EVOL the new EVOL .22

i have a box of the NSA .217 24.8 gr slugs but really had no plan to get intto slugs.
so are the 20.2 better choise then the 24.8?
My advice is to steer clear of NSA for the Evol. I love NSA slugs and the brand, so I tried every weight that made sense, head sizes and tunes. Nothing worked past 50 yards.

For the 15", I'd stick to 21-23 grain, 217 head size. On a reg tune from 2k-2150 try 21 h&n, 21 javelin, or rmr 22 hybrids.

If you bump the reg from 2150- 2300 , h&n 23 as well as all the others should shoot well EXCEPT the 21 h&ns , they don't seem to like high reg pressures.

Interested in seeing a group with the 20.2 nsa or howler slugs. I heard it’s an absolute tack driver with those.
Dana is the only one I've seen them work for lol. I really wanted the 20.2s to be my slug but they just would not shoot. 23 grain were horrible and the 24.7 even in 217 head size were so tight going in I felt like they wouldn't get out the barrel...and in fact, I watched one TUMBLE out of my barrel at 80 yards.

Keep with pellets. Lol

I tried a ton of slugs at different speeds. At 50 there was some great promise, but nothing better than pellets. At 100 yards the pellets out shot the slugs clearly. There is the twist rate, barrel length, as well as the throat that will effect a slug.

Might as well wait for the slug barrels to come out.

well i am first and formost very unipress with the NSA slugs.
these are the NSA .217 24.8 gr slugs.
at 50+ yards

here are the jsb 25.4 gr at the same 50 yards two magsView attachment 3570
Yea, from the picture it looks like you have some keyholing. At 100 yards you'd be lucky to hit the box. Its not the slugs, its the slug match to the gun. For whatever reason our tj barrels do not tend to like nsa slugs. Other than Dana, who somehow gets his Evols to shoot 20.2s very well. I might be a little jealous 😁

My fx guns were 1:24 twist, which is much slower than the Evol and it loved nsa slugs of all weights at all sorts of tunes and speeds. They also had a bit more barrel length(500mm)which definitely helps.

The Evol can shoot slugs, 100% . But I believe the alloy you use is an important factor. Soft lead slugs with a just snug fit seem to work best.

I'm going to setup one of these days and shoot some 100 yard slug groups with a few different slugs and post them up here. Maybe it will give an idea of what I see from my gun, and what I consider accurate.

i have some 23 gr zan's i might try but giving it some though i just cannt see a reason at this point for me to chase slugs.
i was accurecy first and formost upove all else and for pesting i want it at 20 to 50 yards.
i cant see the added cost of a slug when you can stack pellets.
maybe for bench rest at 100 yards i woud want to rethink things but i just cant see a benefit for pesting?

@Bladebum i was thinking about the rmr 22 hybrids but if they are no better then pellets what is the benefit?

I would say for your needs, yea pellets make the most sense definitely. Slugs are for longer range windy conditions hunting and pesting, it doesn't sound like that will be something you will need. A really good compromise are the jts 22.07 pellets, phenomenal pellet.

As far as the hybrids, honestly it's one of the best shooting slugs out of my evol on multiple tunes. They shoot good from 880-900, they shoot phenomenal as the speed goes up until about 950. BUT, the only reason I dont shoot them is because they are FILTHY. Even after cleaning they turn my fingers black and lead shavings all over. That dirtyness then leads up my barrel quickly. So other than that, if you could give them a really good cleaning and a good lube, they work great.

where did you get yours? I been waiting since last march!
are you asking about the EVOL?
i got it from AoA but i have been waiting for ever to get it just takes time. well worth the wait IMHO.
i know they got a few in but i dont know what they do or do not have because they had other orfers to fill.
just give them a jinge and ask.

Thank you, I just contacted them last week and they knew nothing. I am on the pre order list and was to be contacted when they are in stock.

i would contact Darren because when i called the see when or if they had shipped mine ( Darren said they had it in hand a day or two before ) the guy i spoke with said they did not have any in stock. i told him Darren had already told me they had mine and he looked at my acount and said oh yea i see.
so with the holliday they may not have had a chance to get them in inventory yet? i dont know but i would ask.
