Ghost Slow first shot

Ghost .22cal, 28" barrel, 122bar reg, 25.39gr Redesigned Shallow skirt pellets. That doesn't really matter though. I was just wondering if other people experienced a slow first shot with their Ghosts after they've sat for a while. Maybe I shouldn't have posted the shot string.

Sorry, didn't pay attention to the subforum or your tag :p. I agree with @Billm, I've read about this issue with many different guns, notably FX ones. Some have posted the fix but I can't remember what they are.

The first shot on both of my Ghosts is usually 20 to 25 FPS slower than the second or third shot. I up my power wheel by 2-3 for at least the first shot that will usually always put the velocity where I want it and for my follow-up shots, I drop it back down 2-3. I have been doing this for quite a while now and it seems to work pretty well.

I thought I would check this today after it's been sitting for about a week and it's definitely slow the first shot. I didn't check for accuracy, only velocity. I'm guessing this is normal?

I have experienced that in my Katran HP's . I need to waste the first trigger pull before loading the chamber . Usually this is after they set for several days. My other three do not seem to do so.

Stiction of the valve stem.

The severity depends a lot on how you have it tuned.

The slow cold shot effect is ultimately why I moved away from using the Ghost .20 as a field target gun. With the settings (reg/hammer tension/hammer spring) I need for it to do what I want it to with the primary projectiles (at 29 and 35fpe), it would require 6+ shots at the 19fpe power wheel settings for the power to slowly rise to where it should be for the trajectory curve to map out correctly. Not convenient for a ft match.

Generally speaking, the best way to minimize the slow cold shot effect seems to be to tune it in a way that uses the upper 1/4th of the power wheel (15+). When I really experience the slow cold effect is when I'm using the lower end of the power wheel settings (less than 5).

Man oh man you are convincing me I need a better chronograph😮‍💨 its very hard to capture this and i've been wanting to do this for over a year now, and share my results. Definitely on my list.
Both my Ghost and TX200 suffer poor first shot accuracy and dont get out pesting much vs my S510.
What reg pressure was it set at when you got your ghost?... the Huma reg thrives @ 140+ Bar.
I get that your after consistent speeds here, but do set up a paper @50Y (or wherever your pests are usually at) and see what she does after sitting. My Ghost sprays the first few mrds usually then settles down and smashes everything I aim at.

Anyways, your ghost is fairly new yet, i'd run a few tins through her and keep testing. I take nothing serious (unless accuracy is trash!) till I've ran 500+ pellets through a gun. @Franklink (or others) have you ever tried reg butter or some other 'magic' lube on your ghosts reg and seen improvements?

Garmin chronograph. I like it. The reg was around 140bar on arrival and is sitting about 122 bar here in the house after my adjustments. PW at 5. Not sure what spring is installed, but it is easy to cycle. I have a spring kit that I bought for the .25cal. I used one spring but can't remember which one off the top of my head.

I'll be getting out more in July (holidays) and will get some decent testing then. I have the Daystate barrel tuner to try once I get this rifle tuned where it's shooting good at 50 yards. Some people believe they work and others don't. I'll find out if it works or not.

I'm getting close to 1 tin of pellets through it and will shoot through the second (likely) before I start sorting them by head size to see if it makes a difference. Not sure yet how long I can shoot this before the barrel needs cleaning. I washed 5 tins of pellets and lubed them with silicone. I have a single shot loader and have been using that for my testing for consistency. I did use the mag on my last chrono test but I doubt that had any effect on velocity.

Haven't tried any reg voodoo concoctions. If I find turning up the power wheel a couple of notches fixes the first shot slowness, that's all I need to make me happy.

With my Ghost Carbine. At home on the bench? I simply blow off (dry fire) at least thrice. Before going after pest? I do the same, case the gun and head towards my permissions… It’s been a non issue for me.
My permission is my back yard. I'm not into dry firing in the house although it could be done if I make something to contain the muzzle blast.

It's not the regulator causing the slow cold shots. But rather the valve stem orings sort of "taking a set" against the walls of the valve. And yes, I experimented with some special lubes in what is often called the atmospheric chamber of the valve. Can't remember right now if it was PTFE or PFPE, that I tried, but it didn't make any marked difference.
