.22 Just Bought JSB 18.13 .22 Pellets And NSA Slugs at Walmart.

I just bought 3 tins of JSB .22 pellets at Walmart. They were $12.99 per tin. They also had Hades and both in .177. I also bought some .22 NSA slugs there. I’ve never tried NSA slugs.

I don't know if Walmart will be the spark of life or the kiss of death for JSB. My gut tells me that this kind of deal is always short term and usually, negatively, impacts quality. We will see. I don't think that your typical Walmart shopper is going to see the price as that great of a deal either. For the 18.13gr, that's over 5 cents a pellet. One thing for sure is that it will be a real world test to see how popular airgunning is becoming with the non-addicted casual shooters, or if there is enough airgun junkies to keep sales going regardless.

So if they are selling slugs, I wonder if they are planning on selling a “slug compatible Airgun”. Or at least one marketed that way .

Hard to tell on the slug capable airguns. They didn’t have many airguns period. But, this Walmart has just been redone and the sporting goods is not finished. They were selling the Umarex Nitro cartridges at a good price, but I never saw an Umarex Komplete for sale, but they say they have them. But, this is a smaller super center. I say that, but they just stocked up with shooting Houses etc.. It’s interesting food for thought: Predator just got JSB into Walmart and at the same time NSA slugs, who were recently purchased by Pyramyd Air. The Ascent would make sense.

I picked up a new tin for comparison. Visually looks fine to my eyes. But not buying these from WallyWorld unless I’m in a bind.

The app will not let me purchase them at the discounted rate and even if I did, it’s still much cheaper for me (using the reward program) to buy them from PA.

I just bought a box of those 20.2 .22 nsa slugs from Wally world. Haven't tried them yet on .22. free shipping arrives tomorrow. If I have time I'm going to run the avenge x on a few different pellets/slugs at 25 yards this evening or tomorrow.

NSA slugs have worked well for me once I paired the right diameter and weight with my airgun barrels. Length hasn't really been an issue. I like flat and dish based NSA slugs. Their hollow points don't expand much at all unless they hit wood or lead in my experience.

20 grains sounds on the light side for a .22 slug, most of the JSB and H&N pellets I use are in the 18 grain range.

They can work, it depends on the barrel twist rate, how fast you send them and the length and diameter of the slug.

Yeah they have 2 at my local Wally. For whatever reason they are only stocking 177 in JSB and nsa. Bummer as I want to buy just one tin of hades to see if my alpha likes them. Will have to check some other stores.

I just tried the NSA slugs out of the only PCP I have at present, the .22 Notos.
It fires 18 grain pellets @ 830 fps., so the 20 grain slugs should be near that.

I'm zeroed with JSB pellets at 15 yards (my backyard range) and the NSA slugs were hitting an inch higher on the target. I would have expected them to hit a tiny bit lower if anything.
The slugs didn't feed as well as pellets either. (using Big Air 12 rd. magazines) I had one that didn't want to close, removed the magazine and saw it was lodged part way forward, jamming up the mag. I took a punch, pushed it out and loaded a fresh slug in its place.

Groups were in the inch and a half range. (Quality pellets are almost through the same hole at the same distance.).
My Notos has a good moderator on it, a Huggett Belita. Shots with pellets sound barely louder than the hammer ping, I could have swore that the slugs sounded louder.
Based on the accuracy, I won't be buying anymore, at least in this weight.

I noticed the Big air mags vs the Maple mags only different is that Norma heavys catch a little on the Big air mags, I just shot 10 out of my Notos and I had about the same result. My Notos shoots Norma 17.6 in the 815-830 range. Speed may be the issue as well. I seen a fellow on AGN say the NSA 17.5 gr in .2165 worked well on the stock barrel.
