I have posted about my MROD (.25) on here before but, as usual, have another simple question. The bolt is very tight and hard to to pull all the way back to cocking position.
I had a an Armada in .177 that was very easy to cock. I have 2 side lever rifles and they may have spoiled me but is there a way to reduce the cocking effort?

Do you have the hammer spring cranked up all the way?
I second the hammer spring suggestion. The standard hammer spring tension setting for the Marauder (and Armada) is higher in .25 than it is in .177 caliber. And higher-still if you have cranked it up. That spring compression has to be achieved when pulling back on the bolt handle. Hence harder to cock.

Every single Marauder is test-fired multiple times after it has been assembled as a quality control stage, so it's unlikely that an out-of-spec bolt handle effort would have been missed in manufacturing.

If @BenjeneerJohn is around, I'm sure he can give the official answer...

@hameditor - I don't know about official, but I have some ideas....

The .25 has a higher cocking effort from the factory.

I would add a little lube to the bolt and hammer. You can pull them out and use a THIN coating of molly grease or you can drip a little of your favorite gun lube into the bolt and hammer. FP10 or something similar works well. Just go easy on the lube. If you put to much you can have issues with your hammer strikes.

You could also break the rifle down and pull the hammer our to see if there are any burrs in the hammer slot.

This is not meant to distract, but just today.... with two targets left on our monthly hunter field target match .... I couldn't cock my bolt on my Gen II synthetic. It wouldn't catch. Is this common? What have I done? What do I need to do?

Cousin Jack, I actually got to hangout with my Cousin Jack today...

I am sorry about your issues. That's a terrible time to have a problem.

Pop the action out of the stock (just the one button head screw in in front of the trigger guard.
Smack the cover of the trigger pack with a screw driver or Allen key. See if that works. We have seen the Sears get hung up. It is a crazy rare occurrence but we have seen it.

If not, you can pop the cover off the trigger pack and take a look.

The other option is but a new trigger pack and pop it on.

Wow! Thank you, sir! Does the gun need to be degassed to remove the stock and assault the trigger pack? Dumb question, I know ... but as a gunsmith I make a good retired ski patroller. I'm a dangerous man with any tool in my hand!
