.22 How many pellets?

I try and do this. I pick a day without wind and shoot from the bench at 25 yards.
Patch the barrel when changing pellets with different lead. For example all the JSB and rebrands get shot without a patch before changing model.
Shoot 20-30 pellets. Shoot 3 groups of 5 to evaluate. Move on.

For new pellet testing, I like 10 shot (or more) groups with my .177 springers and 6+ shot groups for my .22s pcps. Off a bench, at the guns zero distance or closer, with minimal wind. I shoot the pellets as is (no cleaning gun/pellets in between) but will note were the first couple go, through scope. If the pellets are crud I will retry again a different day and if they fail again try closer distances. If they fail that they go away to try in a different gun or collect dust. AA pellets are premo, Jsb (minus Mrds) have been crazy consistent for me. Got 3 different tins of the JTS pellets and an H&N sampler pack to try in .22 soon! Gonna be doing an 18gr battle with the S510 at some point🥳

When testing different pellets in an airgun, how many do you fire to determine whether or not a particular pellet is good/bad for that particular gun?
I have spent more time picking out pellets, than I have picking out wives. And I’m on my third wife.
Back in the day our pellet selection was limited now you can go absolutely crazy trying to figure out what’s best for what situation and what airgun at what distance …and on and on. But that’s what makes this sport such a, great one. So much fun to try and find out what works best. And the funny thing is you can be sitting at the bench shoot with somebody and they are using the same pellet as you are in the same air gun and they can’t hit a bull in the butt with a frying pan at 10 yards .
Lots of great advice here for many experience shooters, eventually you’ll have to sort through it yourself. Pussy info here. May save you a lot of time.

i try to take five shot by then i know if i dont have a group i am done.
having said that if when i buy pellets, they dont say JSB i just walk away.
why because they work they work in every gun i have ever put them in. now you might go though this or that and find somethig a tad better but you could most likey for pellets and be better off.

Having shot a pair of FWB124D's for 40+ years the lesson they taught me is this, season your barrel. Yes, with pcp's it usually isn't as important, usually, sometimes it is. Before you write off any particular pellet, run a patch through your barrel, fire off a good 20 to 30 pellets, then see how they group. Shoot between 20 to 50 yards, no closer, no further, unless inside. The next thing you should do is wait a day, take your gun out and shoot a cold bore first group for accuracy and see how they do. If they shoot as well, winner winner chicken dinner! The one thing that really bothers me about my springers is that I always have to shoot a few shots off to get them to shooting to their potential. People don't talk about this much anymore but the problem exists with some springers. PCP's don't have this problem so much, if at all, but seasoning the barrel for the pellet matters if you never shot that pellet before. You don't know until you do.
