Your favorite gun for short range ratting?

Well, I missed the .177 Atomic in AoA's used section. But I was already smitten... I don't have any intention of using it on pistol configuration, so I picked up the "Gotchu Iguana" Ranger XR package in .22 cal. As far as I can tell, it's the same gun, but with a Pic rail on top, no pistol config, a 0db moderator, and a nice, heavy steel iguana target.

I've had it for a few days now, but between work and weather (and lacking an adapter for the fill probe), I haven't shot it yet. Love the look and feel though! Wonderful weather this weekend, and sure enough, I'll be at work for most of it. 🙄
Congratulations on a fine choice. I had my murderous Atomic XR out today. She did not disappoint… Best part is I still hand pump the little beastie.

I would second that mine is simply murderous on rats… Mine sports an Arken Zulus …💥 Small package, but deadly out to 50+ yards on small critters…

Edited to add, just now off my tripod, hits on wine corks at 15, 40, and the last shot of the night wine cork at 50 yards. Hundreds of pests would attest if they could…🙈
The one on the left has been eating his wheaties for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Absolutely great rig perfect in size for some stalking.

For all close/medium range pesting including ratting i love my compact katran in 22. Shooting 18 grainers at 780 fps im getting 3.5 mags or 60 shots. I've done around 10 night rat hunts at a dairy that is absolutely infested and the katran has taken out hundreds of them.View attachment 13739
Looks like it’s really pleasant to shoot from the shoulder. I genuinely don’t know much about Airmaks guns but if someone handed that katran to me to go shoot I wouldn’t be mad at them haha.

they are fantastic shooters, highly accurate and stout build. And yes, this is my absolute favorite offhand shooter I've ever owned. Very light, balanced well, great power and shot count, folds up for moving around in the truck. Great guns.

Okay salesman now I really want one hahaha. My wallet will never recover from this hobby. The only think I hunt from a tripod is coyotes at night… so a good offhand shooter for the critters would be lovely.

Haha Hard not to promote good things, especially with so much crap out there. I added a huma fill probe with aluminum dust cap that stays on the gun(i hate fill probes so this makes like a standard foster fill) i angled the air tube so that it tucks up nice and out of the way. Aside from that I removed two of the factory baffles(which don't do much) and put on an impulse air 1200 mod to make it short and quiet. Ill probably get another mag so between the two that store in the stock and one in the gun I won't have to carry pellets to reload mags. Once I'm out of those its about time to refill the gun.

The cocking is smooth and light so 1 finger operation without coming off the trigger for a follow up shot is easy. Reg can be adjusted in minutes and hammer spring is right below the trigger for easy adjustment. And the trigger is fully adjustable and wonderful. Your right im trying to sell them to you, wish I made any commission 😁

Oooof that sounds freaking awesome! Does it shoot slugs as well or only pellets? I love shooting slugs but I’m not a snob about it. There’s more than a few situations where I’d prefer pellets.

But a lightweight setup that’ll shoot hybrid slugs would be really fun too. The expansion on those things is nice.

Being able to cock it without taking your finger off the trigger is huge though. Instant jealously on my part haha. That moderator looks purpose built for the gun it matches so well. The cover over the air tank did you add that? Can you connect stuff to it? Looks like mixed shapes on the slot. Looks really cool though. The whole gun has like an mp5-ish look to it that I really like.

I have played with some lightweight slugs and it did good with them, but being a compact getting the power up for slugs is just not going to happen. These cz barrels are notorious for shooting slugs, but my barrel loved the jts 22.07 pellets which are a great compromise between pellet and slug. It did shoot hybrids good too. I bought it for a midweight pellet shooter and I so I just stick with jts 18 grains.

The foregrip is factory and I believe its keymod. Yes you can attach all sorts of things to it like flashlights or pic rails for whatever you might want. Couple features I forgot that I like are that cocking lever and safety can be reversed left or right. It has anti double load feature that will not cycle another pellet until you fire the gun and the cheek riser, LOP and butt plate are fully adjustable. At times the only thing I've considered I might have done different was get the bottle version and double my shot count. But I liked the tube look better and shot count is still great for such a small reservoir and making 24 ft lbs.

I'm honestly just surprised the airmaks guns aren't way more popular.

24ft is more than enough for a lot of applications. I dropped a 10-11 pound fox with an Umarex Komplete shooting 17gr pellets lol. Doing right around the same FPE…. The more you talk about it I’m surprised too. It sounds awesome…. I’m just sad I won’t see the look on my grandchildren’s faces when they realize the only thing they are inheriting is generational debt😂😂😭
