Along with buying my first PCP.
I need an air source. No hand pumps.
So air compressor or scuba tank?
On a tight budget. I see tanks on Craigslist for about $100 and the local dive shop fills for $5
Also see on Amazon compressors for under $300 that are rated to 4500 psi.
Any input would be great.

Can recommend the GX CS2 if you go compressor. Have been using one hard for over a year now. If needed, replacement parts are available from Target Forge. Also many excellent YT videos on maintenance & repair

That said, if I could get $5 fills at a location convenient to me, that's what I'd do. You'll want to be certain of a few things, though, before buying a tank:

- If used, how old is it & when was it last hydro tested? No commercial dive or paintball shop will fill it if the last hydro test was more than 5 years ago or if the tank is more than 15 years old (it's the law).
- Find out if the shop can/will fill to 4500 psi (the limit for most SCBA tanks). Some can only fill to 3000, or refuse to fill past a certain pressure even if their compressor is rated for it. Also ask if they have a size limit for tanks. One paintball shop I called years ago would only fill the small tanks on paintball guns, not the big tanks airgunners typically use.

Im a fan of the Tuxing TXEDM042. GX are good but so slow. I can fill a 9L Tank in about 75 minutes with the Tuxing. It also has dual filters for really dry air.

My backup is a Yong Heng single lung.

If you can work it into your budget I'd advise a compressor AND a used SCBA (not scuba) tank. Having both will give you more flexibility than only having either one. For the longest time a seller on Ebay was doing two 30 minute tanks for $100. Don't know if it's still happening.

My inexpensive compressor works very well. I too looked into used SCBA tanks and couldn’t justify all of the expenditure for valves & hoses to accompany. My cheap, Chinese made compressor cost me about half of what I figured I would spend on a tank setup. Also I dont have to go to town to get a fill.

I went the cheap route with my first HPA compressor and bought a $200 shoebox compressor off of Amazon. It was fine with my Beeman ,177 underlever and even my Barra 250z. It was very noisy and slow, but worked. When I added rifles with larger bottles like the Ghost and the Sonoran (700cc), even with 2 step filling ( fill, rest/cool, fill) it died. The company sent me a new cylinder and it’s sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. With a lot of input from Hamsters, I bought a GX CS4 with GX filter and I love it. Relatively fast, quiet and I use it on average 4-5 times per day. Next filling purchase will be a large tank/bottle.

I went through a “first” HPAC and knew that I simply couldn’t afford to go through multiple “disposables”… I simply looked at what I had in my PCP safe, did the math and my choice was clearer. Your personal experience speaks volumes…🙏

I'll probably go with a GX, good recommendations from the guys here.
Just can not afford something more than $300
Apologies if u already said it but....what pcp did you end up buying? That makes a difference too for what air source route you should go. I'd go for the personal compressor (get the best you can afford) and shortly after once the money situation recovers grab a decent little moisture filter too.... Protect that new 'investment'! The tank route is no cheaper usually and often just more hassle.

I'm looking at either the Marauder or Zelos so far.
Leaning towards the Zelos.
