My grandmother used to tell me about when she was growing up that they still had the whipping post in Wilmington. A few good lashes set them straight and deterred others.Why are we so thin skinned anymore? I am all for as in SC having prisoners clean the highway- all chained together and one trooper on horseback with a 12ga.. Let them earn their keep.

You can never be prepared for any disaster because it’s never what you expect. This was a big learning experience you can’t learn on YouTube. There are a lot of changes we will make after this to prep for hopefully another disaster because it’s not the last one. I found the s&w shield 9 with a stream light tlr6 is a great disaster combo. I can’t have a shotgun out but I can put this in my pocket. It’s been with my either in my pack or pocket this whole experience. I’m going to pawn off random double and single shot shotguns that aren’t used and keep just essentials for hunting and defense. Airguns are ok

First, glad that you evacuated safely. Second, taking a sidearm with you is good policy. Third, I keep all of my firearms, and Airguns in a safe that is fire rated whenever I leave for extended periods. We had severe fires near here in 2016, lots of devastation, many homes lost in the Gatlinburg area. One thing that the safe company I buy from learned, safes do better in the garage. The heat is of shorter duration, and many that were on the first floor were in the basement when the fire was over. Buy a quality unit, and you may have to hire them to come out to open it but your things will still be there.

No, actually Browning pro steel fared best in the fires. They opened just about every brand of safe, some they sell, others that they didn't sell. They recommended Browning after real world experience.
