Do you have a 'price cap' on what you'll spend for an air rifle?

35yrs back when I bought my first PCP air rifle it was a $600 rifle (Falcon FN19 Single Shot). In those days that was considered a 'high end' air rifle. I would not have chosen to afforded it if a retailer hadn't offered me a special, secret deal.

Today, most consider $2000 and up air rifles as 'high end'. Even today I find it hard to consider buying any air rifle that cost more than $500. I think it's harder for us older people to spend $2000 for an air rifle when we lived during times when prices were so much less for air rifles and pellets. :cautious:

I draw a line in the sand at 2k. But I certainly wouldn’t fault anyone who wants to spend more, I hope they are getting more.

Eventually those 2k+ Airguns will be yesterdays news and I will pick up one used, all the raging questions will be answered. My ownership will be smooth(er) lol.

My Wolverine is a good example, research told me that an older .177 is the way to go.

My thinking is , I am only living once, For myself I try to go all out. Even when one spends a preium, you would hope it is all that & more that is not the case. My expections are high. My true wording is ,I like rifles to be a performer. Take it from storage bring the rig out & bring the rig back & say to myself ( oh that went well )

I am not worried about the upfront price 2-3k would a stretch for me. I look at total cost to own it. That is what has kept me from buying a FX. I really wanted an Impact for a while then when you price it the add-ons are as much as the rifle. If I am paying $2500 for a rifle that need a $300 backbone and a $300 ARCA rail, and, and, and and, no thank you.

Factors that justify prices:
Out of the box experience
Price/value
Dependability
Parts availability

I shoot my Pintys every day. I shoot my expensive stuff occasionally. It cost to much to repair the expensive stuff and they require 10X the maintenance.

With that I enjoy the nice rifles I own. I just know the value is not there, it is a personal thing. That is why you do not see me recommending them to people. So I think if you own any rifle as long as you like it who cares. If you have the money get what you want. Lord knows I have some way to expensive powder rifles.

I have regrets when a $300. gun leaks and I would lose my mind if a $2000. gun leaked. No $700. for an Airforce gun that I don't have to worry about works about right for me and I have gotten them on sale for about half that at times. If I was a competition shooter for money I would feel differently but I shoot in my backyard by myself, nothing to win and nothing to prove. It doesn't have to be perfect, just work, a broken gun is worth nothing to me.

100% agree

Yea, it's called common sense. If a gun is ridiculously priced, I'm not buying it. If it doesn't do anything different than rifles I already own there's no point in me buying it. The main rule is no shopping while drinking.

edit: $3k is a stretch. $4K is a no go.

I know someone who has some very expensive non refundable scopes by violating the main rule or so they blame/claim lol.

I once purchased a Impact MK 2. I decked it all out full of accessories, I purchased a 800 mm Barrel tensioned it, Bt custom shroud with tensioner ,The hole nine yards. wasn't one thing left to do to it. It was super heayt, Still had POI. Then I decided to sell it. I Iended up selling it for 800 $ what a waste on time & money. Some people love their Impacts, personally I would never purchase 1 ever again. If I ever dropped it , It would be like trying to assemble LEGOS LOL

One more for good measures is A ZI I . personaly have one. It is a 1of 1 This is one I would never sell He also would strip down a Brand New rifle fix all the flaws & rebuild the rifle better than the manufactur. To myself it is worth every penny. Like I said before , I only want rifles that are true performers. If they don"t lesson learned.

If the EVOL GPR is what they say it is I will pay the $2000 for it. But to me that is a hand built gun custom if you will, that's about as high as I will go.
@RIP Sir, are you saying you found a new Evol GPR for $2000? Does “GPR” stand for “great price range?” I’m not familiar with that model.

If you’re serious, please share a link.

The new AAA GPR was displayed in prototype form at Extreme Benchrest just a few days ago. It's a new model that's similar to , but different from the EVOL. I sat down with Tom to get all the details in AZ and am writing-up the story right now. It will be in HAM very shortly. But yes the selling price aim for this new hand-built gun is $1,995.00.

@hameditor Thanks for clearing that up because I went to AOA's site and found nothing.

That's good to know, I wouldn't want that either.
