My Airgun weekend has been filled with success and failures. I wasn’t able to do any shooting last week but I found my Wolverine was holding air finally.
I began to fill the magazine and noticed a rogue piece of metal on a pellet that I loaded, I removed it thinking maybe that it could’ve been something from the pellet manufacture. No such luck. But I’m still grateful that I didn’t send it down the barrel.

Turns out it’s part of the catch paw inside the magazine, when the magazine is actuated, this part prevents it from spinning all the way to the end.
No big deal, I read that these magazines have a known issue.
Now let’s get down to business, I have an old shed on my property that I use it for my water softening system and some storage. I was retrieving a tool and I noticed this recent addition as well as some very unwelcome modification (chewing) to the electrical system.

Some squirrels have decided that the beautiful Sandy oak trees that I have on my property are not good enough for them and they prefer apartment living.
I set to work with my eviction notice in hand, my recently upgraded Sniper .22 things were definitely going my way as three of them will no longer be living indoors
.
I deemed this to be a problem area so I needed to keep an eye out later on in the day.
I repaired the damage to my shed and did some more work with my Sniper. I took some time and tried out heavier pellets, JTS 25.39. I also increased the regulator pressure to 150 bar. Much to my satisfaction it was shooting quite well, dime at 50y.
About 4:30 pm I set up getting ready to deal with whatever showed up, about 20 minutes later they did.
Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this but occasionally I will turn down the power adjuster on my Airgun to hit a branch in a tree to make a squirrel move. This has the effect of not scaring it off and hiding but potentially make it go to a better position for dispatch.
So now I’m faced with a squirrel that’s in a bad position for me to make an ethical shot and I need to make it move, I lower the power adjuster and make the shot. It hits the branch and the squirrel moves to a different but not any better position.
This is where things go horribly wrong.
I make several and by several I mean about six low power shots, nothing… just nothing.
Then, when I pulled back on the cocking lever one more time and I hear a puff of air… it’s a pellet jam just like a traffic jam they are stacked in the barrel like a can of instant biscuits…

….

.

They would not push out with a rod, game over need a new barrel. So I decided what the hell I’ll just try and drill them out. What’s the worst thing that could happen right?
Drillbit snaps off
.
I still get them all out, but in the process of hitting drilling I hit the other cobalt drill bit and some damage to the barrel occurred.
I cleaned it real good and did polish where I could feel it rough and it shoots okay but after about 20 shots, it starts sending flyers. Lead catching on the damage.
Need a new barrel
.
