Here's a good HAM reporting article about the new barrel manufacturer, Sub-MOA. This is a new business venture by Tom Costan and Tracy Skipper to provide super-accurate machined barrels at specialized twist rates. The airgun industry, benchrest competitor, and shooting sports enthusiasts alike have been needing this technology to get to the next level of chasing accuracy.

They are working on them, and I keep pestering them for one. Would love to make the Paradigm a slug blaster. I was talking with the guys there and they did state that the bore diameter is .218! That means custom slugs will be made in house
yes i was thinking my .30 cal EVOL might make a slug gun? i have not had the best luck with slugs out of any of my EVOLs i was even thinking my 15" EVOL.22 would be a good slug gun? just have to see how these do.

I would think they would make a heck of a slug gun!

The ergonomics of the rifles are superb all around. I know Tom and the American Air Arms is a small USA company, but I hate waiting. Wish there was more of a shop helping get products out into the wild for people to use and play with. These are great rifles and it is sad seeing that they are so hard to get.

I'm thinking of going the .223 slug route that Tom has been developing barrel's and a twist rate for.. Just imagine the long range steel you'd be ringing with that Paradigm sporting an optimized twist rate barrel loaded with a 36 or higher grain weight slug!

why the .223 as oposed to a .218 with many more options for slugs? or will the .223 have as many option or have as many?
and the .223 what my thoughts but then i was looking at avalible slugs and start to qusetion that.

The 223 should be better longer range and be a better round over all. The only issue is that NSA will be the only company making them. Which isn't a bad thing, but there could be an issue with keeping ammo stocked. But if NSA can keep up with demand there shouldn't be an issue
I noticed the other day that AoA is starting to stock the Altaros slugs in .223 now. I can only imagine this is for the release of the new competition EVOLs.

Exactly what @Woogie_man said, plus a few other things... to support Tom's development of the caliber/barrels, with the slightly bigger bore there's more power to sling the heavier lead faster and efficiently, there's a lot of aftermarket swage dies, sizing dies, and the like that are available in .22 caliber, and swaging a long hollow rebated boat tail with a spire point around .500" long is shown to have superb bc and sub-moa long range accuracy. Oh, and I like experimenting.

With Altaros, I think that it is more so because of the popularity of the Huben GK1. Nick Nielsen swages the 36 grain slug for Tom and us to use in the new 223, and has been a great slug supplier over the years so I don't see availability becoming an issue.

Possible - but these are in 59gr and 67gr. The weight seems more in line with a much more powerful airgun.

There's power in the Evol to be had. The 18" barrel is so short that that is where the limitation is, for the most part. They do fine as a pellet shooter, as they were designed. At this 18" barrel length the Evol is comparable to all airguns with the same length barrel. The new Evol's are where that's at as far as slug shooting goes, and with a longer barrel to make more power.

As far as the grain weights and lengths of those Altaros, I'm not gong to single load slugs in anything but in a single loading breech gun. It's a contentious subject that guy's must single load abnormally long slugs to obtain accuracy in a magazine-fed gun. Me keeping them around the .500" length with a good balanced center of gravity, and a deep hollow core to keep rotational forces to the outside, should make for a superior flying slug for long range silhouette and target, and can energy dump for hunting medium sized small game.

with the new valve and better efficiency i would rather sacrifice shots for the longer barrel.
i have a 18" barrel on my .30 and first chance i get that will be a 15" even if it cost shot count.
has my guns are not just bench guns i dont care for the longer barrels with is why i think Tom should offer a bull pup EVOL : )
the best of both.

You'll not really "loose" shot count, because the smaller gun holds less air. Both are efficient and it depends on how you set them up to shoot what lead projectile. I have both barrel lengths in the 30 caliber Evol. Both have different sized cylinders that compliment the barrels for shot count. The bigger Evol can be de-tuned to get way more shots per fill if need be. Both my guns are modified to run as hot as they can given their barrel lengths, with porting and valve work, additional hammer weight in the one, plenum extensions, polished bores, etc. The Magnon has less mods, and with slightly less regulator pressure. That said, they both get a couple of full magazine shots per fill. Turned down and de-tuned for efficiency, they'd easily get three magazines worth of shots or more. The short 15" barrel shoots JSB' Heavy 50.15 grainer's at the low end of pellet speeds (825 fps), and the 18" barrel shoots them hot (955 fps).
