Hello all, glad to be a new forum member.
I had a Benjamin pump as a kid unfortunately I sold it a long time ago. Now I’m 60 years young and now it’s my number favorite hobby.
Got back into air guns about 10 years ago when we had a rat problem at my parents house. Started out with a Gamo break barrel, which I found unacceptably inaccurate tried a Ruger Blackhawk. Still no satisfaction.
I then made the leap into PCP with a Crosman disco. Which I liked, but still it wasn’t accurate enough as I was trying to shoot rats at 30 yards. I made the jump to a marauder soon after that in 25 caliber.
I would bait the rats at night and shoot them with a Sony camcorder in night vision mode attached to the end of the rifle scope. This set up could hit a quarter at 33 yards in complete darkness with a good IR torch.
Fast-forward and I discovered the Bayou air gun club in 2018. We have a variety of competitions weekly. On weekends, we have field target and bench rest competitions every Saturday.
For a retired people there’s also a Wednesday morning 6 fpe competition using a variety of untraditional events.
For example, silhouette shooting 10 m rifles with targets at 40 yards with a scope. Shooting at what we call fly paper, 50 flies to a target at 25 yards. I have been using an FWB C 60 CO2 powered rifle for that but today I received my Crossman 2021 Challenger, which appears to be up to the task.
My collection expanded to a FX impact in 22 caliber. I won my first BR competition with that. I have purchased a .177 and a .25 barrels.
For our field target events, I have been using my Daystate Huntsman regal xl regulated with a hawke 4-24x sidewinder.
My current project is to improve my benchrest rifle within budget with a Weaver T-36. I currently have an Athlon FFP 8-34x.
I’m also looking for advice on improving the accuracy of the . 177 impact barrel from FX. I just watched a video on barrel polishing and air guns. I have JB polish and flitz on the way!
I also just read that the Challenger 2021 takes a marauder shroud and I might try that by borrowing it from my marauder. He’s unfortunately been side lined since it doesn’t have the shot string necessary for our competitions.
