Ghost Slug barrels are now available

I'm cautiously optimistic about BRK's newly marketed "slug barrels." I truly hope they have found success in the mystery of why slugs are so picky about the barrels they're being fired from. BRK certainly has deeper pockets to throw at the problem than I do.
I have bought a decent selection of slugs from 20 to 30gr in .217 and .218 to run through it from pretty much every manufacturer. I collected Jsb, H&N, NSA, Wildman, and Patriot, mostly on sale. If none of them shoot well I'd be expecting a replacement barrel that's for sure. I shot slugs outta my Stock 👻 last week and it 1 holed 3 slugs in a row outta 5 VERY close to the bull @40Y. Its 100% not repeatable though. The potential is there for sure....quality gun, correct Speed, good Ammo, so what's the problem? Twist rate (1:30) with a beefy choke is 100% the problem. Has Brk said if the new slug barrels are choked, their feeding us with a baby spoon here🧐

It seems odd though i think pellet gun barrel mfg’ just aren’t trying. I mean how long have powder burners been pushing lead slugs down a barrel? And then you look at the tiapan i just bought not too long ago it will make a 1 hole group @50 and shoot 1”-1&1/4” groups at 100 right out of the box without much fiddling
thats pushing slugs?

and I agree powder burners have been pushing lead slugs down a barrels with great acuracy.
I have to question if the issue isnt deeper.
I meen a powder burner isnt lacking power and can that be said for most air riffles?
also the powder burners are developing power as in now is that true for air rifles?
I a larger percintage of barrel is use to gain speed as compared to our beloved powder burners then not sure the same recipe would be actable for the design?
I wudnder just how much of this all come to play?
also how much drag is coming into play with airgun slugs?

This wasn't your first slug attempt. You had some failed slug barrels prior.

I'm not saying barrels that shoot slugs well don't exist, just that they've been more rare than barrels that shoot pellets well. At least in all my experimenting.

Oh yes ive had a few disappointments with barrels for slugs but i think its lothar walther to blame making barrels the same as they did in the 50’s for airguns. I was very surprised at how soft some of them are. I truly believe that like tiapan with cz it can be done consistently if you really want to. I can’t wait-to see how the brk and sub moa slug barrels work out!

Yea 25 cal 34.9 gr nsa slugs @ 970 fps out of my tiapan.

I have a hard time being too critical of Lothar Walther. They've supplied me a whole bunch of supreme-precision-fueled fun.

I am 100% in agreement about being excited to see slug results from the new BRK "slug barrels" (that are probably Lothars 😁) and SubMoa.

This one that I'm referencing had the standard LW twist rate....and a choke.

On that whole choke/no choke concept.....completely different barrel and gun situation than the good slug barrel I mentioned

Unfortunately, much of the commonly accepted "facts" about slugs in our industry simply don't hold water.

Lots and lots and lots of barrels (and money) later, I'm of the firm opinion that a barrel either likes a particular slug, or it does not. Much the same way a particular barrel prefers a particular pellet. The bummer, and the hard reality check, is that barrels that prefer a particular slug are much fewer and farther between than a barrel that does well with it's preferred pellet.
This is our opinion also, and also born out of even more testing and even more money at a manufactures level. You don't have to think about if for long though, is it reasonable to expect a pellet and a slug with the same length and same weight to perform the same, just because a chart says they should? we have seen one barrel working well for both, choke barrels working with slugs and lighter slugs far out performing heavy slugs. Then in a different gun with a different setup the opposite to be true. We have finally narrowed our results to a single barrel in 28" that works with slugs, though again with no formular as all are different specs in different calibers. On the way we have vastly improved pellet performance in a different barrel to the point that, frustratingly, pellets are matching slugs again, but that's just a side benefit. BRK and Daystate rifle now can shot slugs and do it without hired-in social media gurus spinning it.

That definitely is a lot of testing and time spent on a bench. Would you say the new 28inch barrels work with a range of slug weights then? Or are more suited to specific (heavy or light) slugs only? Specifically in .22. Thanks.
