Firestorms and guns

Well folks, Hateful just got himself banned from the HAM Community.

I'm all for diversity of opinion. But this is a Community for the discussion of airguns. My suggestions for conduct here are gently-worded. But I'm serious when I do make them.

The Lord is watching over you Mike and hopefully many others in this aweful situation. I'm glad you have things under control as much as you could. I imagine some people were barely able to escape with the clothes on their backs. Hang in there, brother.
Appreciate it. Yes my wife is a smart cookie. I get overwhelmed but I’m calm. My wife stays calm and is very quick thinking. She just said “laundry and clothes in laundry baskets and into your work van” we keep many baskets for emergencies. The Sprinter was packed. Between the two of us we had most necessities. Unfortunately most folks didn’t. It wasn’t because we were more prepped it’s just my brother in law saw the glow and was able to inform us. Many many changes will happen in the future. I have plans for emergency situations

I’m sure many of you are aware of all the madness happening in Southern California with all the fires. Well we evacuated with a 45 minute warning luckily. What does one pack in 45 minutes? No not your Airguns lol. I packed a single 9mm pistol because coming back to the fire zone to assess the post fire damage to the neighborhood ya never know. Plus it’s small so nobody will freak out when checking in to a hotel.
We evacuated just in time with me driving my work van (Mercedes Sprinter) packed with basically laundry baskets of clothes and essentials. My wife in the SUV with the kids and little dog (sorry fish you had to stay behind) and my mother in law in her little car with her special needs adult son.
Every hotel was booked obviously so we all went to my work shop nearby to figure things out. We met up with my brother in law at the shop. We ended up finding a hotel nearby that was pet friendly so we went. Before we left the shop we watched in shock as the fire consumed my neighbors homes, our yard… on our ring cameras. The wind was so intense that not even a 100000 firefighters could do their job. Power goes out so does the ring WiFi. Let’s just say it was a very emotional night for everybody until morning when our neighbor calls saying our house is fine but unfortunately she lost hers along with several other neighbors. Our home just had a bunch of ugly bushes burn. I had shut our gas off before leaving and left the back yard gate unlocked for our hero’s (firefighters) to have access.
Ok what does all this have to do with guns? Looters. I don’t care if I give my guns away or I sell them whether air or powder but it scares the hell out of me having them in the wrong hands. I ended up renting a storage yesterday with great security, air conditioning, indoor unit and moved all the stuff I don’t want getting into the wrong hands. Sure, I’m running a generator to keep my ADT working and my brother in law has hired private security to watch our homes (we live across the street). Law enforcement has also implemented a 6pm-6am curfew with check points into the neighborhood along with patrol cars. The first night in the fires low life’s burglarized 2 of my neighbors.
This whole thing got me thinking about all this gun stuff I have and that in every disaster it’s always a burden even in a safe. Don’t mention all the ammo.
The next thing I have to do is think about all the guns I have and see what’s important to keep for home defense and hunting and that’s it. The Airguns I have are fine there aren’t that many but i do have compressors, tanks and things like that but it’s not something a thief can do harm with.
At the end of this we all came out ok. Unfortunately a lot of our neighbors didn’t. 5 folks lost their lives in the Eaton Fire. Thank you to all the firefighters, law enforcement, gas company, power company for working so hard.
Family is precious. Nothing else matters but their safety. Everything can be replaced. This is what I learned. But I don’t want guns getting into wrong hands.
My prayers go to all the families that have lost so much.
Mike , glad you made out as well as you did. Sorry about your friends & neighbors. I have in-laws out that way that had to evacuate also. I worked in Bakersfield for several months in 2018 doing environmental work. I was taken back by the
dry areas around the job. We did have a neighboring property catch fire one day . It brought for some tense moments as it moved toward us as we were poised to put our earthmovers into action, but CalFire took care of the situation. There were firebreaks established the next day around us! I am so thankful to live where I do, a little snow once in a while, but no worries about most other environmental concerns. Hope all goes well with you & your family going forward. We will be donating to the relief effort.

Appreciate it. Fire is insane I’m going to put up a video to show the craziness of what my cameras picked up before the power was shut.

I was just thinking of getting one once I get rid of extra things or not
Stainless detective special if it is pocket gun. If you need a truck gun that is "persuasive" the taurus Judge comes to mind-load with combination of buck and regular rounds.

Just watched the video you posted and you are one very lucky man! Incredible footage!

The little s&w shield has proven handy in literally clearing my home after entering like swat style. Someone tried to break in but set the burglar alarm off. I’m looking at the ruger lcr or similar for simplicity

There's nothing like the hellish inferno of a fire pushed by winds. Thank God you and your family got out safely! Stay safe brother and watch out for those low lifes!

Mike - I am glad you, your family and home are safe!

It is sad to see all the devastation these fires brought to CA. It is equally as sad to know that people are trying to take advantage of the situation and loot. This should be a time for us to come together and help each other as Americans.

I have a S&W Sheild in 9. Great little carry piece.

Stay safe!

John
