I’m sure many of you are aware of all the madness happening in Southern California with all the fires. Well we evacuated with a 45 minute warning luckily. What does one pack in 45 minutes? No not your Airguns lol. I packed a single 9mm pistol because coming back to the fire zone to assess the post fire damage to the neighborhood ya never know. Plus it’s small so nobody will freak out when checking in to a hotel.
We evacuated just in time with me driving my work van (Mercedes Sprinter) packed with basically laundry baskets of clothes and essentials. My wife in the SUV with the kids and little dog (sorry fish you had to stay behind) and my mother in law in her little car with her special needs adult son.
Every hotel was booked obviously so we all went to my work shop nearby to figure things out. We met up with my brother in law at the shop. We ended up finding a hotel nearby that was pet friendly so we went. Before we left the shop we watched in shock as the fire consumed my neighbors homes, our yard… on our ring cameras. The wind was so intense that not even a 100000 firefighters could do their job. Power goes out so does the ring WiFi. Let’s just say it was a very emotional night for everybody until morning when our neighbor calls saying our house is fine but unfortunately she lost hers along with several other neighbors. Our home just had a bunch of ugly bushes burn. I had shut our gas off before leaving and left the back yard gate unlocked for our hero’s (firefighters) to have access.
Ok what does all this have to do with guns? Looters. I don’t care if I give my guns away or I sell them whether air or powder but it scares the hell out of me having them in the wrong hands. I ended up renting a storage yesterday with great security, air conditioning, indoor unit and moved all the stuff I don’t want getting into the wrong hands. Sure, I’m running a generator to keep my ADT working and my brother in law has hired private security to watch our homes (we live across the street). Law enforcement has also implemented a 6pm-6am curfew with check points into the neighborhood along with patrol cars. The first night in the fires low life’s burglarized 2 of my neighbors.
This whole thing got me thinking about all this gun stuff I have and that in every disaster it’s always a burden even in a safe. Don’t mention all the ammo.
The next thing I have to do is think about all the guns I have and see what’s important to keep for home defense and hunting and that’s it. The Airguns I have are fine there aren’t that many but i do have compressors, tanks and things like that but it’s not something a thief can do harm with.
At the end of this we all came out ok. Unfortunately a lot of our neighbors didn’t. 5 folks lost their lives in the Eaton Fire. Thank you to all the firefighters, law enforcement, gas company, power company for working so hard.
Family is precious. Nothing else matters but their safety. Everything can be replaced. This is what I learned. But I don’t want guns getting into wrong hands.
My prayers go to all the families that have lost so much.

WOW! Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad that you and your family made it out OK. It's shocking just to read, let alone to have experienced it. My best wishes to you all...

Sure glad you and your family ok Mike. I couldn't imagine having that happen, nor do I want to. You take care buddy. Looters will still be on the prowl.

Thank you. Hopefully the police presence will be a deterrent. I run my Honda eu2000 all night until it dies and it has charged the backup big battery for the ADT and once that drains ADT has a small backup battery inside so if I get 12 hours of security at night I’m ok. I also connected some low power led Christmas lights as some light source. We have lanterns inside. Hopefully it’s fine. I haven’t had ADT call so that’s good. We also kinda got some hope the evacuation night that the house was ok because ADT was armed almost all night until it died. I’m sure something would’ve gone off if it caught fire

You'd think with not wanting any fresh water in the area the state or city gov would of came up with a emergency salt water pumping system from the ocean just for this stuff . But I guess that may cause more global warming or harm the spotted beach sand sapsucker minnow so no can do ..

I feel for them people but ...

Well you got the best leadership taking care of you ..

The Lord is watching over you Mike and hopefully many others in this aweful situation. I'm glad you have things under control as much as you could. I imagine some people were barely able to escape with the clothes on their backs. Hang in there, brother.
The lucky ones..

People died .. One guy holding a water hose in his hand .. probably had no water for it to come out but... ( Still will get the city water bill I bet ,)

I would sure hope so anyway. But you know thieves. They will always press there stupid luck, thinking they smarter than the cops.
Glad you got the ADT system and the genny.

Bads a understatement. That's just negligence.
Funny how them big time lib movie and rich folks are changing there tune . I guess liberal reality set in for them.

I hope they get treated as good as the hurricane people did . Seeing how fast and well there lives got from all the gov help ..

Who's going to respond to the alarm ? The defunded police or fire department? .

Glad to hear that your family is safe. I live on the east coast near Philadelphia, and we have been watching the whole disaster. I have prayed for those who lost their lives, and for those who have to try to save more lives. It is a tragedy plain and simple. We had a tornado through here back in the early 90's ,and the looters were in there right behind the people leaving. We caught several of them while blocking off the roads surrounding the area. We assisted the state/local officers as I was a deputy game warden at the time. Since we were local and knew everyone. I have no tolerance for a thief! God bless and take care.

Unfortunately they are.😒 There always will be those who want what you have. They are just not wanting to work to have the same. Much easier to take yours in times of distress. Even at that time,we COULD shoot them!! Try that now and you would be the one in jail. Hopefully a new leadership in the DOJ will allow prosecution of those that really need it. During the last hurricane in NC the majority of looters were illegals.

Thank God for living in the South. Say what you will about us backwards rednecks, these types of scum don't make it very long down here.
