Notos New to HAM and Airsystems but an old gun guy

I must give a shout out to HAM for doing the write up and making the choice of starter pellets easy.

Without a doubt, great shooter.

I will be giving it a little scrub tommrow. Stupid question, but is it okay to clean from the muzzle down on air guns? I have NEVER done that on any pistol/rifle except revolvers. And even then Im pretty carefull.

I think my 25 yard group is under half inch. Maybe a little less, but I used those shoot-n-see dots (1 inch) for reference

Am I ready for some competition? LOL kidding, Im old. ;):D
When you say scrub…?

I would not use any wire brush that is used for a powder burner. Typically airgun barrels are softer metal compared to firearms and can be damaged by an abrasive.

A Patch worm kit is your Airgun friend. If you’re not familiar with it, it comes 100% ready to use.

Well sir pcps (both of mine) are a PAIN to clean if you don't have the pull through cord kits! I like to start on the breech and work to the bore, careful with those o-rings. This pushes the lube and any filings out and down through the bore. And I'm sure you know... but no petroleum products!
Thanks ! Yeah, I got to watch some good videos on that. I have some cleaning cords, but likely a 223. I think will do the trick, but I will double check on that. I figured there was some o-rings in there somewhere. Air has to come in from some port, any suggestions ot tips are more than welcome. Thanks !

Perfect !! Gonna order one now. Thanks !!

I have used bore snakes but removed the wire brush part. Just push it together to make slack.

Seems on the notos, the chamber area is so small, I think that patch worm is the answer. Enough bend in it to allow a patch to pass through. Umarex cleaning kit has mops and jags, but I cant see that being able to flex. Youd think they would have a flexible brush for this. (Million dollar idea?)

I’d like to add that pull-through cleaning kits are good for airguns. I used Ballistol on my patches. If you’d like to scrub, I’ve read that a nylon brush can be used. Some barrels can take brass brushes (like those on American Air Arms rifles and some others), but I’d remove the barrel from the gun to do so. I’d also used a dedicated brush solely for cleaning airguns. If you aren’t shooting a significant amount of Airgun slugs, I wouldn’t worry much about scrubbing a bore. I’m not comfortable speaking on cleaning solutions, so I’ll let other members that are more knowledgeable chime in on that subject.

You will also need a plastic drinking straw, insert it in the muzzle end as a guide. Put the worm through the breach and feed it when you feel resistance on the straw from the patch, pull them both at the same time through. 👍

OK. Glad I watched a few vids on cleaning. My mind has always been clean then re-shoot for a little dirty barell to maintain accuracy. Good ideas on pull throughs, Napier and patch worms. Gonna get a list together and order today.

Any recomendations on your favorite non-petroleum based cleaners appreciated !!

The is not much in the way of airgun stuff out in Middle TN. A lot of gun stores, but not that much on air stuff. I do like the roll of pre-oiled patches I found in some videos.

I just watched that video and saw that trick. Awesome. Thanks !

Especially since it has a moderator. (Which I assume you dont want to get oil in).

Are airgun barrells better a little tiny oiled or dry? For the most part?

Great advice Thanks !!

I will be making a dedicated kit just for this. I have far too many tools and cleaning stuff for the majority of my collection. For the most part, it seems that patches remove most of the lead from within. However, if the rifling gets too leaded, I imagine it would lead to inaccuracy. But AoA guy said no need to clean until accuracy becomes an issue. I tend to be more of a keep it clean, but fire a few to keep it a little dirty after your cleaning session to maintain your proper shot placement.

OKAY. Finally got a few things organized and came in this weekend. So still unifired. Working on GX pump set up today and hopefully will get this dialled in this week. Heres a few upgrades so far.

Truglo 1-6X24 Illuminated red/green with BDC. Great deal at gun show which came with covers/one piece mount.
$ 125. Couldnt pass that up. The eye relief is just right with the 6X as close to the magazine well as possible.

3 Maple Customs Stealth mags. 10rd $24 each plus shipping. Pretty quick shipping from Canada. They look solid

Inspire Precision's molded handguard with rails. Solid fit. Take your time putting them on and dont overtighten. $60 with shipping.

I will be researching sidepods next. Also ordered a AR folder part from Specprecision. If anyone is looking for the leaper/UTG and waiting on backorder, Specprecision has a knock off for $34. Looks as solid as the name brand Law Tactical version. I will eventually get the Buck rail adapter. I have a SB tactical pistol brace already to slap on, or I may go with a minamilist stock. All depends on the sidepod position hoping it doesnt interfere.

Let me know your thoughts and opinions !!

You're well on your way to getting your Notos setup the way you like it! The Maple mags are awesome and mine all cycle perfectly. And if you were lucky, yours has a decent trigger too. Welcome to the addiction brother! 😁

I have been told that by the AoA service department as well and I’m sure it’s probably true for the majority of airguns however, in my experience with my S510 specifically, it absolutely has to have a clean barrel maintained for accuracy. Like every 200 shots I also noticed that after cleaning my Airacuda regularly accuracy has also increased. 👍

Balistol is the only cleaner that will not damage air rifle seals. Regular powder burner cleaners are a no go!

I forgot to mention, but for safety reasons, please make sure that your airgun is degassed and the safety is on.

I’ve read some stories and we don’t want bad things to happen to your Airgun or finger. 🤭

Exactly. All your accuracy comes from the barrel no matter what kind of system. Unless its a smoothbore, you have to keep it clean for proper spin.

Thank you sir !

The trigger is a little heavy, but Im getting used to it. Feels like a 5lb pull at least, but maybe im just out of practice. i will put a meter on it to see what its averaging. By the looks of it seen in videos taken apart, its not that complicated. Maybe some polishing and lubrication will help clean up the pull a little. :)

How often should it be degassed? In your opinion.
And I assume its just fire it until empty. I dont see any other way.

As often as you cock it and place part of your body in front of the muzzle or have it pointed towards walls or objects you don’t want damaged when trying to clean or work on the gun. There’s usually a screw that can be incrementally loosened to degas an airgun. Some can be degased by incrementally loosening the manometer (gauge). I’d consult your owners manual and parts lists for details. If you can find videos on YouTube that’s been helpful for me.
