Well, the classic I bought from AoA seems to have been well loved. When I got it, the Hagan tank was TDC on the stock. I wanted to offset it, or completely delete it. I originally wanted to delete it, but apparently the fill probe that comes with the gun is used with the piggy back tank….

Ok, let’s offset it. Degas, go to disassemble, notice one of the screws for the clamp was stripped. The second is so close it’s not even funny. Gonna have to tap it out to the next size screw. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

Disassemble the reservoir and look at it. I turn the end piece where the probe goes in to about the 1 o’clock position so I can get a good cheek weld. Unsure if that will be an issue or not as it seems to be a threaded connection and tight is perfectly TDC….. We shall see… Gonna order a fill probe with QD Foster

While looking at everything I notice the forward plug (little brass plug where the valve pin comes through) has been marred. It looks like whoever had it last used the wrong size screwdriver to install it. And it appears to be a bit deformed from the hammer. This one has a gen 1 hammer that’s apparently rougher on the plug than the newer ones. So I’m gonna replace that. Probably replace the valve as well while I’m at it.

Reassemble, go to fill, and it starts to leak around the reg. I noticed when sliding the tube back on it didn’t seem to have the resistance it should….. But it was holding pressure when I received it. So, add a complete o-ring kit to the cart as well.

I got some work to do. I hate having to spend the money, I do enjoy tinkering though.

While I’m at it, I think I’m going to order a new Huma reg with the XL plenum. Might as well make my order’s shipping worth it. Anyone have any feedback on these?

Good luck! They’re fun guns to own—I used to have one (or seven). I never tinkered with them much. Just a heads-up: tech support from local dealers is often lacking, so you’re usually on your own. The platform is simple to repair, though, so that helps. Hopefully, you’ll have parts available locally, but if not, you might end up ordering from Spain. Funny enough, shipping from Spain can actually be faster sometimes.

Tech support from local dealers suck so you’re on your own most of the time but it’s an easy platform to repair. Hopefully parts are available and locally so you don’t have to order them from Spain although it takes less time to get them from Spain.

I already ordered from Spain. lol. Like $276.00 for everything. I’m ready to get it fixed up and try it out.

You aren’t lying!!! I ordered late last night, and have an estimated delivery for Wednesday. I mean, Sunday night, Monday ship, Tuesday transit, Wednesday delivery? From Spain? That’s crazy. Massive Kudos to them.

Trying to get that forward plug out now. It’s in there good. I have to go this afternoon to get a new screwdriver. I have a 5/16 slotted, but that’s still not quite wide enough to fully engage. I believe I actually need a 9.5mm. I’m going to try to pick up a 3/8” and apply some heat to loosen it. We shall see.

I’m at a loss what to do. I looked at the 3/8” and could tell they were too thick. So, I ordered in the 9.5mm bit it needs. Still nothing. Got out my Milwaukee soldering iron to apply direct heat to loosen. Still nothing. Swapped to my A2 sight tool so I could get 4 points…. Broke 2 points, still nothing. And now it’s even worse. I even checked the replacement to make sure it wasn’t LH thread. It’s not. I could flipping scream.

if you apply heat and things swell the issue gets worse.
try to apply heat to the brass then left it completely cool I would use a touch of lube, I have had god luck with this.
I am not sure what in there but if the thread get gauled p that could make things worse.
it might have to be drilled to remove it?

Yeah. That’s what I thought too about the swelling. I watched one of EdGun West’s videos where he was repairing the valve on one and he briefly mentioned the brass cup and removing it with a screwdriver and heat. That’s why I was trying it thinking there might be thread locker or something. At this point I might be ordering a whole new end plug assembly from Spain to the tune of $400. I reassembled it and test fired it with the new valve in and it works (though now leaking out of the fill port) so I might disassemble it again, put some lube on just it, let it sit over night, then try again tomorrow. Then treat the complete gun down and do the whole reseal.

do you have a heat gun I would try to heat but then let it cool aluminum will ball up so easy!
is there anything behind that brass plug?
a good machinest can get that out and for a lot less then a replacement. and in the event they cant ( doubtful ) then you not out anything if your planning on a replacement?

I do have a heat gun. I didn’t know if heating the brass with the solder gun directly, then allowing it to cool wouldn’t be better.

that is what I would try first maybe to it a couple cycles when you heat it it swells a bi the let it cool and repeat.
then if that doesnt help warm it up and use a little perrifin around the brass so it is sucked down in the threads again let it cool.

The paraffin is a really good idea. I’ll get some tomorrow while I’m out.

Update…..

I had a great idea! I disassembled the tube and separated the front plug assembly. Sprayed penetrating lubricant on the brass fitting and allowed it time to soak in…. Then, I took a very small drill bit and drilled in on either side of the center hole for the valve. This made a new, deeper slot I could get a better grip in. I put a brand new flathead bit in my Milwaukee impact and then!!!!!!!!

I proceeded to use the impact to no avail and only bent the new bit…..

To say I’m frustrated is an understatement.

Less than zero. Probably just going to have to order the whole assembly. I never in a million years would have expected this to cause this many problems. I just thought I’d back it out and put in a new one with the proper tools to get it back the way it needed.
