighborhood. But you dont want an erand round going through your fence and into the neighbors home/property/people. They are powerful and can injure/kill. Still got to respect that.

Scope. Good choice. The lower part of your adjustable objective 3X will help get you some eye relief. The higher the power, the more you will have to have your eye relief to the optic perfect to get a clear sight picture. Depending on your amount of tremors and ability to hold perfectly still, consider a red dot. Again, I say this based on not knowing your condition and its mearly just a suggestion. Red dots without magnification dont need eye relief. BUT a red dot doesnt help get your sight picture up close and are as accurate in my opinion. I personally would always have a scope for accuracy. Practice using various powers on your scope. See which works the best for you.

Magazine. Yes, My stock Umarex will never get used. I bought the Maple customs stealth 10 round. They work great, yet still low enough to clear most scopes. Just buy 3 and youll have extra mags should they ever stop working. They come from Canada, where they lost to an American hockey team:ROFLMAO::p Sorry, had to throw that in there.

Best of luck, hope you enjoy your time here. 👍
Got to say FL22 is spot on here.

Longer heavier rifle does help with absorbing recoil and reducing muzzle/sight movement.

The one thing I liked about the base NOTOS is that you upon adding the scope/base,handguard,bi-pod and maybe additional add-ons (heavier stock) you build a heavier gun overall, yet still portable and in carbine/bullpup length. Im pretty happy overall with the weight, but can see in the future when getting/adding plenum or bigger tank, it will be pretty close to some heavier wood stock guns.

Welcome to HAM! The .30gr slugs should be interesting.....gonna tell you right now No Bueno with the 2 guns you got shooting those beasts! They'll probably spit them out but not near enough power/speed.
Correct ! I thought the 21.14 H&N would be too heavy, but they do the job and are accurate. Aimless maybe look at the HAM thread on the Notos write up. Shows plenty of rounds and accuracy. Cant go wrong with that ! Saves you the trouble and cost. ;)
