One airgun to rule them all?

That is not bad at all bud, especially with some wind! I’d say that’s pretty serviceable considering how tight the choke is on those LW barrels. The drop in FPS does surprise me some but I remember seeing a HAM article about this very topic not that long ago I believe. I think the twist rate and the choke plus the aerodynamics of the slug all equals to what you saw but I’m far from an expert.
There actually wasn’t any drop in fps, my dumb ass had the fx chronny facing backwards on the barrel 🙄 I only got one to register at 777 and fired like 10 more shots and it wouldn’t register, I thought maybe the chronny was broke or something, did a five shot group a little bit ago with it facing the right way lol much better lol like 950fps, I’m pleased with the accuracy for what I need it for and decent power for pesting around the house, looks like the nsa 17.5’s are my new favorite for this rifle just sucks not being able to use the magazine

Ok, so this will be a little long winded so bear with me!!

I spend a couple hrs shooting today. I got through all 3 of my current pcp’s, and shot a few mags through them all.
I started with the crown. Now to premise, I just converted it to 25cal 500mm barrel shooting 34gn jsb at 850fps. I dialed it in what I thought was a good tune a few days ago. I shoot it today for the first time at 75yds. It was WAY off target. So I dialed it in again. This thing is shooting all over the place. Can’t get a steady group to save my life, and the gun just sounds off. Must have been an issue with my tune, or it settled in and isn’t where I left it. Who knows!
Bummed a bit, I go and grab my veteran standard in 25cal. Now this thing is a shooter, but I have a love/hate relationship with bullpups. I’m not very good at keeping them steady. I find this out again today being the first time shooting it at 75yds. I’m all over the place again. I know it’s me this time, because I can’t keep the rifle steady. I’m just not in a comfortable position with it. So now I know my limitations. This thing is a laser under 50yds in my hands. Anything past that, I just can’t hold it steady enough.
So now I’m more bummed, so I go grab my evol mini. I have done ZERO tuning to this rifle, and have a cheap vector veyron scope on top dialed in to 35yds.
I assume the same position I did with the last 2 and dialed for 75yds. BAM first shot dead on! BAM! 2nd shot dead on. Now the wind is picking up, so I continue to shoot, not holding for wind. Just wanting to see what kind of groups I’ll get at 75yds in this wind. After all 11 shots are fired, my group was under 2” with what I’d say was about a 5-6mph left to right wind. It’s shooting hades at 860fps at 75yds, and I get that group.

Now the reason I posted here, is because we all thrive to find the do it all gun. The one that could replace all, and we always look at these modular guns that can swap calibers, and barrel lengths, and tune on the fly, and external adjustments up the yin and Yang, but we forget that no matter how many bells and whistles a gun has, if YOU can’t shoot it, it’s pointless.
Now I’ve had great days with all these rifles, so I know this was a bad day for me. So why is it that even on a “bad” day of shooting, my mini still shot unbelievably well? It’s because it is an extremely well built pcp, that I personally can shoot incredibly well ALL THE TIME!!!
So do I keep my other pcp’s knowing when I have to grab it for a quick knock down, I may be having a “bad day” and could miss a shot, or worse yet, injure an animal instead of a clean kill?
Or do I sell all, and keep what I know just plain works???

The one airgun to rule them all!

Thanks for reading!
Thanks for this wright up. I appreciate the comparison of your rifles.

Currently, I am really enjoying the .22 Cricket 2 Tactical 70. I will likely take it hunting in a few days. It weighs a good bit but I will likely be posted up on a fallen branch or something. Wish me luck!

When I have pested on farms and such in the past , I used everything surrounding me. Plenty of stuff in the woods to use for a rest as well!

well i have chose to follow and not post on this thread because i dont have a lot of experience with a large number of platforms. but i will say at this point based on what i have had my hands on and own the American Air Arms EVOL platform would be my one airgun to rule them all.
i really do love these guns.

Seems like AAA is the way to go. Time to start selling organs because I’m not going to sell guns no way
Lot of people know how many air rifles I've been through, only been in airguns 2.5 years and have owned 90% of the major brands, I think kalibrgun and brk are like the two big big ones I haven't.

I've been shooting evols for basically all of 2023, guess what, I now own 2 evols and a slayer and will have a 4th evol I hope in 2024.

Like @pan60 has said in another thread, American Air Arms should be what everyone else tries to measure up against.

Maybe that comes true when they start winning in major competitions? BRKs measure up fine… as do other brands.🙏

Sounds like you've been through the trials and tribulations of finding the airgun that suits YOU best huh?

It's a rough ride especially when you have to purchase each one and none are handed to you for free like some of the paid youtubers and such.

When you finally do find it, after you have blood and sweat equity in the journey its just so easy to talk about what you love 😀

A fellow evol owner!!! I myself have a recently acquired Leshiy 2 in .30 cal, I also have an Evol paradigm .30 and an Evol Mini .22

Nice setups! Was
Thanks! I bought it used this summer. Awesome gun. It had some issues but I got it fixed. Someone had put a Donny FL .30 mod and it was clipping pellets. A # drill bit fixed that. It also destroyed the insides of the original moderator when I tried to put it back to stock. I put he FL mod back on and no issues. I have a 68 grain NOE boat tail mould I’m trying out. I just ordered the mid sized plenum since my tune now is 2000psi on the reg pushing a hades at 870 fps, the slug is at 700. I want to get a little bit more out of my cast slugs and will switch to ZAN BR 100 since I run them in my SKOUT Epoch too. Got my lube figured out. Still experimenting with alloys though.

Absolutely. Don’t get me wrong the guns that moved on were ok but just didn’t feel right. My first taste of a higher end pcp was the leishy Classic after that I was hooked to the premium stuff because they suit my lifestyle of I don’t have time to tinker. Leishy 2 is the prime example of no tuning just dial your external regulator to set your velocity that’s it takes 4 minutes. My kind of tuning. My fxs are all factory tunes and shoot just fine I don’t mess with them at all.

Very similar thoughts I have to where I landed in the journey . 👏

When you start this adventure you rely on YouTube and man those guys are trying to sell guns so they say anything. I understand thats how they pay their bills but it doesn’t help guys and gals getting started. Like you I’ve also literally owned everything and sold it because they didn’t meet expectations. The only non high end stuff I have now is a Notos, Avenge X (this is kinda border line) and a Crosman Icon because it was $129 and it works great for that price. Other than that that’s it I’m very picky.

Yeah the guys who get the guns for free definitely will sing songs about them and its tough to determine whether or not the reviews/comments about the products are because of that or because of pure enjoyment. I too have become picky and I am ok with it. I have actually tested every rifle I owned at 100, anything I bought for pesting I have tested on my rat permission or rabbits out of a few locals gardens. There is an ass for every seat :)

How did this go from “one airgun to rule them all”? To the above aspersions for example: “Yeah the guys…” 🙄

Implying you’re the only one doing honest reporting/reviewing? You can love your Evols without casting aspersions.🙏
