I’m trying to figure out a good rifle (may already have it) for this task. 30 yards and in, typical suburb backyard.

Receiving the pellets are small rodents, small invasive lizards, paper, and steel targets.

Considerations. “Flat shooting” so adjustments are a minimum to be quick with a dispatch. Quiet as to not be bothersome when you shoot several tins and a weekend. Must have a magazine. PCP.

This comes up because I was shooting my CZ200 hunter a lot for this task. I recently switched to my Bullshark 177. Because it’s a bullpup and the scope is so far above the bore, I’ve really missed the CZ200 and the minimal scope adjustment/holds. The scope is not as low as I’d like on the CZ200 because I use the AA magazine system. I tired the Notos in the past, mine just arrived with no soul. It just doesn’t give me satisfaction shooting it like my other rifles have.

Right now I have been thinking a Katran Compact 177 with a Optisan 10x CP.

What do you say? I may have missed some details, please ask if they come up.

For a very quiet backyard rifle I claim my Sheridan MB2260. The Crosman 2260 and it are close relatives. The Sheridan just had a nicer wood stock and came with a metal breach. Mine is .22 cal. and accurately shots beyond 30 yards. Orv.

first thing that comes to my mind is the EVOL .30 cal?
it covers all that.
A tad much for small lizards inside of 30Yards😜 I would be recommending the cz200 or a .177 S510 sporter all day long for the task. Massive range of power (sub12 to 20FPE), flat shooting, quiet. I was in a similar situation 3/4 weeks back with my Ghost, took it out for some pesting...kept missing close shots on sparrows, and I was slinging Mrds @ 975 to do so...not ideal. So back in its case and out came the TX.

S400/410 Air Arms .177 caliber rifle, 12 ft-lb would work nicely. Accurate, inexpensive, low maintenance, low cost ammo, not too much power for backyard use.

It looks like everyone seems to have the same problem of shooting precisely at close range. The targeting systems in use today are not designed to accomplish precision accuracy at close range. Traditional theory of targeting cannot address the zone before the first zero position. I have developed and patented a new system that does improve close range targeting results. There are a variety of reasons why this is not on the market yet. I use "Shooters Calculator" to show general data points. I use a .177 CO2 Diana Chaser pistol for testing. Please pull up this calculator and enter the data and see for yourself.
17gr pellet weight
650fps
25yd zero
0" sight height
50yd chart range
1yd chart step
Hit "create graph" and view the chart data.
From 0-30yds the max variation of flight height of pellet from bore axis line is 5/8"
This would be from the end of barrel to the target.
This is a speed-based sight. PCP powered equipment @ 1100fps would achieve <1/4" variation.
I have had kids use this system very effectively at close range.

I look forward to the questions.

all kidding aside what about one of the little BRK guns?
I concur an Atomic XR in .22 my only caution is that they ruthlessly assert themselves afield and in the gun cabinet. Ghost, Pathfinder and Atomic XR am lucky to own this trio, if I had to pick just one? The Atomic with zero regrets, its just that sweet. It is deadly on small pest out to 50 yards in my hands… I have killed rats out to 40 yards with mine.

OK, so I thought a little bit harder about it and even though I kind of want to slap myself for saying this, here is a PCP compact rifle that I think checks some of the boxes you were wanting at least. It seems like a good 30 yard gun PCP, Magazine fed you can put a moderator on it. It’s got a nice Minnelli stock adjustable trigger and it’s only 12 foot pounds so lizards and squirrels at close range beware.

I would suggest a Crosman pumper with a threaded barrel adapter and a small moderator of your choice.
I have a 1322 that I built with a 24” barrel and flat top valve and piston and is moderated about as completely silent as anything can get. It’s incredible addicting to shoot and is PERFECT for pest eradication with neighbors nearby.
Any good pumper will do the same, no need to do any modifications as I did. Vary the amount of pumps according to the job needing done and you can have virtually completely silent pesting.

I use Shooters Calculator also and love it. All of my shooting is at 30 yds or less and the PBR is right on for my springers.

In field target we shoot from 10 yards to 55 yards. The 10-16ish yard kill zones are usually 3/8."

This is with 19fpe rifles and usually big scopes.

Short range precision is certainly possible with most airgun rigs, you've just gotta get some dope on paper for those close distances, make yourself a cheat sheet/dope chart for future reference, and then you're money.

For max of 30 yards on very small critters and paper targets....I'd have to agree with the previous suggestion of .177 in 600fps realm.
