Marauder Better barrel for accuracy?

Last edited:
No. I thought the same thing because mine had a tight choke and felt rough. I decided, before throwing it out, to polish the hell out of it, as an experiment. Ended up being so accurate Ive never looked back. The factory have the potential of being just as accurate as any aftermarket barrel. Try yours before pitching it. And this is coming from the guy that likes to work on, and change, everything, around here.

Welcome to HAM!

I couldn't agree with you more and ill go a step more, are you following the steps that make anyone a better shot? Please don't take offense to this we are guilty of missing at least one of the steps:
  • Stance and Position
    • Practice a stable, repeatable position (e.g., prone, bench, or standing) where you feel balanced and relaxed.
    • Distribute your weight evenly, engage your core, and minimize muscle tension.
  • Grip and Stock Weld
    • Grip the rifle firmly but not rigidly; allow your shoulder and cheek to naturally seat the stock.
    • Find a consistent cheek weld so your eye lines up the same way with your sights or scope every time.
  • Sight Alignment and Picture
    • Align front and rear sights (iron) or center your reticle (optic) on the target.
    • Keep your focus on the front sight or reticle, allowing the target to appear slightly blurred.
  • Breathing Control
    • Inhale, exhale about half, then momentarily pause your breathing (“respiratory pause”) to take the shot.
    • Maintain core stability during the pause; don’t hold tension in your arms or shoulders.
  • Trigger Control
    • Apply steady, smooth pressure straight to the rear; avoid jerking or anticipating recoil.
    • Practice “surprise break” so the shot feels like it happens on its own.
  • Follow-Through
    • Keep your sight picture and trigger pressed even after the shot breaks.
    • Observe recoil and impact, then reset your position for the next shot.
Cheek weld is so important, and as you can see, I’ve made my own rest to ensure I have that sight perfectly aligned through the scope every time even when I'm hunting coyote at night.

Abstruse,
What do your groups look like now? If you are happy with them, no point in changing. If they are terrible you might want to test some other pellets before you spend the money on a barrel. The Benjamin Match Grade 27.9s or the JSB 25.4g pellets are what I would suggest as starting points.
How new is the rifle?
Have you cleaned the barrel? Maybe try polishing it.

As previous posters have commented with some love a barrel can be improved. You can also buy a new Crosman barrel from Customer Service if you want to play with one.

Does anyone have a link to a polishing procedure that they would like to share? One that calls outsteps and materials used.

A little video tutorial that has caught some attention back in the day..

I have a v 2.0 Marauder .25 and I’m wondering if getting an aftermarket barrel would be worth it. My only shooting is from a bench, mainly 25 and 50 yds.

Your thoughts are welcome.
Hey man and welcome to the HAM forum! I'm with some of the other members suggestions to polish the barrel before trying anything else. A custom new barrel is pretty costly anyway, but if you have money to burn you can call Rich at Airgun Revisions and he might have a Green Mountain barrel he could sell you. It would be worth a call.

I haven’t had to do any polishing to mine, only had to clean the barrels and find guns favorite ammo.

I had old Gen1 in .22 cal , when I got it cleaning the barrel was all I had to do. That gun shot lights out hole in hole with the right ammo.

Have Newer Airgun Revisions Custom .20cal Marauder. Same thing, I only had to clean the barrel. Gun is a laser, on chipmunks.
