They look great to me! how do you like that march highmaster on the mini?
Love my March. The only problem is that I have only about 4.5 mils of down travel left on the elevation after zeroing it. At higher magnifications above 20X, the resolution is not as sharp. I have a set of Eagle Vision adjustable scope rings. I plan to add some MOA to the front ring to level off the built in MOA on the Evol rail to get it optically centered. That's my only gripe about the scope. I love the FML-TR1 reticle on it though. One of the best reticles for my eyes and style of shooting. The illumination could be better though. It doesn't compare to the illumination on my Kahles and ZCO scopes which are crisp and bright.

How about eyebox?

I am looking for something to top my mini , it is EXTREMELY similar in size and weight to my Valdada G2 mini which I truly love so I am thinking I may just buy another one of those (after seeing your march on the mini) for my mini.

Have you weighed your mini as you have it set up? Also like @Madeintheuk how is the eyebox and are you always shooting in the same position?

It's easy to get behind when shooting in the 12x-15x magnification range which I spend the majority of the time shooting at. Above 20x-28x, it gets a little tight but not bad but then again, most scopes including tier 1 have a tighter eyebox at the end of their magnification range. I was playing with it earlier today to confirm this. Having an adjustable cheek piece really helps and also having the right ring height to leave some room to get a proper cheekweld is a plus.

It seems that the biggest complaints people have about say the march scope or the nx8 is the eyebox and that they arent so forgiving but it seems thats mostly at the higher mags, which I guess its normally expected when the scope has such a wide magnification range? I am a scope newbie but am learning every day more and more as I am starting to be more critical of my optic selection. On my G2 Mini 4.5-28 the eye box is really, really forgiving no matter what magnification range. Its just a little longer than the rest of the scopes in its class.

Ha! You made me break out my new scale out of the box to weigh it just for you lol. I haven't weighed any of my guns yet and I've had the digital scale for awhile.

8.665 lbs. The weight specs on my March 4.5-28x52 says 29.8 ounces. Not bad for a 34mm tube.

In regards to eyebox, the shorter the scope and the higher the magnification ratio/erector assembly is, the tighter the eyebox. So a March 3-24×52 has an 8x erector design (24÷3=8x). Nightforce NX8 F1 2.5-20X50 also has an 8x erector assembly (20÷2.5=8x).

The March-FX High Master 4.5-28x52 has a 6.22x erector assembly (28÷4.5=6.22). The lower the erector assembly is, the better. That's why some 3-9×, 2-7x, 3-12x, 4-16x look really good optically. Other compromises in a short bodied, high erector assembly are finicky parallax/focus adjustment, edge distortion in the lower end of the magnification range, and shallow/narrow depth of field.

Also, some scope manufacturers would put a field of view stop to hide the edge distortion and thus having a smaller field of view. This goes for some alpha class/tier 1 scopes as well. I'm no scope expert but just regurgitating some stuff that's been said before.

More of an expert than I and let me tell you man I greatly appreciate this information, truly. Thats what makes this forum so great. Also 8.6 pounds is on the hefty side of things but I find most people airguns are running in around 9-10 fully scoped and full of air so nothing out of the ordinary here.

My paradigm is 9.4 pounds but doesn't feel anywhere near that shouldered. Ive had lighter rifles feel heavier , the evols are just balanced really well.

Funny you say that about some of the lower/tighter mag , I have looked some of the LVPO , well I take that back I have looked through photos taken through the scopes and some of them are so incredibly impressive for such low mag (10 and under).

Also, that new scale looks awesome, I have been using a luggage scale to weigh my rifles with a dog collar looped through the stocks to hold them.

Not a problem at all and happy to assist. I was surprised at the weight as well when I first put it on the scale. I was skeptical and weighed one of my flashlights which I knew the weight specs on and it was exactly the same. Like everyone else has said, the Evols balance so well that it doesn't feel that heavy when shouldering it. I could put a lighter scope on it but it's hard to find one that's short, light weight, FFP, and doesn't suffer optically.

I have been searching and searching and searching scopes for weeks, maybe even more than a month now. In order to get teir 1 with the desirable options, weight is going to be sacrificed unless you can get behind some of the super narrow eye box scopes that have say a 42mm objective and wider mag range. I also will only look at FFP scopes and they are typically heavier.

I really love my 2-12x42 Helos on my mini. Far from Tier 1 glass but for my needs fits what I need perfectly. I do wish it was less hefty as I believe it's around 25oz or 26oz. I'll have to weigh mine as I ditched a heavier scope but added the PRS Lite over the standard MOE stock. I believe before was around 8lbs on the dot. Hard to beat I think for a quality airgun scoped up. Heck my Taipans I think were in the 10lbs range with a scope lol. The Shorty not as close but in the 9lbs range. But like said they balance so well. If you want lightweight my little Notos is hard to beat with a red dot. Feels like sub 4lbs lol but need to weigh and see.

Tier1 means apochromatic lens sets and high density compressed glass. That's a lot of heavy glass elements and that's where weight comes from. Hard to make a lightweight scope without giving up optical quality.

Compact geometry help with less aluminum, smaller magnification means a smaller objective which will save weight.

Far from tier1, the SWFA 3-15 x42 FFP is my fav for the mini. The MiniG2 is massive comparatively.

Thanks for clearing that up!

That SWFA looks great actually. Same length but 6 ounces lighter and keeps my wallet heavier , definitely one to consider 😀

Out of curiosity, what does the swfa have over the Arken epl4 4-16? It’s very slightly lighter, but similar features for half the price. I’ve never looked through an swfa scope, so I have nothing to compare to my Arken, hence the question.
