What'cha doing air gun related today?

Dialed in my latest auction find, a very clean and well maintained Beeman R1/HW80. These West German manufactured break barrels never cease to impress me. 50lb cocking effort and a healthy recoil, magnum springers are a rewarding blast to shoot!

Over in Montana opening the cabin for the season. Found again that the starlings and flickers have bored holes in the s.w.wall for nests. Fortunately I brought my Notos along and was able to knock off 2 starlings and 1flicker . If I get lucky maybe that and patching the wall will take care of the problem for awhile.

A coworker at inherited a Gamo Shadow Sport from a family member that passed away. He wants to use it for some rats he has been seeing in his yard. I told him to bring it in and I’ll check it out. I ran some patches and it still had the original preservatives in it. It doesn’t seem like it was ever used much. I was shocked when I shot it. It was a thoroughly acceptable plinking/small pest rifle. It was only 10m indoors, but stacked 3 pellets in the same hole. I was shocked because I’m not a springer shooter and was using a full rest. My Stoeger S3000-C isn’t capable of that yet.
I used 10.3 gr Air Arms pellets for my testing. He brought in some Gamo Red Fires he bought to use with it. Those shot a 5” group at 10m. He said to just through those away 🤣 I kept them for my stash and gave him a brand new tin of 10.3’s. I have no doubt he can take out some rats. I looked for a Shadow Sport online and they are FAR out of production.
It’s given me renewed interest in break barrels. I’m going to work on my S3000 to see if I can get any improvements. I’m also looking for a Ruger Air Hawk as my next affordable springer.

The red fires seemed to keyhole.

The older, single shot Gamos are fantastic.

I’m putting some rounds through my S3000C.
I’m using some bulk Vogel to break it in. I hope that it will eventually tighten up as it breaks in. Cheap rifle, so not too big of expectations

I also ground down a 4mm socket hex head and epoxied it into my P35 hammer spring adjustment screw. The theory is this will allow me to adjust to HS to full velocity or down to minimum.

Since I do my pesting from a fixed distance, it gives me that option very easy. I tested the rifle and full and min HS and it grouped well and dropped predictably without any windage variations. I have a PARD on this rifle also, so I have the option of changing reticle that is zeroed to each speed.

That groove looks perfect for an O-ring 🙂.

Had a shooting session with my brother. It's been a month or more due to schedules, health, and weather. Exercised the Pinty, 880, and Legacy 1000 Anniversary Edition, along with his Gamo Swarm Maxxim and Crosman M1 Full-Auto. Chickened out of 177 spring challenge with the 880, but did 22 with the pinty, and he did with his Gamo (late but... 🤷). Cans flew, slynger silhouettes flew, a bottle cap flew (inner then outer cap), pellets flew, bbs flew, and time flew. Lost my chicken silhouette, but gained plenty of memories. 😎

I had an idea of tuning my BullShark down to 12fpe with 8.4 gr pellets. I tried turning the Huma reg down and started eight min HS. It got me 14 fpe. That was 90 bar on the reg. I think I can go down to 80 with the reg, I’ll try that tomorrow.

Friday I addressed my CZ200 Hunter bolt issue. It was simple, the nut that holds the bolt in place was loose. It just requires a little blue loctite. I mounted a discovery 6x to it. I need to order some rings, until then it will be fine with one. It’s a light scope and the rifle doesn’t get banged around. I feel this scope complements the rifle very well. I also replaced the plastic trigger blade with a metal Rowan trigger. Next week I’m going to 3d print some butt extensions for this rifle. I thoroughly enjoy shooting these rifles.

I discovered I have a rifle I am comfortable shooting CPHP’s with! I tried them today from my typical pest shooting location. I put all of them inside a 1/4 in dot at 18 yards. I can trust them to head shot a squirrel and that’s all I need. They shot the same group size as FX 8.4 gr. They do take a little more oomph to load then JSB’s, but it’s actually a good thing. I’m using the magazine system, so it’s very clear if I’m loading one or cycling and empty.
Happy days. The rifle is my unregulated CZ200 Hunter.

Some more correcting on Pinty sight, after indoor break for it. If the sun is on it for more than a few minutes my POI starts dropping fast 😞. Will probably replace it with a more robust and reliable scope in the future. But... followed that up with some Papa practice at five and dime at 25 yards since I haven't printed the targets yet. 3 sets of 5 on top 3 bulls on far right of page. Capped it all with shooting 5 spent co2 carts, just to see. Cap almost went out in place of the Pinty for some practice, but it has leaked down to 3k and needed a pump first.

I intended to sneak out while my son takes a nap and my wife works out to shoot the dime challenge but the wind is crazy. 14mph SE and gusts in the upper 20’s, but the gusts come more from the west. The struggles of living near the ocean.

It was a struggles spray painting my steel spinning target.

All I have with me are 177’s. I did practice with my CZ200 Hunter in the wind so I’m comfortable if a pest shows up.

Would living near the Tennessee river in N.Bama count? All it's done here in the last few weeks is storm, rain, and wind is constantly gusting 15 to 30mph for the last month. Can't shoot or go fish.
