Ghost 711mm barrel 22 caliber

Does anyone have any experience with the new 711mm barrels BRK is now offering? I have decided to make my ghost a 22 and give it a shot at N50 benchrest in the pellet class. I see fady has been using this barrel and dominating with it so it must have a proper twist for pellets..thanks

I have the Fady in 22. Its a 28" barrel with a 1:30 twist. So far doing a lot of testing looking for the right speeds and also trying to find out about the correct tensioning. I guy I know is in contact with Fady so hoping to hear soon.

Well, I've recently known two separate shooters that have bought the "Fady", thinking that it had the slow twist pellet barrel, but they both had the standard 1:17.7 twist LW poly barrel. One complained that he thought they were supposed to come with the slow twist 1:30 pellet barrel and was told that all the ones recently received in the USA are the standard 1:17.7, and no slow twist pellet barrels were available in the USA.
Maybe BRK/Daystate will speak up and let us know the rest of the story?

Thats a bummer, 1:30 is not great for out door shooting a 1:38 would be much better suited for benchrest

Hmmm....so what your saying is the new 1:17.7 twist barrels may shoot slugs and pellets pretty good though!? WHAT no fanfare/heads up from Brk?! Also....isn't a 1:38 a pretty slow twist rate? Even for a pellet barrel?! I can imagine the disappointment though if u bought that specific model expecting it to be a pellet barrel for sure.... Does not the regular HP ship with a slow 1:30 twist (for pellets only)?

genericly speaking what is the best twist rate for slugs and what the best rate for pellets?
seems like i read some companies are do a twist that okay for slugs and okay for pellets but not amazing for either one?

Pellets need little to almost no twist a 1:30 is considered good I know whereas slugs more prefer a 1:12 to say 1:16 ...not an expert myself. Some pellets will destabilize when shot outta slug barrels bc there moving too fast and the spin is too much and they go wonky. But often they shoot out of slug barrels just fine if u dial the speed down. My S510 (and many AA guns) run the Lothar Walther 1:17 and will shoot pellets and (light) slugs just fine. What lacks in them is the power to send slugs into the 900fps range.

I thought I was getting a 1:30 twist rate to shoot pellets at 50 yards. But I assumed that. I had no idea some (all) of the 711mm Ghost barrels were 1:17.7

Some barrels are the 1:30 you can tell if a 6B is printed on area of transfer port. I got a 1:30 25 cal its getting better but I have been polishing and whittling the rifling down. Measuring with pin gauges. I got a 22 cal but it is the 1:17 and it doesn't work for pellets. Some guys are having luck with the slugs but not me. Shooting the 22 reworked barrel this weekend. I'll let you know if I have success.

Thanks for the info! I just checked the twist rate the old fashion way by flagging a cleaning rod with masking tape and running a tight patch down the barrel to the point the flag does a partial or full rotation. I came up with 1:34 but I could tell my patch was slipping a little bit past the polygonal rifling. So, I assumed it was a 1:30 with the difference being my patch slipping.

Then I came back and saw your note and checked, and my barrel also has the 6B stamped near the transfer port.

Whew! Dodged a bullet there, as I have no interest in shooting slugs. AoA should be a little better at explaining the barrel options, as I had no idea the 711mm also came in 1:17.7 The 711mm barrel wasn't on the AoA website when I ordered it, so I made the purchase through 2 phone calls...the pre-order deposit, and then the payment when it came in.

But all is well! Will begin testing it with pellets at 50 yards next week.
