I had to fill my 9L tank today as I was down to 3000psi and I figured that instead of doing it at home, I would use my old Yong Heng that I keep at work. I had repaired/replaced the entire cylinder head a couple of years ago and that thing has been aces ever since. I switched to using a 5 gallon bucket of distilled water with water wetter in it a year ago and that works surprisingly better than cold tap water some how. My temp now, doesn't keep spiking up anymore, it just levels off to a temp that is lower than my old shut down cut-off temp was. The unit stills fills fast too. I can bring my 9L tank @3000psi, up to 4200psi in 13 minutes. Not too shabby to me. I usually am just filling a 2.17L tank from 2800 to 4300, and that takes less than 5 minutes. I keep thinking that I will replace them with something quieter but they just keep going. It would seem that once you work through whatever problem they show up with, they just keep running. I still have a brand new one, in an unopened box, that I got a couple of years ago to replace the next one that died, lol. I think that they're 8 years old at this point, they take up a lot of room, are loud, and kind of a pain, but if they keep getting the job done, they stay. I don't see a tenth of the posts that I use to see about YH's and I figured that was because people moved on or up, but maybe it's because theirs aren't breaking down either.

I love my fancy Hill Evo for what I need it for, but it would die a quick death filling 9L tanks frequently for sure & be much slower at it.
I thought long and hard about going down the YH route (they even have a helpful facebook owners group😆) but i went the convenience route with the Hill in the end. I hope to get a 2 or 3 liter bottle some day, esp if I get a .30cal but that would be as big as I'd fill on an air cooled unit.
Are new parts still in circulation for these old YH units @Pumacarl?

I have the Hill EVO 310 and fill my 75 CU/FT tank all the time, but I also baby the compressor, when it stops cool down and then starts again, I let it go through 2 cool downs until I pause and let it cool way down then restart. bit it works like a champ, just passed 37 hours of run time

As far as I know they are, I haven't bought any parts in years though. I bought the extra one two years ago because it was a good deal and I didn't want to buy more parts. My plan is to just throw that into the rotation at some point and cannibalize the others untill there is one, and then none.

Well thats reassuring! Good to know i just crossed 3 hours with mine after one year of ownership lol😆
I shoot almost nil in winter and I use the hand pump here and there still when I have time.

I changed the red oil at 25 hours because it had some discoloration. It was easy to do, and I might start changing at 10 to 15 hours just to keep it fresh. But overall, super happy with this compressor; it fills fast enough for me.

Similar Yong Henger experience here.

I bought one in Sept of 2022 and seems like I paid about $260-270. I found a post from this most recent December where I had tallied up the hours and had 26.25 on it at that time. I'm probably nearly 30hrs now. The only thing I've replaced on it was the gauge, at some point it broke and I just plugged that hole with a bolt since I have gauges on all my fill stations and tanks.

Around the time I bought it, there were lots of people talking about how they don't last long, disposable, etc. So I bought an Altaros booster 6-8 months after the Yong Heng, fully expecting the Yong Heng to kick the proverbial 5 gallon bucket any time. They're both still running.

I still utilize a couple 3000 psi SCUBA tanks in my filling routing, an 80cf is part of the cascade, and a little 19cf is my buddy bottle for non-regulated/low-fill guns. So the Yong is mostly used to bring them back up to 3100psi, and the Altaros is mostly used for topping the SCBA's back up to 4500. The most recent fill I can remember data from was with the 19cf. It was down to 1700psi and the Yong brought it back up to 3100 in about 20 minutes.

Generally, I've been pleasantly surprised with the Yong Heng. I'd say that the key to keeping em chugging along is temps and fill times. I usually try to limit my fill times to 20minutes, occassionally I'll let it go to 22 minutes, and have a couple 25 minute runs. But once it gets to 18-20 minutes I'm watching that thermostat like a hawk. My personal rule is 50C. Once I get that hot, it's shut'r down time.

Biggest downsides to the YH are the noise and the need for babysitting while running (opening blow-out valves and just generally keeping an eye on pressures.)

The Yong Heng, if treated well, is a refreshing little bit of value in a generally outrageously high-cost hobby.
