Why are airgun manufacturers still using choked barrels?

You answered my question. I'll add this; I switched over to NSA slugs within 20 days of trying FX slugs.

All you have to do, is look at the dregs laying in the plastic trays. These are hardened mold tailings, and get stuck to the slugs. And upon firing, to the barrel as well.

IMHO which is worth just what it costs is choked barrels are for lazy slug shooters. Find out the groove diameter and size your slugs.0005-.001 larger. The slugs you buy are going to vary in diameter due to manufacturing tolerances and die wear just like pellets. Sizing them to work in your barrel is the only way to make sure they fit. The.001-.0005 value is from Rochcreek on AGN who has been casting slugs for both PB and airguns very long time.

Are 250 yard shots necessary on a grackle though? I'd rather take the 100 yard shot (IF I HAD TO) with my 18.13 with a lot more success rate.
I think distance is the new FPS when it comes to marketing, sadly. Airguns shine at 10-120yd. That's where I prefer to keep it. But to each their own.

Oh boy! Non lead slugs and pellets are a topic unto themselves. Perhaps a new thread should be started to cover the subject. The fact that lead is being forced out of existence by zealots, is the main reason I have a 5 year supply on hand. Maybe by the time I run out, they'll let us use depleted uranium? (probably not)

I would bet, that the box-store pellet rifle brands do it, to hedge their bets, on a barrel that will do ok. However, I am curious too on why the top tier companies still do it.
To hedge there bets ? 😉. Kinda to like you said not so much the barrel but to best grab on to the wide variety of pellets that slims down that way too pellet picky thing..
