The BSA R-12 XLX PRO.
This isn’t a new subject for me, but shooting an N50 score card for record (mine) is. From a 230-ish bar fill and a magazine loaded with 22.07 gr JTS Dead Center pellets I set out to see how well I could manage a card.
I decided that I would start with a 25 yard trial run. Yah, I know, that’s easy. And frankly, it was. But this was to double check myself and to verify that my 25 yard (24.7 lazer range finder measured) zero was spot on.
Settled on the Caldwell bag with a rear support bag, I finished the card in about 3-4 minutes. I think you would agree that the zero is confirmed, indicated by the below image…
I know, I know, it’s only 25 yards. And that’s why I mowed the range and got it cleaned up, so that I could do an honest 50 yard (laser confirmed) card. I guess I could shoot a 10 Meter target at 25 yards and maybe that would be a cool target to score. But I digress. I’m pretty sure that’s a 250/250 with no less than 23 X’s if it was .35 cal plugged. I’m simply impressed with this guns precision. Well, on to the meat and potatoes.
The 50 yard card would prove to be a little more of a challenge with a maximum zoom of 16X out of the Arken optic. Straight from the tin, unsorted at any time I reloaded the high capacity magazine. Adding an Armogedon bean bag to the Caldwell gives me enough elevation to make the 50 yard range more comfortable. I’m so used to shooting with a bipod, so the bag base is a little wonkey. I’m not making excuses, because I don’t think there’s any to be made. I think the card shows that.
Is it a perfect card? Nope, I’ve never shot a perfect card at 50 yards. My high cards are usually in the 230-240 range with my .25 cal M3 that is completely bench rest built and weights 19 pounds shooting 33.95’s.
Did I drop one?
… maybe? I think a .35 plug would get me a little higher score than what the photo shows. I don’t have a plug to confirm this.
After 50 shots, I was still on the reg (120-135 bar factory setting) so the two last shots were either me, wind or pellet or combo of all. The gun is certainly capable of putting up some very respectable scores when I am able to return to the Salem benches.
I certainly miss having the Accu-Tac under the front, but I’m not messing up this beautiful stock just for that. Maybe a bottle clamp is in order
