𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 Tuning: ❓ How do you decide how much power to tune your gun for?

𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 Tuning:
❓ How do you decide how much power to tune your gun for?

⭓What criteria do you use?

⭓How do you arrive at those criteria?

You're welcome to share the particular
▪︎power setting and the
▪︎criteria you used for your tuning decision.

➠ I'm trying to learn how to make wiser decisions when tuning the power of my guns —
that go beyond the attractive and popular criteria like:
▪︎ "Bigger is better! — More power is better!"
▪︎ "Overkill is overrated!"
▪︎ "Get all you can get!"
They sure sound macho — but not necessarily wise....

Thanks for your input! 😊

I first decide what the rifle is going to be used for. As an example, field target capped at 20fpe. I start tuning around 850 and work my way up in velocity until the accuracy falls off or I get to 19fpe.

If I am setting it up for target shooting with no power limits, I test ammos and increase the speed until the accuracy falls off.

When hunting I decide a minimum energy and select a projectile weight to match it. Then I tune for accuracy making sure I have the required fpe at distance.

For me it is all about accuracy and energy not speed.

I went the mo power routine for a few years but finally came to my senses. I have a air rifle that will take out a yoto with no problem. I don't need to have the rest of my airguns putting out a lot of power. Only thing I will kill is a yoto. All of my other shooting is target. I don't hunt yotos but if they're messing with one of my dogs I'm going to try and kill it.
