Others Best compressor

My son needs a pump for his new Hatsan
Requirements are
1) reliable
2) less than $500

Any suggestions guys?
Yes sir! Also you will find lots of pump info on here, my suggestion is buy once cry once and get the Hill MK5. Very serviceable and built well, junk a$$ hose will last a few months then blow a crimp, it's to short anyways so get a grease hose made up 8inches or so longer and your off 2 the races. Do wish it came with some spare o-rings as well. Mine tops off my beasties weekly without issue, going on 1.5 years and 2 oring replacements.

I guess a gx cs2 is a good solid unit . Nothing fancy but fills your guns . Lots a guys use and like and don't break the bank to buy .. ( gx seems to be popular and solid in there models)

Direct store

GX CS2 Portable PCP Air Compressor for Air Gun Inflatable Rifle Hunting, GX PUMP CS2 Portable PCP Air Compressor, 4500Psi/30Mpa,Oil-Free,Powered by Car 12V DC or Home 110V AC with Adapter (Included), Paintball/Scuba Tank Compressor Pump with Extra Moisture-Oil Separator

Not there best sale ($245) but a sale no less ..🥴

For under $500 you’d probably do well with one of the GX pumps as mentioned. “The Best” will cost you quite a bit more.
the thread title is " Best compressor " but the restriction makes that an imposablilty, 500.00 will not get you on the same planet as the best.
no recomendation here got a buddy that is on his third 500.00 compressor in less than a year.two of thoses have been GX and one umerex.

My thoughts as well. Don't own a GX so I can't comment. But for every 2 people that rave about em one person will curse them. Yes proper maintenance can/will help. But no thanks I'm saving up and hand pumping till I can afford/justify the Hill Evo, or something similar. That would be my suggestion for Sydney. If you can justify dropping $400 this year and then 400 next year, etc to keep shooting I'd go and buy a (much) better one once. Maybe even go in on one with your son Sydney? Perfect excuse to grab a pcp for yourself? 😏 👍 We are no help at all😅

I totally agree with you. I got back into airguns big time around 2017/18. A couple of years before that I had gotten into Airsoft and then HPA airsoft rifles for play. So before getting into PCP airguns I was already filling up 3000 and 4500psi tanks for a couple of years. (As a side note - that definitely reduced the price of entry into PCP).

Over the time frame from say 2016 through late 2022 I can say I easily went through Alkin money on crappy (and what one would think would not be crappy due to cost) compressors. I’ve been through multiple Yong Hengs, a Shoebox F10 which had close to 500 hours on it when it was done, an Air Venturi 3or 4 stage, a GX CS3, and about 2-3 other compressors.

Finally in late 2022 before the price increase I bought an Alkin. Well justified as I expect it to last me a long time compared with all the other poor QC and low quality compressors I’ve gone through. The Alkin has been flawless for well over a year.

So, yeah, you want the Best - it doesn’t cost $500.

Can't go wrong with a new GX CS3 compressor. Reliable and should last a few years. Buy from Amazon and pay the extra for a two year warranty and when or I should say if it breaks they just pay you to buy another. Best of luck brother!

I vote you spend the money and get an Alkin. In the long run you will save money. I went thru the cheap compressor and booster route. Could have saved a lot of money and grief if I got the Alkin first. And you can always fill tanks for other shooters or divers to pay the compressor off faster.

Boosters! Kind of an outlier way to fill guns. I've looked into them as I have my own auto shop with a big ol 60gal air compressor, hard lines and reels all plumbed already. Was it an Alteros booster? If going that route they seem like the only viable one that I could find. With shipping I think they will run you what a small personal (good) compressor would cost. Anybody here running one of these?

Yes, I've had an Altaros booster a little over a year. Had a Shoebox F10 prior to that.

Xindaris was not a fan of his Altaros, but I've been quite pleased with mine. The difference in our opinions is probably because I'm perfectly happy to let it fill nice and slow.

I recently emptied one of my big air tanks, the intent was to do a visual and make sure it didn't have a bunch of water or corrosion. For background, I've owned this tank for 5-6years. It's only ever been filled with a booster, Shoebox for the first 4-5 years and the Altaros for the last 13-14 months. Upon inspection last week it was bone dry, and no sign of corrosion or even discoloration. The inside off the tank was shiny aluminum.

Boosters CAN work and work quite well, for the patient ones amongst us. Let em fill nice and slow and the air doesn't get hot. Cooler air makes it easier to separate the water vapor before it ever even gets to the booster. Get impatient and try to fill tanks fast with a booster and you've got hot, wet air, and the first stage shop compressor dies prematurely from being overworked and overheated.

(The above is not a claim that the Altaros Booster is "the best" but rather responding to danmans question if anybody had an Altaros booster).

I appreciate the response! I am stuck on the Alteros booster route or Hill personal compressor for sure. I give the edge to the Hill though as I prefer to fill guns directly, and maybe a 2 or 3 liter bottle from 2500 to 3600psi once a week so not heavy use. A little more portable too. How much, can I ask did shipping it over cost you @Franklink?

Completely agree! I am in the process of getting my brother into a pcp rifle and am much more financially set then him if you will. I would buy the equipment and charge him a small fee to fill once he's sick of hand pumping it😅

An Altros is very slow and hard on a compressor but what bothered me the most was when mine had a catastrophic failure during the warranty period and they refused to fix it. They sent me a few small parts that didn’t fix it and refused to allow me to send it back to them for repair. Save your money and buy an Alkin. The Alkin will last you many years if you take care of it.
