Others Recommend me an air source

Received my new GX CS3-I.
No rifle for a week or two.
Can I start up the compressor with nothing attached to check it runs, only for a moment or two.
I did it the other way around😅 Got my first pcp with no hand pump for a few weeks lol. Shot a few rounds, fiddled with scope and waited... ever so patiently. You can buy an inline fitting to cap the line and run compressor up to operating pressure and verify no leaks👍

My GX came with a test plug.
Even better! I couldn't live without knowing its leaking free, My Hill Evo runs a digital and analog gauge and after a fill now I can watch as it cools off after a fill if there is a line leak...while drinking my coffee. I remember when my Hill hand pump blew a crimp....I thought I could out pump the leak🤣 Soooo not recommended. After that I'd prefer a beer not a coffee lol.

That was not in the package.
Looks like I'll have to source my own.
Any recommendations?
What I have is more of my “own design” but GX has a filter system that seems to work well from what I’ve read. You can purchase it on Amazon too.

Manual says it has a built-in filter.
But diagram shows nothing and Manual makes no mention of it. All I see is a hose sticking out the bottom of the side.

Along with buying my first PCP.
I need an air source. No hand pumps.
So air compressor or scuba tank?
On a tight budget. I see tanks on Craigslist for about $100 and the local dive shop fills for $5
Also see on Amazon compressors for under $300 that are rated to 4500 psi.
Any input would be great.
@Hylander
For $5 per fill, I suggest buying a carbon fiber (CF) SCBA tank that is within the 15 year window for DOT certification. I think within 10 years from the date of manufacture is better and within 4 years of the date of manufacture is best (make sure it’s a DOT certified SCBA tank). I started with a new CF SCBA tank for the first year. Then I got a small compressor that fill guns directly, and finally a heavy duty compresor that fills SCBA tanks. I have not torn up a compressor and this is my 5th year consistently dealing with PCPs.

After a year of shooting PCPs has passed, I think you’ll know if you want to stick with the hobby and grab a compressor. That way you can focus on learning your gun(s) and won’t be preoccupied or daunted with learning or learning to repair PCPs and a compressor.

There should be a small cotton filter in the guage block. Target Forge has replacement filters, probably available on Amazon as well. Remove the female foster fitting with a 14mm wrench:

Both of my CS-2 compressors came with an additional, larger cotton filter assembly. If you want one, PM me your address & I'll send it to you. Might have to dig around for a source of the bigger filters, didn't see them on the Target Forge or GX websites.

I'm now using an additional filter made by Altaros:

In my semi-educated opinion, the best moisture mitigation strategy is:
- Keep the rifle above the compressor when filling.
- Open the bleed valve mid-run on longer fills to vent the liquid moisture
