Alpha/Delta Wolf Nobody wants .30 cal Daystate?

Well maybe you had a good time had 2 red wolfs ended up returning both after sending the first 1 back after a week to have the gcu replaced. 2nd 1 could barely keep the shots on a 81/2”x 11 sheet of paper @100 yds. As far as im concerned they can shove those electronic guns where the sun dont shine!

The KISS principle should apply with a vengeance to all PCPs. I like combustion engines. The only electric thing on my bicycle is the GPS and blinky lights…

It seems the Daystate used .30 cal guns are not selling. I see the used Alpha Wolf, Delta Wolf, and Red Wolf in .30 cal on AoA have been sitting there for a while not moving. No love for .30 cal Daystates?

I don’t believe its about those particular PCPs per say… .30 caliber PCPs are a niche market, if you are a dedicated hunter of medium size critters, or competitor they shine. For the majority? Not so much, you are approaching and surpassing .22 rimfire energy levels. This severly limits where you can deploy these beast. The majority come to airguns for their “lower power goodness”. Yes, the .30 has its place, but it will never be as popular to the majority as the .177 and .22s…

It's no mystery why the new black wolf is all mechanical, the Ghost remains such a hot seller, and Daystate has semi-recently released the "smart" (simplified) version of the electronic guns. I'd bet they are selling more Ghosts then Delta/Alphas combined. I like my airguns like my cars.....manual with minimal electronics.

I really don’t think the barrel was the problem with the 30 either i blame the electronics cause my 30 shoots just fine in the ghost.

Most .30 cal air rifles tend to lack “oomph” to me. IMO they don’t do much better than a Huben .25 when it comes to producing power. Since I hunt, that matters. If a .30 can’t compete with a .25 in power, then it’s .25 for small/mediumish animals until I need more power and I bump it up to 175+ FPE in .357. The .30 has always been an odd caliber to me, yet I own an Evol .30 that I barely shoot. If you’re shooting in competitions then you may make more distinctions. I like to hunt and I’m not the best shot so I want something that will break bones and rip through tissue. I want power and decent accuracy (a barrel manufactured correctly), not a huge shot count and superb accuracy at 100 yards.

I could never agree with that statement. There is no logic in it. A solonoid hits a valve or a hammer hits a valve - that part is still mechanical. If your chrono string was solid then it was something else.

You've had a poor experience and you have the right to hate the electronics - I don't. I love them and have that SAME RIGHT to love as you do to hate them. So I will stand by the electronics as much as you will not. We agree to disagree there.

What I will say is that, in general, the barrels Daystate was making for the Alpha and Delta Wolves and also the Ghost - yes exact same barrel part numbers - were generally freakin turds. I had a .25 Alpha barrel that couldn't stay on paper at 100 yards. I had a .30 barrel that could get less than 6-8" groups at 100 yards. Had a .177 HP barrel that couldn't stay on a 4' x 4' plywood backing at 100 yards. And I've had friends with a Ghost .30 that went back to AoA multiple times and still shot like poop past 50 yards.

So if you love you Ghost - be happy you won the barrel lottery - because I lost it 4 times with different Alpha barrels.

Well there may be no logic but what would you call it when a 177 shoots 1/2” or less groups at 50 yds till it gets to 200 bar then the groups suddenly grow to 2” ? You return the gun they replace the gcu and all of a sudden it shoots good again?

I have a Ghost in .30 that is one of my regular hunting rifles. I have a RW in .25 that I shoot a lot at the range. I did buy one of AoAs "sale" Alpha Wolfs in .22 with the thought of getting a Sub MOA slug barrel for it in .30. I have been able to hunt more on a friend's large ranch and I find myself grabbing a .30 more than anything. The 177/22 are more for "backyard pesting."

The Daystate electronic triggers - to my feel - are superb and I really enjoy them. The AW has the 23" barrel and it seems I get a lot more "flyers" out of it than my RW in .22 with the HP barrel. Out of 4 Daystates, my Wolverine R in .177 is always spot on when shooting it.

I may have to rethink the .30 for the AW and maybe go with a .25 slug barrel if I can swap between it and the Ghost. As said in other posts, there's not too much difference in FPE between the 2 calibers, but something about the .30 hitting the pest over the .25 seems to give just a bit more "whack!"

Alpha Wolfs are awesome. I love throwing that lever and feeling zero weight to it. And the stock, don't even get me started!

Different strokes for different folks, but Daystate 30 cal any model, electronic or analog, I am all about.

This does seem to be true and I don’t get it either. I just picked up a killer deal on a like new DW in .30. Sat there forever in the classifieds. I kind of get cost but this is shooting and let’s be real .30 ammo isn’t that crazy. I know someone earlier in this thread said they would just go 22lr if they needed 30 referencing CCI standard ammo. I have never seen CCI standard in my experience shoot anywhere near as well at longer 75-100 yards ranges as a quality .30 air rifle. To get that in 22 you are spending just as much per round. Maybe it’s the electronics ?? I already own an AW and have total confidence in it and used prices of the electro daystates are virtually the same as a used ghost. How on earth can I buy a used ghost when the price of a DW is the same and offers so many more features plus a way better trigger. I don’t get it. Guess it worked out for me though.

The biggest reason i like the ghost over the delta is the electronics. I can’t fix them if something goes wrong. The ghost i can repair myself and not spend a $100+ to send back to aoa like if i had a problem with the delta. Also i have a decent 6-8 oz trigger that has feel unlike the dw wich has no feel

I guess it depends on your experience an curiosity, I've spent my whole career in electronics, controls and robots, so to match that up with the airgun hobby to me is pretty cool - I love my Redwolfs but I tune myself- never have relied on the factory or AoA tuning, but I also have an FX Crown and a few RAWs that I love just as much
As for the 30 cal - most everyone that buys a 30 is using in competition not just plinking.
