8 attendees at the UFT match @ Phoenix Rod and Gun Club yesterday. The weather forecast called for some rain and that seems to have deterred more than a couple potential shooters. Although I was told they had excellent conditions...a few very light little sprinkles during the match, but otherwise overcast, almost no wind, and temps in the low 70s, per NWS. As was reported to me, the rains held off just long enough for everyone to meet back under the roof of the small bore range for the post match meeting and announcing of winners.

Those 8 shooters chose to shoot in a handful of classes. This format allows anyone with an airgun to show up and shoot. The range of power levels went from pellets at sub 20fpe (a la AAFTA), up to slugs in the 75fpe realm.

This is a new course configuration for UFT at PRGC , and here is the breakdown of the Extreme Troyer Factor.

Yes, a very difficult course, 3 targets with T's of at least 50, and 10 targets with T's between 40 and 49. In other words, don't plan on clearing this course.

(For the benefit of the newer names here in the field target section, the Extreme Troyer factor is an extension of Brad Troyers course comparison tool for AAFTA/sub 20fpe matches. The basis of which is the same premise, distance divided by kill zone size, but with a difficulty factor of 1.125 being applied for targets from 51-75 yards, and a difficulty factor of 1.25 being applied to targets from 76-100 yards. More info can be found here, if interested... Extreme Troyer Factor )

And here is the boxscore...

Some of what I gathered, from briefly texting and talking with some of the shooters, and past knowledge...
  • Kent, winner of the Full Monty Pellet class runs those MRDS at much slower speeds than most, and it seems he's got something figured out there.
  • Scott told me this is the first time he's had his high power gun out in 6 months. Didn't do too shabbily either.
  • Paul had the gumption to take on the Full Monty with a sub 20 fpe gun!!! That's my kind of making it a serious challenge right there.
  • Steve M was probably the farthest distance traveled to attend, coming all the way down from Flagstaff.
  • Peykan told me his Panthera LOVES those NSA 31.2grain slugs @ 1020ish. With how cost-friendly Nick @ Nielsen retails his slugs....I'm a huge fan of his projectiles, and choose to shoot them over any other slug, as long as the barrel/gun likes them as well as Peykans. Only missing 1 target on this course is pretty impressive.
  • Great shooting to everyone!

Thanks to Ben and Paul for putting the course together, and Jesse for the paint job on the targets, and to anyone else who helped that I'm unaware of. And, as always, we want to express appreciation to Phoenix Rod and Gun Club for sharing their facilities with us.

Hope to see you all at the next one.
