EVOL New Easy Cocking Hammer System For EVOL!

Last edited:
Seems to me that the “hard to cock” issue or non issue, was first voiced by actual Evol users in comparison to? For @CTAirgunner to equate the feel of those other compared PCP levers as “toy like”? Is simply uncalled for and untrue. They just happen to be smoother in their cocking cycle. Toy like? Yeah right!
well i am not sure who used the phrase toy like first but i mentioned in another thread i said the AAA was the mearsure by wich others should be judged. the EVOL i have has shown me, other guns feel toy like.

i got the BRK Conpect for my wife and though i feel it is a very nice gun and one i would recomend it, it is not in the same league as the EVOL guns.

@MountainSportAirguns said it spot on.

Well, to be 100% honest, unless you've had the ability to hold an evol and shoot an evol you really don't have any true experience to be able to say if something were to feel toy like in comparison.

I have. I have shot the ghost, I have shot the atomic, I have shot impacts, agt, etc. So again... I do have the experience.

I never said they were not nice. In fact the members here who I have shot with will tell you I said I was thoroughly impressed with what they brought to shoot.

However. In comparison to an evol, that's the best way I can describe them. The evol cocking is actually incredibly smooth, not janky, notchy, etc. Just requires a little , tiny, bit of muscle. So until there's experience behind the comment ..... well I think I explained enough. 🤷‍♂️

Happy shootin!

All props to the Evols… But when Dana did his infamous torture test of the Evol Mini, Atomic XR and FX Dreamline? Some have forgotten that the Atomic survived, functioned and shot after the test. So definitely not “toy like”.

Nobody forgot that, I actually have brought that up when recommending them to others who needed something the brk lineup offered.

What I did say was that in comparison feel wise they do feel "toy like" . I also did not mention brk specifically so why call brk out specifically yourself? Because you took it personal. Or wanted a chance to say " Ha not today Satan!"

I would own a brk, or an agt again, there's members here I converse with daily who know this. They just don't even come close to feeling like an Evol. In my opinion. I like what I like.

Call out BRK specifically? Because its what I own… Didn’t compare them to the Evols, just said they’re not toys, or toy like.

As for your quote above? Yes, to the latter,😈 as you are so prescient… as you well know, I take this hobby so “seriously”🤓. OK, so toy like it is for anything not Evols… I apologize if you got worked or triggered. Someday I will hold and shoot an Evol and be schooled.

I didn't Luis but you did.. This all started as a reply to someone who was discussing the matter. I tried to provide the most accurate statement I could as I am one of the few people that have shot new and old evols. I support the change, regardless of whether or not I felt it needed to be changed.

You're the one who came out telling someone their opinion is not true, which you can't tell someone their opinion isn't true, it's not yours lol. The general consensus within the thread is apparent.

Happy shooting Luis. Enjoy the stew.

Yes, I, I, I… Same to you happy holidays and shooting to you and Peri… As for the “stew” do you have a camera in my kitchen?🙀 Because its turkey soup thats cooking. Got to use up the carcass…🤓

As far as using the new cocking hammer system goes and my choice of words. I am going to recant the term toy like after some thought.

I do not find that other airguns feel as robust as the current evol does, not even remotely close. So when describing the new cocking system after using it for a few tins of ammo, it is lighter, just as smooth as previous versions but with less effort to pull, and does not feel any less robust than the current version. As @pan60 said, and I agree, Evols should be the standard at which other airguns are measured against.

To any that it upset, it wasn't my intent, I happen to own an air rifle that I would describe this way, from here on out I will describe it in a different manner.

I feel the toy like analogy was only meant to describe a level of effort, not disparage any particular brand of airgun.

Here’s my real world opinion on cocking effort. You’ve got the electronic rifles which basically have no effort because there is no spring. You’ve got very light cocking like some FX and BRK. You’ve got medium effort guns like the Evol. You’ve got much higher effort like some of the high power AEA.

You get used to them all. I’ve never found the cocking effort on the EVOL to be very heavy just a little more effort than most. But the gun doesn’t ping nor does it hammer bounce.

Robustness is in the eye of the beholder and while it may be a good choice of words there are no standards or metrics to measure such rifles ... BUT ... I do understand your intent. I own and shoot an Atomic and find them to be very robust much more so than many of the brand "#X" rifles that lose their POI on the tiniest of bumps. Having never owned an AAA I can't draw any personal comparisons but I do enjoy reading your adventures with them. I would very much like to spend some time with a dedicated BR gun and put it through its paces punching paper. I gather that even though the AAA can do well from a bench that their main design intent was for field use?

Hey man, hope all is well with you, it has been a while :) You are correct, the AAA was designed as a hunting solution. However, that is all about to change with dedicated Benchrest and PRS/NRL22 platforms soon to be released.

Yes the AAA line up was designed with field/hunting in mind and competition second , its pretty awesome that a rifle as rugged as it is that was not intended for the bench can be competitive on the bench against dedicated bench setups. It speaks a lot to the design of the rifle in my opinion. I literally have shot in the last two years , using my own money to do so, almost every major airgun manufacturer there is and that is where my opinion on things stems from. I shot @Brawler1588 Atomic through a prototype day/night scope and was immediately impressed after walking my know your limits target.

But with that said like @One-Shot said, the additions to the A A A line up are going to make a lot of people happy with a lot of serious , purpose built competition rifles.

Another update. I stated that the new system was not producing enough energy for higher power 30 caliber setups, that is above 80fpe.

This was a late surprise which I did not see in testing and according to the math our new system should have provided about 5% more than the original.

Problem found, an error in the callout for the spring design which caused the spring to be manufactured with the incorrect rate.

Problem fixed, we will have new springs to test in a few days. These should match the calculations which have been proven early on during r&d.

On the brightside, there will be one more spring option :)

Force reduction for a 80 fpe 30 caliber is 38.5%
Force reduction for a 30 fpe mini 22 caliber is 48%

Overall, not as good as a new HPS but the more linear feel makes the cocking effort reduction seem way more than actual measured 38-48%

Tom any dates for the reduced effort hammer system or when the Tools may be back in stock? Also does anyone know what the factory Reg set pressure is for a 15” .22, seem to remember aprx. 1900 lbs in one of Tom’s videos but Dairyboy mentioned 1600 I believe? Thx
