Others HPA Compressor Crossroads…?🙈

My Hatsan Lightning has served me well until today. Was filling my SCBA from 2800 to 4000 psi, when the following started happening at 3500 psi. The on/off switch started smoking and before I knew it there was smoldering coming from it and the other switches. Once before through vibration, I believe the on/off switch caused me problems and I replaced it. This time around all the switches will need to be rewired. Frankly, I will try and fix it but am done… I have enough air in my two SCBAs for a few weeks, judiciously using my Pathfinder, the Ghost will have to wait. Both my Atomics I can fill from a hand pump so am good there. The irony is that I had directed filled all my PCPs today with zero issues. If I get the Lightning running again it will only be for direct fills.

My question to you fellow members is do I buy a direct fill compressor, or bite the bullet and get something like the Daystate 4500psi Super Leggero 110v Air Compressor. And though it is pricey, it is not much more than some of the PCPs currently on the market. I understand it utlimately my decision. But am seeking the thoughts and opinions of those who may see it differently. Two of my PCPs required a HPA compressor, two do not. I suspect the Atomics are going to see more use until I can make up my mind. First world problems, Oy!

As said above, probably be best to bite that bullet and get that tank filler. Lots of payment programs to help make that an easier ordeal.

You probably remember my thread about my dilemma between getting a 4th yong heng or going "up a tier" and getting a higher quality compressor. I nearly decided just to get an alkin and be done with it, but chose the gx e5k2 at half the price. I've ran that only 4 hours so far but I will say, it is leaps and bounds better in performance than my yong hengs were. Whether or not it holds up for many many hours like it should is still to be determined.

After my last yong heng went down, I ran only my little gx battery compressor for some months and it saw alot of use and held up..but I missed my tank dearly for easier fill ups in the field. I know you get out often in the field and will likely want your tank back soon, so my opinion is get the best tank filler you can afford.

The Omega Air Charger, paired with an air dryer, provides an efficient solution for filling large tanks with clean, dry air. While it runs at a slower pace, it can fill 74-cubic-foot tanks in a reasonable amount of time. I own one myself and prefer it over the GX because of the exceptional service provided by Tod, who is the rep for Omega compressors—essentially a rebranded GX.

Really boils down to how much you shoot and fill. I only shoot a cpl days a week and generally need to top off one 6.8L a week. Almost went with a bigger gx (5k1) but it sold out so I went with a cs4. Glad I did. Half hour a week to top a 6.8L doesn’t warrant the bigger unit. The super leggero is nice but you can buy 5 gx4. Depends on how much you shoot 🤷‍♂️

I like to shoot a lot and came to realize, particularly today. That I haven’t been sending as much because I’ve been worried about when, not if the Lightning was going down. I have five PCPs that would benefit from a consistent, quality air source. Definitely want to get it right this time around, and am hoping to buy a HPA compressor that will last for years and years… Moolah is an issue of course, so within reason. Am justifying it in the sense that many current PCPs equal or exceed the price of a good HPA compressor… Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts…🙏

I seem to recall you, Luis mulling over getting a .30cal airgun at some point (Sonoran)? They like HPA....a lot! My .22 Ghost is a greedy pig on air (and I love it🥰😂) With just the hand pump I'd alway shoot 20 or so shots and "oh, better stop now or I'll have to fill it from off-reg" (1 hr of on-off hand pumping🤯) ...took the fun right out of shooting it! The Hill compressor makes me not afraid of the 👻.
I too say go bigger and keep filling the tanks you already have👍

See some others suggesting alkin. Probably not a bad idea when you get that high in dollar. The daystate is what 2500-2600. Yeah maybe at that point an alkin and never look back.

Always was a springer and rammer guy and still love the simplicity of them- grab some pellets and go shoot. Always had 1 PCP and could get my tank filled with air at my local fire department. I’ll never forget this statement made by Lewis during one of our conversations. He said if you ever get a compressor it will change your world about shooting airguns,because you will have air anytime you want. He was completely spot on. Gx4 and Alkin w31, 2 tanks later with many PCPs and 6 grandkids , 6 children that shoot. lol best money that I ever spent. They will all be set up after I’m gone.

Purchased a Daystate 4500 PSI Compressor 110V Super Leggero HPA compressor… Looking forward to shooting as much as I please… Thank you gentlemen for your responses…🙏
@Luis Leon What were the determining factors that motivated you to purchase the Super Leggaro above other medium-duty or heavy-duty compressors?

@Ezana4CE,
The 110V was a big factor for me as I didn’t want to incur the expense of a dedicated circuit. Secondly, the reputation of the Manufacturers teamed up to make the unit. Third is that its backed up by AOA here in the States. And last of all I didn’t want to purchase a HPA compressor to worry about not if, but when it would fail. Already did that with my Hatsan Lightning. Which I babied and never filled my SCBAs above 4000 psi. Am looking forward to enjoying full fills on them shortly and will be able to keep all my PCPs fully topped off…

@Luis Leon I can appreciate the time taken to investigate and research compressors and the thought that went into your decision making process leading up to your purchase. Perhaps your process will help others contemplating buying a medium to heavy-duty HPA compressor.

Looks like a great unit, and probably best of you all you will AOA as american service support should the need arise. Looking forward to hearing your experience with it
