2024 hunting thread

Was target shooting with my Brocock Bantam Sniper HR .25 the other day and the squirrels were going nuts barking in the woods.

A few started stirring and running through the trees around me after about an hour or so into my practice time. I was testing some JSB KO MKII and tried taking one at 25 yards and missed clean with both shots. By the time I got back to shooting FX 34 grain pellets this guy showed up about 30 yards out and I caught him after pausing in a limb. I sent one through the neck and out through its head for a one shot, toe hanger, hit the ground, 5-7 second death flop. I took the rifle off of the tripod to take the shot from a kneeling position.

Close-up of entrance wound. Neck or high shoulder area, you be the judge.

Close-up of exit wound area. I really wasn’t sure where it came out on its head. By the reaction to the shot, the pellet obviously clipped its brain. I just wanted to skin and gut it before sunset.

Nuttin like a well placed " burr of the ear " shot 😉

What Gun/caliber is that FL22?! My Tx200 is great for offhand shooting, my light and long S510 is absolutely terrible! Just can't keep it steady.
It is a $200 AoA black Friday BSA meteor super 22 that I butchered. For that particular shot it also had a drop of 3 in 1 to help get the lead out and I was holding it against a tree. The butchering part was cutting off about 2 inches of the barrel due to a factory defect. When it was being drilled out for the open sites, they got into the barrel a little bit.

Oh that's unfortunate! Not to get off topic but you had it recrowned as well i imagine? Did it shoot any slower with 2 inches off the barrel?! I've heard conflicting info on short barrels on springers....thanks!

It’s a long story, and I don’t want to hijack Woogie man’s thread so I will start a conversation about it in a new thread. As soon as I get a chance I have some of pictures.

I’m itching to get out to my maple syrup farm permission to do some pesting with my Paradigm .30.
I had laproscopic bilateral hernia surgery Jan 31 and have a 4 week 10 pound weight limit. Between backpack and rifle I’d be over limit. Don’t want to extend recovery any longer than necessary that’s why I scheduled winter surgery. I have year round pesting permit so the critters are getting an execution stay for now.

Shot with a JSB King Heavy MkII 33.95 grain diabolo pellet from my Brocock Bantam Sniper HR pictured in post #16. I thought I was stalking a squirrel in the brush. When I got to a clearing I saw this cotton tail and took a shot. It was probably 10 yards out; nothing to write home about. I think I shot her yesterday. I aimed for the head and hit high shoulder with a complete pass through. Didn’t appear to hit the lungs. She looked healthy, save a few ticks and fleas. She died rather swiftly and now resides in my freezer. Rabbits are fragile creatures.

I was thinking about changing the zero on my .30 cal and maybe my .22 they are both zeroed at 30 yards.
not sure what the .30 is but my .22 i think at 10 yards i have a full mill hold over and at 50 yards maybe a half mill.

The zeros on my rifles are all 50 yards. My paradigm in 22 has a 50 yard zero and have no issues with a little hold under for 30 yard shots. Play with the distances and see what happens.

To be fair I took the shot at 6x magnification on a 4-16x44mm FFP scope. If there was a holdover mark in play I couldn’t see it and wasn’t looking for it. I shot from a kneeling position so my rest was pretty stable.
