Guess just a folding single blade. Ended up ordering a Spyderco. Spyderco Ambitious Lightweight Pocket Knife 2.31 Leaf 8Cr13MoV we have blade limits here in LA

Should be a good choice! If anyone is looking at a fixed blade, the Mora is great. About $20 on sale for their utility model.

I noticed Spyderco knives can vary a lot in price. Turns out, it’s because they’re built differently depending on the model.

Luckily, I’ve never been obsessed with knives, so this won’t spiral out of control. Projectile-shooting devices… now that’s a different story. The knife world does seem pretty interesting though—I can definitely see how it could turn into a massive collection. If I were obsessed, I’d probably be chasing top-tier blades and going broke in the process. But thankfully, I’m not!
I have very few comparatively speaking.
I look at EDC differently if a knife isn’t worthy then it’s not worth having, I carry a knife every single day unless it’s prohibited by location.
I have never lost a knife, to do so is unacceptable to me. I don’t have a problem spending $300+ on one.
Yup - started down that road about 7-8 years ago and caught myself quick. After spending bucks on a couple of Hinderer flippers I decided it wasn't a road I wanted to go down. An EDC or two is plenty - maybe a nice knife if you want.

It looks like OP was mostly interested in folders, and for that I love spyderco. I carry a delicate 4 everyday for just the basic cutting packages etc. I've had it for probably 8 years, nothing fancy at all but it does the job!
I am not obsessed but I do collect old folders.
I love the craftsmanship of old slip joint knifes.
as mention in one of @Bladebum videos they are tools but they are also art as well as function : )

Mike some quick question to help narrow down a selection. 1. Fixed blade or Folder, 2. Blade length and steel you prefer. 3. Primary use. Hunting, Fishing, Cutting cardboard ect.

Not a $300 folding knife under 3 inch blade to be legal in socal. I did settle on a Spyderco folder it was like $50. I lose knives and sunglasses so I don’t spend too much on them

Been obsessed with guns and knives as far back as I can remember. Had 2 fall out of my pockets while laid out on my nap blanket on the floor during Kindergarten. Don't know if they try to get kindergarten kids to nap anymore but it was a common practice 70 years ago.
Any who, my constant companion knife is a Benchmade Griptilian....it's a bit on the large side for an EDC but does the job. Prior to that I carried a Spyderco Dragon fly with ZDP 189 steel...small and sharp...held a great edge but my car seat belt kept snagging the pocket clip and removing it from my pocket without me even noticing until I needed to use it. Never lost it but came close...

In my opinion the Kershaw Leek is the best pocket knife I’ve ever owned. I’ve had a lot of them. I don’t even mess with serrated anymore. The Leek is very receptive to sharpening and keeping its edge. From all my experience, a sharp blade can do any of the tasks I need better than a serrated blade. And they are made in the USA.
Sharpening, the Spyderco was the best investment I ever made. I keep it at work so my whole unit can use it.

As of late I have been carrying a OTF "out the front" automatic blade. Microtec is the king but I didn't want to spend 400 dollars till I knew it would be a knife I'd love to carry and use. So I found a knockoff and love it. Found it on amazon for like 35 bucks shipped. It has held up to alot of abuse so far. But only time will tell how long it will truly last.

I wish I'd seen this thread earlier. Besides airguns, knives are another love of mine. I've been collecting since the early 90's once I became an adult and could purchase them on my own. Budget knives have come a long way, especially coming from China or Taiwan but mostly China. I'm mostly referring to folders because they're more complicated than fixed blades.
I'll give you an example. Spyderco has knives made in about five countries. U.S., Japan, China, Italy, and Taiwan. Believe it or not, in regards to quality control and fit & finish, the knives they have manufactured in Taiwan rivals what comes out of the U.S. While I do love to support the U.S., it's hard to deny the machining capabilities coming out of China and Taiwan for the cost.
Here's a list of some companies with excellent fit and finish coming out of China worth looking at for the price:
- Artisan Cutlery
- Sencut
- WE Knives
- CIVIVI
- Vosteed
- Kansept
- Tenable
- Maxace
- Kizer
- Reate
- CJRB
- QSP
...and a lot more especially on the higher end of quality knife manufacturers from China. The higher end dealing mostly with intricately machined titanium, exotic materials, high-end blade steels, and various shades of carbon fiber/inlays. A good high quality budget EDC folder with a 3"-3.5" blade can be had for around $40 to $70.
